Report: Hue Jackson heading to Raiders
While the Raiders have still not officially acknowledged that Tom Cable has been retained as the head coach, the Raiders have at least acknowledged that Cable will no longer be call the plays.
Hue Jackson has left the Ravens as QB coach to take the offensive coordinator position with the Raiders:
ESPN's Michael Smith reports that Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson has accepted a position with the Raiders to be their next offensive coordinator.
Jackson met with Al Davis last week, and likely sold the Raiders owner that he can help JaMarcus Russell improve. It's unclear at this stage whether Jackson will call plays, a role Cable had last year. The Raider say no decision has officially been made yet on Cable's future.
With that said, it appears Davis is building a staff for Cable. Jackson worked with Cable in 1990 at Cal State Fullerton and then at Cal in 1996. New defensive line coach Mike Waufle also worked on Steve Mariucci's Cal staff in '96.
UPDATE: Jackson has canceled his interview with the Bears to be their offensive coordinator.

Jackson sent the Baltimore Sun a statement confirming his decision to come to Oakland
It will be truly ironic if the Raiders now turn around and say otherwise…

ALAMEDA, Calif.—Hue Jackson says he is leaving his job as quarterbacks coach in Baltimore to take over as offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders.
Jackson told the Ravens team Web site Tuesday he will be the primary play-caller for the Raiders. The team has not made an official announcement.
Coach Tom Cable called plays last season when Oakland did not have an offensive coordinator. The Raiders have not said whether Cable will be back as head coach next season.
But they have hired two assistants with ties to Cable in Jackson and defensive line coach Mike Waufle. Jackson worked with Cable at California in 1996.
Jackson played a big role in developing Joe Flacco in Baltimore. He will be counted on to do the same with former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell in Oakland.

This guy needs to learn his place....Al Davis calls the plays!!...lol
Hopefully it was Cables hire also, or brought in with his consent, otherwise it would be like the Rob Ryan thing…nobody was with him, he was Al’s hire. But this is a good move, I believe Jackson will be a good playcaller.

Oh, yes, indeed it is. The A’s signed Ben Sheets. The Raiders hired Hue Jackson. All I need now is for the Warriors to beat the Kings and I’ll be even more stoked!

1 Yr Deal, 10 Million
They’re gonna trade him come the deadline

Maybe
If we’re in contention, he’ll stick around. If not, we can move him for hitting prospects.
Further evaluating the possibilities, if he walks after one year, Trevor Cahill comes into the rotation and he should be ready this time with him getting Triple-A experience now.

I doubt Oaklands in contention
The Angels are gonna find a way to win, they always do, and the Mariners are having one hell of a offseason

The guy sounds excited about the move

There is a link there, so I listened to the whole interview. He said some complimentary things of Al Davis as well (most probably PR), but overall he sounds really intelligent and level-headed.

"Hue really has a presence," Hasselbeck said. "He can stand up in front of the room and have the attention of all 25 guys on offense."
“CHICAGO — Former NFL QB current ESPN analyst Tim Hasselbeck knows … Hue Jackson …
Hasselbeck told ESPNChicago.com. “Eventually, people thought the best thing to do was let Hue call the plays and deal with our protection issues. One thing about Hue, he relates to players well and does an excellent job of keeping things fairly simple. Not simple to the point of remedial, but simple to the point that players understand their responsibilities.”

Well I like the hire its a good direction
He may have the attention of only 24 of our 25 guys on offense. JaCdonalds will be too busy looking at his new bling (nose ring complete with 3K pink diamond stud) of filling his Gary Coleman type cheeks with lard to want to listen.
I really need to get past this fatass bloated limp d

