DLD 07/06/09: Not Again

This is getting ridiculous. The tragedies of June are carrying into July and it's bugging me. We lost a good person on Saturday, July 4, when former NFL MVP and three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Steve McNair was found dead in an apartment in Nashville, Tennessee. His death has been ruled a homicide. The latest details are here and it's a damn shame. Read what NFL players and such are saying here. I saw Eddie George, a teammate of McNair's from 1996 to 2003, cry when talking about his former friend. This is a terrible, terrible loss. McNair was one of the three quarterbacks to pass for over 30,000 yards in his career while rushing for at least 3,500 as well. Rest in peace, Steve. You will be missed.

Mike Lombardi predicts that Pierre Garcon will “be the new Marvin Harrison in Indy.”

We suspect Lombardi is projecting Garcon to fill Marvin’s production void from last year, not emerge as a future Hall of Famer. Still, it’s more evidence that Garcon has a handle on Indianapolis’ third receiver job.

Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Marshal Yanda (ACL, MCL and PCL surgeries) will begin training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

Yanda, who sat out all of OTA season, will be a candidate for regular season physically-unable-to-perform list as well. The Ravens may only be hoping for Yanda to fill a reserve role by the middle of the year as he recovers from multiple extensive knee surgeries.

Fifth-round rookie wide receiver Johnny Knox reportedly evoked memories of Bernard Berrian during Bears OTAs.

It’s hard to like the comparison, as Knox is playing in the slot and Berrian is a pure outside receiver, but Knox’s 4.3 speed does give him deep threat upside. Knox is battling Juaquin Iglesias and Rashied Davis for playing time.

It doesn’t appear as though the Jaguars have interest in free agent linebacker Derrick Brooks.

Brooks, 36, is still looking for a job after being cut by the Buccaneers.

Jacksonville believes that 2008 draft pick Thomas Williams and rookie free agent Russell Allen will alleviate concerns about depth at linebacker.

Robert S. McNamara, the cerebral secretary of defense vilified for his role in escalating the Vietnam War, a disastrous conflict he later denounced as “terribly wrong,” died Monday. He was 93.

Known as a policymaker with a fixation for statistical analysis, McNamara was recruited to run the Pentagon by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 from the presidency of the Ford Motor Co. — where he and a group of colleagues had been known as the “whiz kids.” He stayed in the defense post for seven years, longer than anyone since the job’s creation in 1947.

He also attended the University of California in Berkeley, California.

I think it leans toward the 49ers and Giants, but that’s just my opinion.

Its pretty obvious

that the girl that was found dead alongside with McNair killed McNair. McNair had like 4 shots ( 2 to the head) and the girl had only one shot to the head. She killed McNair and then she committed suicide.

Curb Cutler??

No way. It’s exactly what the Bears need, Cutler coming out throwing. Beat teams to death on the ground with Forte and blow them away long range with Hester. If their defense gets together this season, they could be going to the Super Bowl. The Bears tradionaly have a conservative offense, but that’s because they haven’t had a really good quarterback since McMahon. And, in fact, Cutler may be the best they’ve ever had.

True true

To bad they are such big rivals (only for this reason) it would of been great to see him in black and silver, I might of peed myself alittle.
