Raiders hanging in there down only 14-10 at the half. Charlie Frye is looking good, but the defense has to limit the big plays to pull this one out.
Let's end the 2009 season on a high not and create some playoff turmoil. GO RAIDERS!!!

Defense
They’re definitely going to need to step up as Flacco is 9-for-13 and the running backs have killed us.
The defense is bending and not breaking as usual, but I fear that they will break.

it’s the job of the secondary QB to go in there and fill in. But when you go in the last few minutes of a game after the rest of the team held it close and managed the game for you, you don’t get all teh credit.

and it would be a clutch play. Not a QB coming in at the end and basically lockign the door once everyone’s gone home for the night.

But take a look at the number of sacks allowed this season, and you’ll see the #1 problem with this offense.

How come then Russell has REGRESSED from last season to this season? And Grad and Frye, before playing for Oakland, had numbers worse than Russell. So how do you explain that?

the green off the rookies for the first half of the season, and gets pulled from a game where there were 8 drops.
Russell was missing protection and was dealing with rookie receivers.
If you think Grad and Frye are what we should invest in long term, then you’re not looking out for the longer term interests of the team.
We should take advantage of Russell’s burn-in years by building our lines.

he has A LOT to work on. If you think that was all russel, your extremely mistaken. you blame the o-line for russel’s bad play, when russel needs to work on qb pocket awareness and moving in the pocket to get that extra 2 seconds. he does not do that, and he gets sacked. he’s not that good at the moment.
he didn't show any thing different that game than i have seen from him this season.
no pocket presence. it’s like he expected the o-line to do all the work for him. the o-line should get the credit.

Cable's Playcalling w/ Russell Atrocious
What is it about Tom Cable that doesn’t allow him to move the pocket with Russell when he’s happy to do it for Gradkowski or Frye? Russell held onto it a little too long, but the playcaller can usually help a QB make more time for an important throw.
Cable has all but given up on Russell, and it shows in his playcalling at times.
I'm in the smallest of minorities, but I'm still a big supporter of JaMarcus Russell.
It's both their faults
Russell obviously held onto the ball too long and didn’t properly protect it while he was holding it. My point was that Cable seems to put Russell in a position to fail while seemingly putting Gradkowski and Frye in positions to succeed with shorter passes and by moving the pocket.
Cable put Russell into a position to fail with that play, and Russell failed.

For the way he was getting drilled
