Cable Says He Talked to Richard Seymour; Seymour Wants to be in Oakland:

Cable: Real quickly about the Richard Seymour issue. We have attempted to make a deal. There are some issues still between him and the Patriots that are being worked out. Hoping that will be resolved as quickly as possible. We know that the player wants to be here, but we have no control really over those issues. That’s really all I’m going to talk about it for now.

Q: Can you tell us how you know he wants to be here? Have you spoken with him?

Cable: I have talked to him.

Q: So he said he wants to be here?

Cable: Yes.

Q: Is there a day you have to have him by to play in the opener?

Cable: As soon as possible. That’s really the only way to answer that right now.

would anyone back up this trade hypothetically?

a second rounder next year for Glenn dorsey i know he is in our division but he is not suited to play the 3-4 end

yeah

would go for it if we didn’t already make the trade

I'll remain optimistic that whatever happens will be our best possible outcome

I still believe Seymour will be a great addition, and at the very least shore up a glaring inability to stop the run in a run heavy division.

But, should it fall through, I’ll hope we dodged a bullet; no one knows right now.

Fact is, we desperately need d linemen who are proven stopping the run, and who lift the ability of their teammates. Seymour is both.

True, a first round pick is a steep price to pay, but realistically, if the Raiders have a top ten pick again, they won’t be able to pay them top pick money, with all the high picks and big money we’re already paying, especially if only half the guys work out for us.

Looking forward to seeing Seymour in a Raider uniform; if indeed he is being lame, and thinking he’s impermeable against the NFL’s not-for-long policy of turnover, then I’m glad he’s not showing up. The pick will be ours again, and I’ll still think we’ll be better off trading down from it.

Yes, and sadly, I believe it will be a top ten pick, once again. I’m a fan, but I can read the writing on the wall. We’ll be lucky to win 5 or 6 again. Amazing ability to shoot ourselves in the foot.

gotta say the NFL has reached a sad level too, when players are too proud to play for any franchise. There was a day when even the greatest players would’ve been thankful to still start in the NFL, and did their best to make their teams the best they can be. Don’t get me wrong, I’d feel dissed by the Pats too, but grateful for another opportunity, and looking forward to leaving a contract extension a sure thing by playing great football.

I lack respect for Eli to this day for the very same reason

punk could not want to play for a certain team, but when you’ve never played a snap in the pros before, at least keep it quiet and out of the public eye.

It’s a privilege to play in the pros, and it is things like that which separate the hall of famers from the rest.

Yeah, but...

Eli, at the core, is a class act. The Giants are a classy organization. The Chargers are not a classy organization, and Philip Rivers doesn’t have any class at all. So that trade ended up working out for the best, because both players ended up on the teams that were best-suited for them.

he earned some respect, no doubt...

but lost a lot for that. agreed on the whole SD thing, but a lot of great players played for SD, including Raiders.

Rivers has no chance of even getting a whiff of the HOF, no matter how many times he is a stat leader. I agree with the results too. but hate that whole aspect of the game.

Thats why guys like Brady, Ben, and it appears if Jamarcus follows in the way he has…

win games and go to the next level.

Very few, will questionn that Tom F’in Brady will be HOF. Almost all will question that JR can, but he’s acted very quietly thus far, which is how big timers need to be.

I know I’m reaching here, but every team facing the Raiders knows they respect the kid’s ability to light them up…It’s all or nothing this year.

The Giant are definitely a class org. as well. And the Chargers, overall, remain questionable. But it’s not like the Raiders have actually committed to excellence in quite some time, either.

Im excited

We can stop the pass but can never stop the run no matter whos running it. Now we add Seymour. Need to give him a long term deal or the Patriots might sign him back next year and really screw us. This move could be the piece to stopping the run and getting pressure on the QB. We dont ever do anything with are first round picks any way so why not take a chance on a 5 time pro bowler.
