Hanson Assists Police

Uh oh.  New reports are coming out that Hanson is no longer employed by the team.  Coincidentally (not), he has also decided to assist in the police investigation of the alleged assault that took place.

Star-divide

There was a lot of dispute surrounding this story, so it's hard to sort out what is really going on until all the facts come out.  First, FanHouse.com reported that the assailant was actually head coach Tom Cable.  Then ESPN's Mark Schlereth came out and defended Cable saying he had talked to him and there was no way that this had happened (an article in ProFootballTalk noted that Schlereth failed to mention that he played with Cable at Iowa).  Then Cable refused to talk about it in a press conference and looked pretty guilty (in my oppinion) and couldn't even comment on whether Hanson was still employed by the team.

Well now it looks like he is no longer employed by the team, has hired an attorney, and is assiting in the police investigation.

If this is true, should the league discipline Cable in any way?

Probably true

But an NFL head coach should be smart enough and have the self control to not punch his assistant coach, if that is actually what happened. Unless Hanson threatened his family in any way than Cable was in the wrong. And if Hanson is the tool that he seems like than Cable should expect him to go to the police before he knocked him out. That’s just the way that tools work. They push your buttons, make you react, and then tattle on you. No surprise here.

Seasons over.....

hate to say it but this is going to end ugly. Goodell + Police + Hanson = Cable suspension + possible FELONY charges filed + Raiders suffuer through yet another shitty season, lost before it begins.

Im sorry man, but......

The Worst 6 Year Stretch in NFL history followed by…….

A coach assaulting another coach, (whether he punched him, or pushed him out his chair, or whatever, doesn’t matter does it?) that 2nd coach ending up in the hospital with broken bones in the face, and possible felony charges.

What exactly would you like me to be positive about?

Our team.

I work construction. I see this shit all the time. Alpha males fighting over who has the bigger dick. The cop are never involved. Hanson looses and proves himself to be a total douche. Check out his team picture.

Its not the incident itself....

but the growing controversy, possible police investigation, and huge distraction on the team.

And now Hanson ups the ante.

According to the report, Hanson was attacked by head coach Tom Cable, knocked to the floor, choked and has his life threatened before other coaches pulled him off.

Where are you getting that? It’s simple assault.

I have read

in most articles that broken bones changes it from assault to felony assault. I’m no lawyer though. If true that really sucks.

by sabp on Aug 20, 2009 5:31 PM PDT up reply actions

I digress...

Actually it’s assault and battery. Assault is throwing the chair/punch, battery is connecting with the chair/punch. Don’t know if broken bones changes things though. I think that is up to the DA in most places. But I don’t see how this qualifies as a felony as there was no premeditation on Cable’s part. Any lawyers out there in Raiderland?

Broken bones = felony

confirmed on Chronicle Live by lawyer.

Shows that Davs is 100% behind Cable.

Al Davis needs Hanson to testify against Kiffin in his lawsuit and we all know how much Al loves payback and holds a grudge. Hanson must have really stepped in it with Al to get the can. Wonder what he said to Marshall. Al can still subpoena him but Hanson won’t be friendly about it.

Of all people backing head coach Tom Cable, Bill Romanowski says he has Cable’s back when he spoke to the media today at the joint practice.

"It was unfortunate for me what happened," Romanowski said. "I have no idea about what the coach did or didn’t do. Nobody does. All’s I know is I just talked to him for 10 minutes — I like his ass. I’m gonna tell you that straight up. He’s a straight shooter and I said, ‘Hey, if you need anybody to help you out, I got your back.’"

Issue is settled then

If Romo is backing Cable, then clearly Cable is guilty.

Romanowski isn’t exactly the first guy I want speaking out for me, but if he wants to throw a punch, it’s a different story.

good call doc

Romo is a thug and once again the Raider shot themselves in the foot with unprofessional behavior. If the Head Coach can’t act like an adult how can he ask the players to do so.

by sirbed on Aug 20, 2009 7:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Serious answer

If Cable did indeed assault Hanson, either with his fist or another object, then he should be fired ASAP. A member of management should never be allowed to physically assault an employee. Period. I could not care less what Hanson may or may not have done to spark the incident; it is absolutely intolerable that someone should be subjected to physical violence in their place of employment.

Oh yeah, and I don’t want to hear the usual BS like “this is football, man-up, Nancy, if you can’t take the heat…”. The physical part of football is supposed to be on the field of play, not in the coaches’ offices. The fact that this is happening with the Raiders just goes to show how low this once-proud franchise has sunk. “Pride and Poise”? A coach with pride and poise does not either slug or throw a chair at an assistant coach. Instead of “Commitment to Excellence”, we now hire whoever will allow Al to call the shots, regardless if they have any character or ability.

He said he said.

I’ve resisted commenting much on this because it’s such a distraction from football but my guess is Cable avoids legal trouble (if it goes to court, Marshall backs Cable) and ends up with a slap on the writst from the NFL. A fine and/or a one game suspension. And I agree, Romo is no great character witness but even he was only suspended one game for shattering a teamates eye socket.

This team is completely out of control

This organization is devoid of leadership and responsibility, and it translates on the field. The annual league leader in penalties doesn’t happen by accident.
It continues to b.s. us with lackey head coaches who have turned out to be embarassments.
It is past time for Al Davis to step down from any football related decisions, and bring in real football minds with a strong G.M. and a capable head coach with actual authority who can control himself and the players.

by S Jay Bruin on Aug 20, 2009 4:32 PM PDT reply actions

The only way Al steps down is by going 6 feet in the ground

and while I’ll never root for that I have very little hope of the team turning things around at this point. That being said what Cable has done has nothing to do with bad football it has to do with breaking the law and if he’s guilty of this then he should be fired.

if your going to do that

you might as well fire anyone in the NFL thats ever gotten in a fight before…

No there's a difference between a couple of players getting in a scrum and

the Head Coach assualting someone. If the reports are to be believed Hanson has gotten a lawyer and this thing could ugly fast and frankly if Cable did this he has no one to blame but himself.

I have to agree with the negative people on here

Cable’s imminent suspension will cause him to lose credibility with the team, even if it’s only for a couple games.

If it’s just a fine (there’s a good one) then my worries are unnecessary.

But here’s something, Belicheck cheats to win games. He gets fined and loses a draft pick. Cable merely punches someone, which doesn’t have a direct effect on the league. But how much you wanna bet Cable gets more, for something that doesn’t directly affect the league in any way other than a little controversy, than what Belicheck got for something that directly affects a game, possibly even games, and possibly even Super Bowl wins?

I’m willing to bet a pretty penny on that.

I have to disagree.

Hanson was a punk and from what I read he spent most of his time in the office and not around the players. I don’t think Cable risks losing any credability with the team at all. Quite the opposite. i.e: Fargas starting the ‘Bumaye’ chant on Monday. While it’s a distraction now, soon it will be nothing more than a footnote and a inside joke.

You know that scene in Dark Knight

When Bruce Wayne’s employee is telling Morgan Freeman/ Luscius Fox that he know’s Bruce is Batman and he wants money to keep quiet, and Luscius replies "Let me get this straight. You think that your employer, one of the richest men in the world, is spending his nights running around the city beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands? And your plan is to blackmail him? Good luck."

That is kinda what I feel like telling Hanson about suing Al Davis.

I put this comment in another post, but since the post was essentially the same I felt compelled to comment the same.
