Generally, a trade between the Patriots and Broncos for a backup defensive end would have nothing to do with Oakland Raiders news. This particular trade, however, does affect the Raiders because it finalizes the Derrick Burgess trade.
Fox Sports is reporting that the Patriots traded DE Le Kevin Smith and a 7th round draft pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Denver's 5th round draft pick.
If you'll remember, the Raiders received a 3rd round pick along with a conditional 4th round pick from the Patriots in exchange for Burgess, with the condition being that if the Patriots acquired a 5th round pick (the Patriots used their own 5th round pick in a trade for TE Alex Smith) the Raiders would receive the 5th round pick rather than the 4th round pick.
So, instead of New England's 4th round pick, the Raiders now have Denver's 5th round pick.
