I want

The Jets/Vikings, because they didn’t rest their starters like weiners and fought all the way.

by RaiderFan_21 on Jan 24, 2010 9:47 AM PST reply actions

Resting Starters

It’s not being a “weiner” and they didn’t rest their starters because they had to play to get where they wanted to get.

The Jets were sitting at 4-6 or 6-7 or whatever it was. They needed every single win.

The Vikings, on the other hand, needed to play their starters because they lost to the Panthers and the Bears and wanted to secure a bye week.

The Colts were 14-0 and the Saints were 13-2 before the respective teams rested starters. It’s not called being a “weiner.” It’s actually called being in control of your destiny so early that you get all hands on deck for a run at the Super Bowl.

Strength of History

Super Bowl Appearances / Results
Minnesota has been to 4 SBs and lost every time (0 – 4)
Colts have been to 4 SBs and have won 3 times (3 – 1)
New York Jets have been to only 1 SB and won (1 – 0)
New Orleans has never ever been to a SB (0 – 0)

So, going by history, Minnesota will upset NO and advance to the SB only to lose again.
and the Colts will go through the Jets and win their 4th SB.

McClain

I’m leaning toward drafting him over an offensive tackle if Morrison isn’t coming back. I know we need to upgrade the right side of the line, but our rush defense was terrible and worse than our protection overall.

What Could Have Been

If the Colts played their starters the first time around, the Jets could have been eliminated. Plus, their 19-0 record could still be in the forecast. Instead, the Colts have to play the Jets again and now the Jets are in total control of this game.

Jets Offense

Two plays are really to thank for their 14 points. A big 80-yard pass from Sanchez to Edwards scored one and then a pass out of the wildcat set up another touchdown.

Three Big Points

That kick means a lot. That’s a potential six-point swing at the least. You have to score off of turnovers, especially against the Colts. Plus, a 48-yard field goal should help Jay Feely’s confidence after missing that 44-yard field goal earlier.

Halftime Stats

The Colts have more first downs, passing yards, rushing yards, time of possession and fewer penalties; however, they’re losing the turnover battle and that may be the reason for trailing 17-13 at halftime.

AFC Championship Game Summary

Jumping out to a 17-6 lead, the Jets had surprised a lot of people yet again. Three years removed from an 18-point comeback against the Patriots for the AFC title, Indianapolis needed another comeback. With Peyton Manning on your team, it’s possible and it happened. A late touchdown before the half had cut the deficit to four points and the team fired back with two more touchdown passes from Manning to Garcon and Clark each. Running away with it late, a field goal from Matt Stover had given the Colts a 30-17 lead and a win by that very score. Ending it on a 24-0 run, the Colts are now bound for another Super Bowl trip.

Manning was 26-for-39 with 377 yards and a trio of touchdowns. Collie (7 receptions, 123 yards) and Garcon (11 receptions, 153 yards) each caught a touchdown pass, picking up the slack for Wayne (3 receptions, 55 yards) and Clark (4 receptions, 35 yards).

Force Sanchez to throw the ball and you will win. He threw it 30 times, about 10 times too many. The Jets only averaged 3.0 yards per carry, clearly not their recipe for success. They don’t have multiple ways that they can beat you. Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts for being the best team in the AFC from start to finish.

What became obvious was the fatigue of the Jet's defensive line during the 3rd quater and
The pressure that they gave Manning in the 1st half wasn't there in the 2nd and that, IMO, was the decisive difference.

Pro Bowl

Guess who’s replacing Peyton Manning in Miami this Sunday?

David Garrard has been selected to the Pro Bowl as Peyton Manning’s replacement, according to Garrard’s agent Phil Senich.

With Rivers and Brady being replaced by Matt Schaub and Vince Young due to injuries, David Garrard is next in line. That’s completely idiotic considering how Ben Roethlisberger is better than Garrard in every way.

Garrard replaced in Pro Bowl by Me*

In a surprise move, I have been selected to replace Peyton Manning in the Pro Bowl. “We were looking for someone even more useless than David Garrard,” a Pro Bowl spokesman said. “unfortunatley Jamarcus Russell was unavailable due to a Hot Dog eating contest conflict and so we found this guy. I mean how do you replace Peyton? We know that’s impossible so instead we randomly chose someone. It is unfortunate they don’t play in the NFL although we believe the selection is no less confusing than some of the other Pro Bowl selections and fans probably won’t notice.”
The news has stunned Garrard “Man, I did nothing good all season and now I don’t even get to go to the Pro Bowl” he was quoted as saying. “I thought I was in when JRuss was signed for that Hot Dog contest. I mean, if the’re going to pick guys off the street then what hope do I have?”

*This is probably not true. Appologies to DG as well….

Ouch!

You know, when things get pretty bad, we can be thankful we’re not Bills fans! lol!

Oh, those poor Bills fans deserved at least one title.

Yes, and the Raiders were saved by Bills' money in the early years

Tough the Bills (and Vikings) are 0 – 4 in the SB. But, glad the Vikings lost last night.

Let's all send him some tissue, courtesy of Raider nation!

let us not forget, who gave him a standing o, upon delivering a sound asskicking on the eve of his father’s death. One of my proudest moments of these fans of the Raiders, especially when we had every reason to hurling random objects at the latest team to deliver us a sound whooping of ass.

Wow brhynno.....

Please stop giving me flashbacks about that game . I was soooooo mad when we lost against the packers on that day and still got a bad taste in my mouth too even after all these years….

Was that amazing or what? Our defenders were so on that game, but there was no stopping Favre...

He was completing passes in triple coverage. The standing O by the nation made me proud, and almost brought a tear to my eyes… We give respect where it is due, despite what most folks say about us as fans.
