Raiders Claim DT Joe Cohen, Waive CB Jason Horton
Raider fans, your prayers have been answered.....sort of: The Raiders have acquired a new defensive tackle.
The Oakland Raiders Transactions page indicates that the Raiders have claimed defensive tackle Joe Cohen off waivers and waived/injured CB Jason Horton.
Cohen was a 4th round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2007, spent 2007 and the 2008 preseason with the Niners before being released and signed by the Miami Dolphins. Cohen played sparingly with the Dolphins, and was released yesterday.
It is unclear what Cohen's role will be for the last two weeks of the preseason. Does he have a chance to overtake Terdell Sands for the backup nose tackle job, or is he simply a camp body to keep starters fresh and healthy through these last two weeks? It will be interesting to see what Coach Cable has to say about the acquisition tomorrow.

Put that sarcasm away please!
This kid was a 5th round pick out of Florida after they won their BCS title in 2006. Injured his knee that first year, and it was supposedly a grizzly injury too. The Dolphins then signed him to the practice squad after the 9ers gave up on him in early 2008.
He has the size and the ability, highly touted out of college as run stopper, if his knee is healthy. It generally takes guys two years too get back to form after a major knee surgery, so maybe the time is right for the Raiders to get lucky and find a gem. Lord knows if this kid was gonna stick anywhere, it would be with the Raiders. If he cant stick on the worst run D in the league, then he may as well hang um up.
We will see.

Let’s See if he can show us something. He’s got size and is young. You’re right OakFoSho, it’s been long enough for his knee to get back to how it was before. Parcells took a chance on him even it was just the practice squad. Maybe he can contribute, if not push the starters to be better to stay on the field.

I say give him the roster spot, it’s not like he could be any worse than Sands.
Just HIT somebody.

The starters can't be pushed
Just replaced!!!!… At this point we are so horrendous up front I would say bench Sands just to send a message and let Cohen play. The problem is Sands thinks his starting spot is secure so he just goes out and gets manhandled. Whatever they decide, I’m hunkering down for yet another LOOOONNNG SEASON!
Note: I am new to SB pride but not to the Raider Nation! I was born into the Nation many years ago. I try to tell my friends “There are no such things as Raider Fans… You’re either a resident of the Raider Nation or you’re not!”
