Raiders Post Game Poll: Turning the Corner?

For the last seven years, that kind of play just doesn't happen for the Raiders, it happens against the Raiders.

All of Raider Nation needs to relish this moment in what might finally be the momentum that springboards the turning of the corner for this team.

This was the type of victory that catalyzes the whole organization to come together. There were flaws too be sure, but this was the first FULL team victory (including coaching) that I can remember in quite some time.

How do you  feel about the team now after this losing streak breaking victory against San Diego?

I'm going to keep my vote

Until they’ve shown they can carry the momentum. I don’t want to vote in one of the negative options after a great win, but the team still has to show they can win back to back. Good performance, now go do it again!

No change after this big win

No change because what has been typically happening to the Raiders is everytime they get a big win, the next game, albeit home or against a scrub team that they should beat, they come out flat and get blown out or loose close. We are playing the 49ers next who beat us in the preseason and should have won their last two games.

by Archangel25 on Oct 11, 2010 4:45 AM PDT reply actions

Trap game, that's why. Those fuckers must be hungry for their very first win of the season.

But If coach keeps them in a great aggressive mentality, we should win.

Let down maybe but not a trap game yet.

We need to get better before we start getting in trap game mode. We haven’t won back to back games in two years. Remember when we had lost 17 straight division games before Kiffin got here. This team needs to focus on one game at a time.

the trap game is really based on a visceral feeling that San Fran is due and Raiders are

inferior enough to steal a win.

This is a very murky mentality to fall into. JC makes few mistakes and the 49ers need to win the Turnover battle to win games. I also feel our pass rush can take their O-line to school. Frank Gore and Davis are formidable opponents, contain them, eliminate mistakes [turnovers, penalties] and I think we win.

Yeah

I’ll second that. It’s only a trap game in our mind. The Niners have had 5 games to avoid going winless already. This one is no different for them or for us. We’re going to (hopefully) do our best out there, as will they, and the better team will win.

i agree as well

i was hoping the 49’er’s would have beat the eagles, that way they would have gotten that goose egg of the boards, and with us coming off a big win, i hope we can keep it togeather in the battle of the bay

The Raiders showed hunger and intensity; the coaches adapted their sets, playcalling

and were especially creative with personnel arraignments . The team integration and sustained focus prove we have evolved.

i always said

if we beat the chargers, were improving. thats exactly what we did yesterday.

i think the 49ers could be a great measuring stick if we win or a bad one if we lose.
remember, they beat us in the preseason when we thought we were doing great. but then they turned around and went 0-5. i think if we lose, we shouldnt beat ourselves up cuz they do have the mismatch advantage. but if theyre not working cohesively as a team and we win, we shouldnt exactly get our hopes up all that high neither. solely for the fact that we won two in a row, that would be the main reason to be happy after a win next sunday.

by S.D. Raider on Oct 11, 2010 3:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Each team brings its own challenges. Dominant TEs have troubled us and VD is top flight. Speedy RBs like Gore have

also burned us as have QBs with good arms like Smith. The formula for the 49rs isn’t too different however than it was for the real Chokers, i.e. bring intense pressure against the QB and, next week, do it early.

We have just proven that we can “man up” to win the game. What was that Marty S?
Now we must prove we can string wins together. The AFC West is wide open and we must take advantage of it!

I dont know what i saw yesterday!!!

We were blitzing like madmen on the last series. We was bringing constant heat when they were on our 30, and Philip Rivers seemed shocked. Hat tip to our DC..he felt like if SD was going to win, they sure as hell better limp away with that victory. Big ups to Huff!

by Kobe Won Kenobi on Oct 11, 2010 5:54 AM PDT via mobile reply actions

I think a lot of it had to do with necessity

At that point they were in field goal range and in order to win it they had to get a sack, or push SD back. Huge difference in that they didn’t sit back and take it, they brought the game to the Chargers at that point and finally made a play to win the game. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Raider team make it happen like that. Even after they got the ball back after the TD (that the refs somehow didn’t screw up, possibly due to the Commish being in the house among Raiderfans), the Raiders still played bump and run and blitzed. Who the hell locked up Al Davis for the final few minutes of the game? Give that man a medal!

