DLD 07/03/09: Your Winner and the New...

Slade Norris is on top of the world! [via assets.espn.go.com]
Ha, the title is somewhat of a Howard Finkle reference. "Your winner and the new __________ Champion, _________!" Anyway, I'd like to say congratulations to rookie linebacker Slade Norris. Why? Raider Beat has the story on Thursday's quick hits.
Raiders rookie linebacker Slade Norris emerged from a group of more than 250 players at the NFL’s Rookie Symposium in Palm Beach Garden, Fla., as the winner of the Ultimate Rookie Challenge.
Norris beat out his fellow drafted rookies by answering a series of questions over the course of the four-day event designed to help new players acclimate to the life of an NFL player.
The questions were derived from symposium presentations and basic NFL trivia. The players hey voted with electronic keypads and answered questions as individuals throughout.
From there, their scores were compiled both as a team and as individuals. The New England Patriots rookies won the team competition. For his part, Norris walked away with a flat-screen TV.

Here are some quick-hitting links:
- Talent evaluators around the league are reportedly rating free agents Amani Toomer and Joe Horn higher than Marvin Harrison.
- Washington Redskins general manager Vinny Cerrato emphasized that it's "yet to be determined" if Jason Campbell can be a franchise quarterback.
- A Virgin Islands jury has awarded Jason Taylor and two partners $1.5 million in a botched sale of a private island.

I have seen that
Many times and hopefully many more next year.
Amazing, Jamarcus Russell hands off to McFadden who pitches it back to Russell who finds Darrius Heyward Bey in the Middle of the Field wide open 30, 20,10,5 Touchdown Raiders! Amazing. This telecast is Brought to you by Cable.
Gee, Brett Favre really is coming back, no?
Brett Favre is reportedly close to purchasing a condominium in the Minneapolis area. It’s not a done deal, but Favre is believed to be “settling” on the condo in Edina.
The latest educated guess is that the Favre signing is being announced during the week of July 13-17, after the wedding of Brad Childress’ daughter and before single-game tickets go on sale July 20.

Commissioner Michael Huyghue says the UFL will give Michael Vick a chance to play as long as his legal issues are behind him.
Vick’s rights belong to the Orlando franchise. If NFL Commissioner Goodell upholds his indefinite suspension for another year, Vick could opt to play his way into football shape in the new league.

Well that's good.
He does have some talent even if he’s scum. Hopefully he can his head on straight.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
eh, the guy did his time
he paid his debt to society. let’s be honest, no one else does as much as 2 yrs for dogfighting.
Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!!
Beat writer Matt Maiocco doesn’t expect the 49ers offense to have any serious issues with the transition from Mike Martz’s system to Jimmy Raye’s.
Raye, whose “meat and potatoes” system uses digit terminology similar to Martz’s complex scheme, has already successfully installed his new offense. Maiocco notes that Shaun Hill and Alex Smith both looked better than he’s ever seen them on the practice field.

Packers linebacker Nick Barnett (ACL surgery) says he is 90 percent and expects to be limited at the start of training camp.
Barnett is making a quick recovery from the surgery and seems like he’ll be ready for Week 1. Barnett also said that Brett Favre was a “huge distraction” last year and the situation hurt the team.

Hey, we have a little Raiders news here.
Coach Tom Cable singled out fourth-round wide receiver Louis Murphy as the surprise of the Raiders rookie class.
“He has all the makings to be a very special football player at this level,” said Cable. “We really think we found one.” Don’t expect much out of Murphy as a rookie, but the burner has a chance to climb a flimsy Raiders depth chart in the future.
“Flimsy” means, I guess, no one with a proven track record aside from Javon Walker. Walker shouldn’t be getting any kind of a starting nod over neither Johnnie Lee Higgins nor Chaz Schilens, anyway.

I hope
He turn out to be that 7th round Top wide out like Chadz is then we would have a huge threat with Chadz, Miller, Muphy, JLH, and maybe Walker too that would be fun to see.
