DLD 06/30/09: My Worst Nightmare!

It's not even close. [via i50.photobucket.com]
Ugh. Nnamdi Asomugha, my favorite player in the NFL, is a Los Angeles Lakers fan. Worst of all, he had this to say about Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan:
I think, right now, they are at the same level. When Kobe is done, he should be considered slightly above MJ. I know that it’s against the law, pretty much, to say that anything is above Jordan. But let’s be honest, we’re all watching the same games. Kobe has now equaled Jordan on less talented teams.
C'mon, dude! I love you Nnamdi, but come on! Before I settle the stupid "Bryant-Jordan" debate, the latest Raiders info is on yesterday's quick hits.
Now, to settle the debate:

Kobe has a way to go yet and we can further evaluate this matter after two or three more seasons have been played. He wants to be Michael. He tries really hard. What makes me say that? This short video proves it.
Well, I'm glad I got that off my chest.
Feeling lazy, we'll skip the quick-hitting links for today. There's nothing really out there, anyway.

San Antonio Spurs baby!!!!
This is going to be a great year for the Spurs. Kidd is leaving the Mavs; Yao, MacGrady, and Artest might all be leaving the Rockets for this year (Yao might be injured all season), the Hornets are kinda just above average, and the Grizzlies are the Grizzlies. The Southwest division belongs to San Antone once more. I say Spurs vs. Lakers Western Conference finals. Spurs lose in hard-fought 7-game series.
Of course I’m saying all this before FA. Who knows how good the Spurs will get in FA. Muhahaha!!!

Kings Baby
They were so exciting to watch back in 2002 with Vlade, C-Webb, Bibby, all the European players. Man, we were good. But we hit a stage where we needed to rebuild and we lost our touch. We’ll be back.

It’s been lately that a lot of the DLD’s are getting off-topic.

Well, a DLD post doesn’t necessarily have to be on-topic. They’re actually never on-topic anywhere.

Well then maybe they shouldn't be on a Raiders blog?
Some of them are alright, but then twice in a row you admittedly were only posted them half heartedly. Personally, and it’s just my opinion, if it wasn’t gonna be Raider heavy, I’d like to see more NFL-centric. At least keep them close to the spirit of the topic. If not the Raiders, then the NFL.

I’ve posted things about Chad Johnson’s wanting to fight Mike Golic and even Shawne Merriman being upset at lists that have him as the 12th-best linebacker in the league.
Every DLD also has a “quick-hitting links” portion if there’s anything to discuss and up until recently, I’ve done that. If there’s any links to post, they’ll be on there and I don’t post them, there isn’t anything.

Oaklnd Raiders first-round draft pick, wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, said the hamstring that he injured during off-season workouts is at about "80" percent strength. He expects to be at 100 percent by the start of training camp. Heyward-Bey said he went through a lot of off-season drills despite not being at full strength to show coaches and teammates he could play through pain.
Just to reiterate the last line:
Heyward-Bey said he went through a lot of off-season drills despite not being at full strength to show coaches and teammates he could play through pain.
That shouldn’t be happening in my opinion unless there’s no way the injury can get worse, in which I don’t know if it can or cannot.
Other NFL news is also on that blog link.

He shouldn't be doing it
but I think it might be good for him to go out there and try to prove himself a little, especially after he was picked much higher than anyone slotted him to be picked. its good because it shows he cares.

NBA fans, here is an interesting video that isn’t long. It was originally posted by i love sports101 over here on this FanShot.
Brandon Jennings disses the Knicks, Ricky Rubio and Chris Duhon in an “interview” with rapper Joe Budden.
"Fuck the Knicks," Jennings says.
"Them niggas are always gonna be fuckin’ weak," he continues.
He also referred to his head coach Scott Skiles as "nigga" twice after Joe Budden had some harsh words for Skiles.
Brandon Jennings, the highly-touted point guard, was drafted 10th overall in the 2009 draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.

plenty of nfl players have already started talking shit publicly. perhaps just not as vulgar as that point guard. but what about Shawn Merrimen talking about breaking Chad Johnson’s neck??

P.S How do you change the words around and make it still be a link ?

It’s a tad complicated, but I’ll try to explain.
The words you want to be a part of the link, you put quotations around. If I wanted the word “here” to be involved, I’d put “here” just like you see it. Then, I’d put a colon at the end of the second quotation. After that colon, copy and paste the link. This should be your final product without it being an actual link.
“link title”:
After the quotation, just put the URL and you will be able to click it.

Totally agree with you, Rated R
I was in Chicago for their Championship seasons. Regrettably, I only got to see Jordan play live once, before you practically had to rob someone to get tickets to the games, but I did get to see him go against Isiah Thomas. After watching the Bulls do their thing and then eventually moving to outside Sacramento, there wasn’t any point in rooting for any other NBA team. I’ve already seen the best basketball I’ll ever see.

Side Note
I just bought Lindy’s College Football preview, and they name McFadden to their all-decade NCAA team along with Adrian Peterson at the running back spots.
I was somewhat surprised to see them pick Jeff Tebow as their first team quarterback for the decade.

Sorry, Tim Tebow
But could they really think he’s better than Leinert, Young, etc?
by rightnasty on Jul 1, 2009 12:22 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
College-wise, yeah, I think he’s better. He has a decent shot at another title this year since he’s coming back. He’ll never amount to a good quarterback at the professional level, but he may have a career in the NFL at another position.

I dont understand
why can’t tebow ever become a decent QB?? I’m sure most of everyone here has heard ESPN say this but I’ve never heard a decent reason to justify it. Besides,it can’t be that hard for Tebow to outperform leinart and young. those 2 are busts, once they got replaced in their respective starting spots, the team began to outperform even it’s own expectations.

Tebow doesn’t have good arm strength. He doesn’t fit your mold of an NFL quarterback. He doesn’t have that kind of swagger. He plays in a spread offense and it’s tough to judge quarterbacks that play in that kind of system. Their numbers are inflated.

Funny about Florida QBs
http://www.alligatorarmy.com/2008/6/9/548552/the-saga-of-chris-leak
And then, of course, the rise and fall of Rex Grossman.
by rightnasty on Jul 1, 2009 11:53 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
while all those seem to be decent points (except for the swagger, seriously!)
I don’t see how any of those would be crippling. I can’t tell you for sure, but there must be Several QBs in the NFL that came from that spread offense…
I feel arm strength is an overpriced commodity. accuracy is more important..
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!

I mean
Talking about this year’s QBs alone, you could easily make the argument that either Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford are at least as good as him, if not better. Especially after the year Bradford just had. Yeah, Tebow is a damn good QB, but best of the decade?
by rightnasty on Jul 1, 2009 8:54 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
If Tebow wins another national title, he very well could be the best college quarterback of the decade and I think he will be dubbed as such.

While we’re on the topic of college quarterbacks, I’d just like to say that be on the lookout for Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead. That dude could really turn heads this year and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s taken before both Bradford and McCoy in the 2010 draft.
