Around SBN: Chan Sung Jung Wins Thriller Over Dustin Poirier

An Oakland win today and the Divisional Crown is a real possibility; a loss, and it’s back to scrounging for silver linings

Make no mistake, the Raiders are playing for their identity today. The stigma of being a team that cannot stand the slightest success, i.e. a complacent host, can be exorcised today (!) on a gray, wet, and windy field near the surging Pacific. We must win - there is no option here. Advance or perish, fight hard or fade into obscurity for another year.

God Bless the Raiders! And by the venerable balls of Al Davis, may every Raider give his best today.

You are right

Right now we look like we are playing street ball. Keys to the game is Simple Stop Gore, help with TE in coverage. We have to be able to run the ball and protect the QB when we throw the ball. DHB has to make plays today bottom line he can’t be out played by Craptree.

AMEN, Do I hear an AMEN Brothers?!!?!?!!!!!

SOB , I’m so nervous over this one it’s not funny. I don’t get off work till 6 MT so the old Lady is tivoing the game and I won’t know the score until I watch it. I could watch it in the truck at work but…………………… wouldn’t be able to ingest copious amounts of alcohol. After watching these guys for years I can feel a big game coming on ,and it’s almost like I’m playing again ,not them. Man I hope, I just fucking hope. keep up the good work. R.F.F.R.

Oh no K, it's cool !

I have a direct TV set up in my pickup truck but I’m going to wait till I get home so I can drink ! It’s also nice fast forwarding through all the f’in commercials too. No , I’ll watch the game… just a couple hours after it’s over. The tough deal is to keep from finding out the final , and all my “Pals” know what I’m doing so they send me text messages like" Oh no, looks ugly in the bay" even if our boys are leading 60 to 0. Like son’s said this one has to be played with no quarter – kick ass and take names later. Win,we have a damn good chance. Lose and we’ve lost a chance at the division and the playoffs, period. Still

Much better defenses that were playing in the Auburn-Arkansas game yesterday. Anybody see that one?

by rightnasty on Oct 17, 2010 10:49 AM PDT up reply actions

No, but so far it looks like......

The Rams are taking a few pages from our playbook last week against the chokers. Rivers – 3 sacks 1 int in the first Q Rams 10-0. Man I hate that arrogant Dick. Like when L.T. used to come to Oakland and yell at the crowd , “Yeah , you remember me”. And the Broncos and Chiefs suck too! Ghosts and karmas of Raiders past and present be our twelth men today!

by Wyoraider on Oct 17, 2010 10:58 AM PDT reply actions

Was just gonna mention that

Rivers got a QB rating of 22.4 so far.

by rightnasty on Oct 17, 2010 11:01 AM PDT up reply actions

I am pissed that the Rams can hold them to so few yards

but we gave up 300 before half time. we have to play discipline football in order to win this game. If we don’t get to pass heavy on offense and play our gaps up front we should wins this game. JC has to throw the ball down the field.

have sacked Rivers 5 times already.

Tell ya

For all the hype of this game, it’s the Chiefs we should really be worried about.

by rightnasty on Oct 17, 2010 11:21 AM PDT reply actions

they are the best in the west

hands down. they have the best coaching staff I have seen. Romeo has that defense on point. When I watch us play we are so out of control out there. I don’t think we even have a defensive scheme out side of man to man. Marshall has to get this defense hitting, getting Picks, and forcing more turnovers. Too many teams get relaxed playing us because they know they will get a big play or two playing us. We have to fix our defense in order to o at less 8-8

a little premature to think division

SF is not in our division of course but we still have to play denver, KC twice and SD again, The rest of the schedule is very tough. Indy, Pitts. I’d be happy to go 8-8 and a wild card game.

also, no need to bring up al’s wrinkly sack.

Ya

This is probably more realistic.

by rightnasty on Oct 17, 2010 12:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

We can’t start thinking division right now. Just take it week by week and just win. Don’t think about the other stuff, and it will all fall into place if we just WIN!

Positive Vibes

SOB i think you are being overly negative, if this team is to return to greatness, we need to have some faith that they will!! Even with a loss, this season is far from over, Our schedule is ridiculously weak. 49ers could pull out there first win today, i mean they are a good team. But to say a loss today would leave us searching for silver lining the rest of the year is a stretch.. I mean um, 10 more games this year….

OAK/SF GAME MISTAKES BY OAKLAND

1)An obvious catch by JLH was not challenged by Oaklands Coach Cable which would have gave us 20 yards and a 1st down.

2)Raiders have not passed a single deep pass other than to Murphy. Wake up Raiders, throw a pass to the sidelines to your super-fast receivers Murphy or DHB.

3)On a 3rd a 9 its not the brightest idea to throw a quick pass behind the line to Jacoby Ford.

Football is not that complicated Cable. Spread the field by going deep to DHB or Murphy and then pound the run.

Stop forcing the run when its obvious that the job isnt getting it done. Pass it on 1st down sometimes instead of forcing Michael Bush through the line.

Tell me what your take is?

by ayla m on Oct 17, 2010 2:43 PM PDT reply actions

major mistake is having branch as a safety and he doesnt know what the word means.

release branch, i have been on a soap box since last year and this year on getting rid of branch., it was nice to hear rich gannon say the same thing. branch made crabtree look like an all pro and get burned again. he also cant watch a tight end like davis and 2 td’s were the cause of branch. i am going to say this again branch needs to be released and let someone else play the postion. branch is a bum!!!!!

Oakland MISTAKES

1)PASS THE BALL Deep on 3rd down. One of 3 things can happen. Incomplete. Interception near opponents endzone. Or a PI. You have 2/3 that something good will happen.

2)Bring in Nick Miller as receiver do quick slants. Take out JLH.

3)Pass dump offs to Michael Bush instead of running it. We are averaging 2.3 yrd per run. At least do a dump off pass to him.

by ayla m on Oct 17, 2010 3:05 PM PDT reply actions

Mistakes

ayla m, I can agree on some points but, JLH didn’t catch that one, it would have been for naught, he didn’t have full possession till out of bounds, in his hands yes, but Not controlled, he bobbled it, plus only one foot came down in bounds that I saw.
And yes, Safety seems to be a weak point as yet on the D, who otherwise are playing well, yet even that wasn’t the difference in today’s game. The offense only had 2 drives the entire game !!!!!! Not the WR’s fault, J.C. missed them more than they dropped, and why Zach was a non entity till too late puzzle’s me more. Or as mentioned, get it to Bush, rather than continuing sending him up the gut for little or no gain, that right there wasn’t setting them up for anything but what they got, a loss.
Plain and simple, the offense lost this game, be it certain players or the play calling, but to have 2 qrts of play with 0 passing yards is absurd, the Niners D Wasn’t/Isn’t anywhere near That good.

by Kevin Coffman on Oct 17, 2010 6:17 PM PDT reply actions

Agree

JLH actually did catch that one. I have the game recorded and have it paused with JLH controlling the ball and dragging the last feet in bounds.

The play calling was horrific and they wouldnt abandon the run game until the 4th quarter. The whole point of having fast receivers(with mediocre talent) is spread the field. These receivers arent the best route runners, so use them for what they are good for and that is their speed.

Why is Nick Miller not being used as a WR, he has showed that he is capable of making remarkable catches and quick moves.

Tyvon Branch does need to do a better job at his position. Huff needs to do a better job at tackling RB when they are coming at him.