Did you see the game? We need to blitz constantly until Shauneghssey, Houston, Seymour, Scott and occasionally Wimbley prove they can garner pressure without it.

HELL YEAH! GO RAIDERS!

I slept well last night. And I was still pumped when I got up at 4am to go to the gym this morning. Go Raiders!

I only got to see the last few minutes of the 4th quarter on NFL Redzone. But I’m confident this one will make NFL Replay this week. I can’t wait.

What I did see (in my limited viewing) was when the Raiders only rushed 4, there was no pressure and Rivers was getting a 1st down per attempt. When they blitzed…GOOD THINGS HAPPENED.

Outside of Nnamdi, the secondary isn’t stellar. But if they bring the pressure, the secondary IS good enough to keep those plays in front of them and make the tackles. QB’s can’t beat you deep if you don’t give them time. Time to step out of antiquated Defense and step into the new milineium. It’s effective. They proved it yesterday.

GO RAIDERS!

I voted other.

It is 1 win and not much may change but it was against the Chargers, it ended the streak and it put as at 1-0 in the division. However this needs to keep up. I don’t remember seeing a game where we had a safety, two blocked punts and got two return touchdowns. Also Loper doing a great holy roller impersonation was incredible. The offense played the best game I’ve seen out of them collectively in years. Bush played his best all-around game ever (pass-protection, rushing, receiving.)
I was worried when Campbell came back out but this guy really showed a lot. Also Hue Jackson called his best half of football since he’s been here. The team did not abandon the run and made some good calls after the 4th and 2 failure.
Also Marshall should be given some credit but of course when a QB throws for nearly 300 yards against you and you get no pressure whatsoever it’s obvious you should bring the blitz. The Jets don’t have a big pass rush guy but they manage to apply pressure. After losing 38-0 last year you would think Al would figure this out and copy it. To all the coaches, please keep it up next week against a Niner team that is desperate for a win.

I too Voted other too, TAW !!!

It was a good game for us, got that S.D. Gorilla off our backs. We got the breaks this game. And for once, no bad calls went against us. The D.C. finally let it all hang out. We’re a better defense when we’re bringing the pressure, that’s obvious !!! Campbell showed with just a little time, and him moving his feet, he can move the ball. Our O-line probably played their best game of the year, will very little calls against them, that was big !!! You can try to called it a mind if you want, but this is a trap game, and the need to pla the best ball again, to get by it, matter of fact they need to the rest of the year as a trap game, because if you look at for what it really is, until they lose a game, everyone game coming up WILL be considered a trap Game.
Now here comes the distraction, Campbell vs. Gradz !!! No time for this BS !!! Gradz was hurt, before he got hit Sunday !!! He was throwing the ball all kind of weird last Sunday, and something was up then. And I think the way he plays, and his desire to play , he just might have kept it to himself, the extent of his pain, and injury. Just think about it, His throwing motion was fucked last week. I think he tweaked something , and didn’t tell anyone !!! So Campbell the starter, until he plays himself out of it, or otherwise !!! This gives Gradkowski time to heal, so we can have them both down the stretch. Truefully, we gonna need both, for the different styles defenses, depending on who we play. Who says we can’t play both. Remember, We are the Raiders, we play by our own BEAT. Always Have, Always will !!!!

But my buddy who i went to the game with, was quick to point out the plays that they had made(Him being a S.D.fan) were big yardage plays!!!! We just created fumbles after them which, kept them from scoring more !!!! Big props to the DEFENSE, They won this game, in spite of Cry Me a RIVERS !!!

Hold my vote

Until I see what happens next; this isn’t the first big win that the team has had, only to fall flat on their collective asses the next week. The proof is in the doing, not the saying.

Great first quarter on special teams, but the pass defense sucked ass all day. This was a game that could very easily have gone the other way, so while it was huge, to not only end the streak and get off on the right foot in the division, I’m not going to hold it up as an example o ‘what we can do’.

Devil’s advocate: is there now a QB controversy since Campbell came in and played as well as he did…?

by signcut on Oct 11, 2010 8:24 AM PDT reply actions

There may be a controversy.

