Hey Raider fans, this is Fooch from Niners Nation. The annual preseason tilt between our two rival franchises is fast arriving this Saturday at Candlestick Park. This season that means two days of shared practices up in Napa. This is especially fun for me because your man Saint was a big reason I started Niners Nation. I knew him through some other stuff and he put in a good word for me with the SB Nation folks. So even though he roots for the Raiders, he's not all bad.
Once we get into the regular season, these FanPosts are more useful for breaking down the matchups for the two teams and assessing where the advantages are. However, for a preseason game, it's obviously a lot different. Each team would certainly enjoy winning, but really it's about position battles and determining our own 53-man roster.
For the 49ers, there are a lot of areas where they're hoping to find some answers early in the preseason. The highest profile is the battle for the starting quarterback, where Shaun Hill appears to have the early lead. However, there are numerous other battles 49ers fans will be keeping an eye on including the starting right tackle, a key backup offensive tackle, the left defensive end, the #2 cornerback and the plethora of wide receivers on the roster.
Feel free to fire away with any questions you might have about the 49ers, the matchup, or general thoughts on life. If I don't get back to you with an answer right away, don't worry, I will. Also, if you get a chance, Rec this so it stays up top through the week.
