Spotlight Matchup of the Week: Chris Morris vs. Jamal Williams
My apologies, unforeseen familial obligations prohibit me from posting a more in depth analysis of the matchup between Raiders center Chris Morris and Chargers nose tackle Jamal Williams. This post is to serve as an open thread for all of you to discuss how this matchup may affect Monday night's game.

I don't have much faith in Morris...sadly
I still can’t shake the feeling that Morris is nothing but a solid backup. Although, I don;t think Williams is going to be the force he once was. He’s been in the league for what? 12 years?
Morris winning out and holding the point of attack is vital to our run game. If we can keep running and keep converting then we have a chance to win. We have 4 competent, talented, and versatile backs on the roster that can provide a great rotation.
This is a vital match up, more so than our Run-D verses their Run-O. If we can run on them as much as they will run on us we have a chance; and if it comes down to Pass-D we have the advantage. It all hinges on Morris stepping up, and the rest of our O-line being bruisers out there on the run.

Not necessarily...
….Satele has looked terrible in preseason and apparently hasn’t impressed in practice either.

No apologies needed!
Unless you are Richard Seymour.
I don’t have much hope for Morris handling Williams by himself- I imagine he is going to need help. Williams is a stud and should be feeling pretty good since it is the first game. I expect this match-up will be a little different the next time these two teams play.
If he can block him 1-on-1 then things are looking great for the Raiders. I also hope Fargas is ready to go, because I think they are going to need him to help pick up the blitzing LB’s.

Well throw them all in there...
I gotta feeling they are going to need all the blocking they can get!

Mario and Cornell's Fate:
Mario and Cornell will be playing on islands unless Chris Morris, whom I liked as well as or better than Jake Grove, can show that he can dominate the CENTER of the field.
He has the size to dominate in space, and as long as he dominates his space on EVERY play on Monday, he will be fine.
He can even get beat on plays on long as he doesn’t get his doors blown off.
Another point about Chris Morris is that he EARNED this spot.
He needs to go out there and NEVER look over his shoulder again. It is Opening Night, On MONDAY NIGHT, and he is the Starting Center. That is all that matters…Well that and controlling his space… ;)
But when they start scheming us the way these guys did, and we weren't particularly ready for it, anything can happen."