Of course wait until next week. Both quarterbacks played well when they weren’t the man to game plan for. Gradkowski did however play well against Arizona if it wasn’t for a few Darrius Bonehead Bey drops and our fat Polish kicker.

I’m really psyched by this win, but we have some things we need to fix on D. We got the big turnovers in the redzone, but giving up that many passing yards, when it’s supposed to be a strength is terrible.

I agree with TAW , I voted "other" for now.

Of all the plays that were made by the Raiders yesterday the one that stood out was “The Loper roll”. When I saw that heads up, extra effort performance I came out of my seat in disbelief. It’s been years since I’ve seen an effort like this out of a Raider team. The fuckers just flat out WANTED it. The offense still seemed half asleep at times (albeit against a good D in a big game) and I’ll agree with Sons that overall the playcalling of the coaching staff was good, especially on the defensive and special teams side. the Chargers had special teams problems coming into the game and our Coaches exploited them. The Niner game will be the true test as to how bad both these teams want it. The both may be playing for their respective Coaches jobs. This was the first game of the season I have been home and not in my pickup truck in the middle of WY. That meant I could finally get shitfaced for a Raider game, and it couldn’t have come at a better time ,or against a better team. R.F.F.R.

A GIFT FOR RAIDER NATION !

I was in North Dakota for 10 days and one of the “Company Men” (a die hard Raider fan) gave me this receipe for “RAIDER ROOT BEER”. 20 cups of water. 6 cups of sugar. 2 tablespoons of root beer EXTRACT (concentrate will work) and a FIFTH of Everclear grain alcohol. Put water in large pot -heat till it ‘s just ready to boil (do NOT let it boil) stir in sugar thoroughly until water appears clear TAKE OFF BURNER and lt it cool for 1/2 hr . Add root beer extract or concentrate. Let cool for 20-30 min. more. When mixture is still warm add Everclear grain alcohol – stir it in , and "bottle it " in pint mason canning jars (a case of 12 will cost you $8 at K mart or Wal mart. Let them sit for at LEAST a week and then go for it. You will NOT taste the alcohol but it’s there as you will quickly find out. Make KICK ASS big boy rootbeer floats and awesome Sno-cones , as well as being enjoyed on the rocks. Takes 15 minutes to make , 45 min to cool and bottle and you use 1 pan so the old lady can’t bitch about the mess. Go light with this stuff or it will kick your asses Brothers. you can do other flavors like Orange, banana rasberry or lemon. This will be right up NOONTIDE’s alley , for sure!

though Carr has had some success against the Raiders when he was in Houston, he’s a sack taking mofo. His pocket awareness is almost as shitty as the one who shall remain nameless.

Here’s my question, do you isolate Nnamdi on Davis or Crabtree? The best development from Sunday was the revelation that Mikey Mitch can cover TEs, and cover them well. Given how shallow we are at LB right now, has anyone though of maybe employing a 4-2-5 defense as our base? Or even a 3-3-5 since we have so many DE/OLB hybrids? Mitchell showed he can be effective in a hybrid S/OLB role, so why not employ that look more often?

Might be too early, some of the greatest players, turned coaches underperform and

underwhelm themselves.

Short lists include; Magic, Wayne Gretzky, Isaiah Thomas, etc.

Singletary has a problem: his system has some non-believers in the midst. It’s hard to grasp the attention of 75 men, have them believe your words and execute. Mike’s problem is a very simple one; there are guys in his locker room that don’t want to win as bad as he does. The one immeasurable gain, is, that you never really know how bad a guy wants to win unless you see it before your very eyes.

Oh, right you are

My dad pointed out to me long ago that the superstars out on the field often are relying on their obvious talents while bench players have to approach things differently, which often results in a better coach.

The bench warmers — those good enough to stay in their respective league for many years, but not good enough to play all the time — not only watch the game as a whole instead of from one player’s perspective, but they also talk to the coaches during a wide variety of circumstances over many years. They also have to rely much more on smarts and preparation instead of being the “superstar” who is constantly told (from Jr. High on) that they are a “superstar”.