Hue Jackson is a hard-core Raider fan
NFL.com Wire Reports
bq. The Los Angeles native, who grew up rooting for the Rams and Raiders, said there [are] many other factors. After meeting with Raiders owner Al Davis for three days… “My decision had nothing to do with Jay [Cutler],” said Jackson… “If you look at both situations [Chicago’s & Oakland’s], obviously Jay is probably the more established quarterback [than Russell]. It is more to it, *it’s the whole team, and when I looked at the whole situation for me, again, family, being from California and the Raiders tradition.”*
But will it be a challenge to work with Russell, who was benched during the season for a parade of quarterbacks that included Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye?
“No question,” Jackson said. “This guy was the first player drafted (in 2007). It is going to be fun to see if we can get him up and playing the way we all wish that he could perform. But it’s not just about JaMarcus. … It’s the whole offensive unit that’s got to perform well around the quarterback, period.”
Jackson told the Ravens’ official Web site that he will call all of the offensive plays in Oakland. … But Jackson said he believes Cable will be in Oakland 2010.
“I can’t speak for the organization — that’s for Mr. Davis to do,” Jackson told ESPN 1000. “There is no thought in my mind that he would be (let go), but again, I can’t speak for the organization at this time.”
Jackson will be charged with firing up an Oakland offense that finished 31st in the NFL, averaging less than 300 yards per game.

He should be OC
Its the next natural progression for him before going to HC I think. If he can make the offense shine and fire the way it is capable of then he will have proved himself a real organizer and motivator.
And I am quite sure we all agree that Cable is not an offensive play caller. He is way out matched. I just hope Jackson is given a free hand to call and set up the offense the way it should be based on the talent and capabilities.

We'll see I guess
I hope things work out of course but looking at Jackson’s background I’m seeing a lot of teams that finished in the bottom 3rd of the NFL on offense so I think I’ll take a wait and see approach on this hiring.

Take a look at what he did in Cincinnati 2004-2006, he turned the course of things in Washington too
and he did alright in Baltimore.

No on Washington
in his 3 years there they never had a winning season and their offensive rankings were 28,20 and 23 so nothing great.
He had more success in Cincinnati but his year in Atlanta the Falcons struggled. I do think his time in Baltimore is the reason he got the job and again I’m hoping it works out well all I’m saying is let’s see what happens.

Washington sucked and never had playmakers... We have blooming playmakers in Murphy,
Chaz, Miller, Bush and Dmac as a RB receiver. The weapons are there, its only a matter of assembling the pieces together for this to be a dangerous offense. But in order to be successful we need to build a very solid O-line.

Why "No on Washington" sirbed?
He was RB coach years 1 and 2 there – will you condemn his achievements on the outcome of wins and stats? By your logic, Hackett isn’t a good QB coach because the Raider passing offense is ranked 29th this year.
Steve Spurier couldn’t call plays too well (sounds familiar) and Hue took that over sometime during his 3rd and last season. This is a sketchy history but doesn’t mean Jackson’s performance in Washington was sketchy.
Cincinnati, Baltimore, Washington,

So he only should get credit on teams that do well?
but on the teams that don’t do well he deserves none of the blame Blanda?
As far as stats with the Redskins during Jackson’s time as the RB coach they were 28th and 29th in rushing in 2002 and 2003 and he was fired so I’m not sure how this and his year in Atlanta are anything but a failure.
He did have success in Baltimore and Cincinatti and I’m not saying he’s not a good hire all I’m saying is let’s see.
As far as Paul Hackett yeah I’m not a fan. He couldn’t win at either Pitt or USC and he’s been fired by 6 or 7 NFL teams and Russell got worse this year.

Exactly what you're doing, viz, giving credit to general teamsucces
Plus look at the man’s improvement curve, it’s going up. Hackett is respected by people who know more about finer points than either of us.
You like statistics but use often use them in a warped way, I’m not implying that you must because your mind is so warped, but if you’re going to use them exert yourself a little more and approach them with some objectivity. I was trying to open your eyes earlier this year about Morrison but you only spewed out numbers of tackles. Your credibility with me isn’t the greatest.

do you know more specifics about these stats, as well as what exactly happened when he was fired?
I suspect you need to do some more research.

this is too general--you lump the whole performance of those teams
and hold him responsible for it. Give some specifics as to his contribution to the stats you cite.

Cable comments on Jakson hiring
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Wilson-Cable-comments-on-Jackson-hire.html
So obviously he is on board with it and i read somewhere else that Jackson said he had met with Davis and Cable while he was in Oakland so obviously Cable has been part of the hiring process.

“I think it’s a good decision by the organization,” Cable told National Football Post while observing the South team practice at the Senior Bowl today. "It’s someone that I’m familiar with. It’s someone that I think can help us take the next step, so we’re all pretty excited about it.
