Game Thread: New Orleans By The Bay
In what promises to be a VERY hot game, it is already 100 degrees in Pinole, J-Russ and his Merry Men (Fargas, Bush, Mc-Bad-Ass, DHB, J-Von, Murphy and Miller) will be on full display.
This is the game to open up the offense and see what the defense has, in the way of stopping the run and a quick play timing offense.

Raiders Bumaye!
Also Harris was released for O’Neill to be resigned and he will play today.
Just HIT somebody.
Good luck to you boys
I have a friend of mine who’s a die-hard fan. She keeps saying Raiders won’t see the light as long as Al Davis runs the show.
An Oakland-Nollins’ thread open by saint? Priceless….
Just get the D going!
This is not good so far. To say the least.
The pass defense is supposed to be our great strength. WTF.
let's see how are offense responds
russel has to get used to these situations if he wants to be a great QB
I hated Brees in San Diego
And I hate him more, at least right now. That was like a Madden drive. Jesus! They pretty much just did what they want without worrying.
From what I understand
And I’m listening to it on the radio, so I don’t know for sure, it wasn’t that he was lacking pocket awareness, it’s that he never saw it coming and got hit because he held it too long
Crap
At least we blitzed! Since it’s still just pre-season, I’ll keep concentrating on the positives. Until I get fed up, I guess :-)
crap
Adopted Giant Darren "Speedy" Ford. Said by Andrew Baggarly to be the fastest minor league player and the best defensive outfielder in the Giants Organization. Now playing for your San Jose Giants.
I'll say what I've been thinking for a long time now...
….Hiram Eugene blows.
And Huff is his backup. Oh dear.
Stay Confident
Let’s see how we can get out of this. We just gotta learn from this.

Damn right!
If this game turns into another epic fail, we’ll learn some lessons and I’d rather it happen in the pre-season than the regular season.
Is there any way I can get live play by play on my iPhone?!

What a shock a penalty called on Green
Bleargh. I know it was an incomplete pass, but what if that had been completed for a big gain? It’s coming back because of him.
Brees is really really good
But he’s not Superman. The Saints didn’t even make the playoffs last year, remember!
the saints didn't make the playoffs because of their crappy defense
Brees was amazing last season. Over 5,000 yards.

Brees isn’t Superman, but only Brady and Manning are better than he is at his position.
The Saints had the number one offense in the entire league last season.

I just do not understand it
I know Kirk is out, but with Nnamdi, CJ, and Howard in it should be better than this.
The lack of safety help is just disgusting. Branch, Eugene and Huff should be ashamed right now.
Maddening.
We’re only rushing 4 people, so Brees is having all day to sit back and scan the field. He will murder you with that every single time.
And Bush and Thomas aren't even in
It’s some scrub running back….who’s gaining a lot of yards
And with him in, you have to know they’re gonna concentrate on the pass even more than they usually do……and they still can’t even stop him!
Pathetic
Our safeties especially are being systematically destroyed by the Saints.
I can’t even think how many times I"ve heard Papa announce a catch on Tyvon Branch today.
Kirk being in wouldn't make much of a difference
But I’ll say that this pretty clearly shows that Alston and Brown aren’t fit to take his position over yet.
If I hear any excuses from coaches or players...
….other than “We played like shit and got our asses kicked” my head will explode
Aaggghhh
And here’s the thing, J-Russ is playing REALLY well. WIth the exception of holding the ball too long on that fumble, he’s been crisp, accurate, hasn’t forced anything. Everyone else is just f-ing him bigtime.
There's some really good DTs in next year's draft
Ndamukong Suh out of Nebraska, Terrence Cody from Alabama and Gerald McCoy from Oklahoma.
Tayor Mays from USC would be a big upgrade to our currently disastrous safety position.
someone from alabama(a coach or commentator)
said terrence cody is perfect for the pats because of his love of the game and personality. but i hope the raiders get him instead.
Nothing at all against DHB...
…I think he’ll be a good player in the league, but I have to think of the push B.J. Raji would be getting right now.
I Rather Have Bress In
He is a better QB and we can learn more from his presence in the game.
R.I.P - Michael Jackson
I’ve refused to blame Al over the last six years because everything he is, is raider, but I don’t know who else to blame anymore.

Just HIT somebody.
On that second negated touchdown...
…it’s worth noting that the receiver was WIDE OPEN and uncovered in the end zone. Sigh.
I'm not sure how we plan to win
With no defense.
Just another 4-12 season.

I was pretty stoked about our chances...
….against SD on Monday Night, but…….I think we’re headed for our, what, third Monday Night opener humiliation in 4 years?
You were stoked about our chances?
Why?
41-7.
No reason to watch.
"Chicks dig the long ball, although fat chicks will settle for warning track power" - Nick Diamond
Because the training camp has been really positive so far...
…and the only real deficiency has been the run defense, but I’m pretty much used to that by now.
And don’t watch. But then don’t call yourself a Raider fan. Joke.
It's training camp
Every year our training camp and preseason are “positive”.
Then we get killed in the opener and go on to lose 12 games. I’ve seen this movie before.
We still have no defense, we still get penalized too much, I’m not seeing why I should be any more positive this year than others. I’m not sure that I have to be delusional to be a Raider fan. In fact, I’ve argued against that sentiment several times.

Little bit of redemption for Eugene
But not much…….intercepting the 38 year old backup QB after getting humiliated by the starter.
IT"S DREW BREES!
personally I DIDN"T EXPECT A GREAT NIGHT FOR THE PASSING DEFENSE! I expected that they’ll have a very tough time contain drew brees’s passing magic.
I'm tired of feeling like this

He’s probably the fifth receiver as it is. With Schilens out, he’s probably fourth. He still won’t get more looks than Miller or McFadden. That basically means he’s the sixth target at best.

that's what a qb is supposed to do.
throw the ball to the receiver who can make a big play. if your definition of a great qb is throwing deep throws or throws where a receiver is WIDE open, your partly right. a great qb throws it where his receiver can catch it. he’s been making successful throws whether you like it or not. even tom brady who i KNOW i know more about than you, would make the same mistakes russel was doing today, but he makes successful completions to his WR’s which is what a qb is supposed to do.

Not a real hard hit, Brady just landed bad. Right on his shoulder. He stayed in the game for the next poss. I think so he must not have tought it was that bad.
I thought the most interesting things were the words he chose.
"I mean, it wasn’t like I was hitting Gisele or something; he’s the quarterback."

i think
he was trying to say that everyone shouldn’t take the hit too seriously. he did what he was supposed to do.
brady is fine from what i've heard. nothing major.
but i guess it’s cool to have a money driven DT liking the patriots. i don’t think he knows that brady sacrificed money to get randy moss and keep a few players on the team. all about football, not money.
David White reported about the game, but he had an interesting comment leading into it.
With another TV blackout, and for those who live outside the Bay Area, I’ll be giving Twitter coverage from today’s Saints-Raiders exhibition game.
It wasn’t blacked out for me.

So cold
Drew Brees(notes) and the New Orleans Saints offense looked to be in midseason form. Unfortunately for the fans in Oakland, the Raiders appear to be as well.