No one would question the work ethic of your short list — that is not my point. Rather, the bench player has to be crafty and rely on out-thinking their opponent (again, on a wide view instead of from a particular position) vs. a Deion Sanders-type player who had such obviously superior skills that their role was different and did not necessarily lead to being able to coach or to offer other players their perspective in a patient, teaching sort-of-way.

I think of Magic in particular on my final point when it comes to a complete lack of patience when it comes to anyone not leaving it all on the court — calling people out constantly from practice to 48 minutes of a game wears thin — as evidenced by Singletary currently.

The “bench player” I describe has seen many different personalities and seen many different coaching approaches attempted; the successful coaches in this scenario are constantly keeping mental notes and grow into their post-playing days.

yes, this was a much neede win for the Raiders

They proved that they could play as a team, they proved that they still had fight in them, they proved that they could come from be hind and they proved that they could win the close one.now they have one ting left to prove, they must prove that they can dominate a game from start to finish.

The niners have shown that they have some fight in them, they nearly won against the St’s and last night against the Eagles.they where being dominated in both games, but where able to fight back and make it close.

I see this weekends upcoming game as going one of three way’s.either the Raiders will come out and destroy the Niners from start to finish,The niners will have had enough and come out breathing fire, giving the Raiders a sound thrashing or The Raiders control the game for the first 2 1/2 quarters, but let the niners make it another close loss.

Voted for just 1-win

My expectations haven’t really changed after the win and still see a 7-9 team. Had they lost this game, I might have graded us down, but I saw this team compete in a way that makes me hopefull we’ll still be contending late into the season. Much like the Niners, our season may well depend on how the next game shakes out. Gotta win on the road against a struggling team. Must win consecutive games at some point. Great win, loved the pressure at the end by the D. No matter how much they were beaten throughout the day, with their backs against the wall with less than 2 mins left they came up huge and made the play to win the game. Offense came around to play well enough, still needs improvement, but we can see that we’ve got 2 backs capable of getting over the 100 mark. Now if we can just freaking pass block we might have something. Go Raiders!

Yep

This was a step in the right direction, but this team needs some more positive things to happen before we can say they have turned the corner.

only question is

will we rise to the occasion ? i think we can. as a matter of fact inside my cold silver and black heart i know we will and btw smith/carr whoever isnt phillip (cry me a) rivers so that 400 yd bullshit isnt happening this week its the battle of the bay and were gonna stomp those gayboy whiners in thier own back yard!!!!!!!!!

Again, I don't care if Alex Smith passes for over 300 yards if it means we shut down their running game and win the game.

Our defensive line isn’t good enough to apply much pressure with just our four consistently so we must continue to bring blitzes with Wimbley, Scott and the safties. Hell our safties look good when they aren’t covering receivers but when Huff knocked the ball out of Rivers’ hand he looked like Derrick Burgess for a second.

716 votes (at this juncture)

I mean, I know I hit vote button twice by mistake, but are some of you stuffing the ballot, or do we really have that many people logging in?

I don;t think you have to be logged in to vote.

I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

Question is

What’s the bigger rivalry? I’d been looking forward to this Niners game for months, but beating them won’t top what happened yesterday, no matter how much I loathe Niner fans. Nothing will top yesterday’s game unless we beat them worse next time.

I would expect it will be the same for them. Are they more worried about beating us than their divisional rivals? Seattle was their most crucial game thus far, and they’ve got an improved Rams team coming up. For a team that was predicted to win their division, those hopes are largely destroyed now.

I think we hold the edge in the series 6-5

But do you guys think this team is running high in emotions? Cause I hope not. Emotional win can lead into disappointing trap games like this one coming up.

I’m tellin you, field, the crowd was rocking like we clinched the west… No, but really, you had to have been there up feel that monkey lift up off the thousands of people!!!

I don’t know how many people I high fived?!?! I feel sorry for the folks I hi dived cause I got a cast on!!! And I was swing for the fences… Lol

Great game… Let’s keep the momentum and play like champions.

SF is the corner

They have to win two in a row. SF is as bad as they’re record states. Yes, they’ve made a couple games look respectable late, but they haven’t played well and Alex Smith will still make the critical mistakes. That said, if the Raiders can win in SF, as they should, I think the combination of ending that rediculous streak and winning two in a row can spring board them into division contention.
