Who I Think Needs To Go This Offseason

These are the players i think need to be replaced or flatout cut. And before anyone says it im not a Gradkowski hater or Jason lover.

Offense

Bruce Gradkowski or Kyle Boller (Have them battle it out for third string. Draft a backup or potential starter)

Charlie Frye- Great third string but not better than anyone we have right now.

Heyward-Bey- Bust.

Johnnie Lee Higgins- Sucks at returning, sucks at being a reciever.

Mario Henderson- Poop

Cooper Carlisle- Ancient and penalty prone.

Defense

Chris Johnson- Unless he works for free i don't want to see him being burned next year.

Stanford Routt- Never liked Stanford got routted.

Ricky Brown- Has never been impressive to me as a linebacker.

Sam Williams- Because Al Davis loves him.

I'd keep Routt ...

I think he’s getting better in general, I think he’s good enough to be the 3rd corner/nickel back. But we need to replace CJ with someone really good. I was pulling for the Raiders to grab Al Harris for that spot a couple weeks ago. But we definitely need another stud at CB.

I actually wish that we’d kept Chris Carr and Fabian Washington, both those guys have played better since leaving the Raiders. I think either of those two is better than Routt or CJ. Imagine if we’d just been a better team in the 2000’s so that Woodson wouldn’t have wanted to leave. If we had Nnamdi and C Wood right now … damn. That’d have been tight.

The rest of your list, I agree. I’d like to see Grad as 3rd string, Campbell as backup, and a stud QB (that doesn’t get hurt often) as our starter. I didn’t think Frye was even on the roster this year?

I’ve never understood why JLH is even on the squad. He’s never impressed me in any way. In fact, I wouldn’t care if we cut our whole WR squad except for JF and started over, frankly.

Just about every one plays better when they leave us

We have only only style of play deep ball run the ball some. We have one of the worst coaching staff in the NFL. Hue Jackson is the only coach on our team that can get another Job. Hue Jackson needs to run an offense that fits Campbell hands down. Norv Turner left Oakland now he is a top head coach in the NFL. AL has allowed tom to run this team there is no reason for this poor coaching.

by Micheal Y on Nov 29, 2010 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

This style of play you mention

comes directly from Al Davis and has been his philosophy for the last 100 years, and it fits Campbell pretty well, except for the fact that we can’t pass the ball effectively and can’t hold our blocks for 7-8 seconds and now can’t run the ball either. The reason for the poor coaching is poor coaches, again Al’s domain. Cable is not allowed to pick his coaches, he is saddled with whoever Al thinks is good and is left to make it work. I’m not saying that Cable is a good coach by the way, just that whatever you see on the field is mostly Al Davis generated, good and BAD

I know AL has his hand in everything

But we all now AL has allow Tom way more freedom than any coach since John. Tom problem is yes most of those coaches aren’t his guys but damn you can’t make you team stay late until they catch the damn ball. Or give you oline real Blitz looks in Pratice.Just because we run man to man doesn’t mean the Rest of the NFL will. I think we have alot of talent on the back end of our secondary but them seem to get lost playing simple coverage. Thats on coaches and Tom because he is the head coach. We all know AL is everything to this team the GOOD and ALL of this BAD

by Micheal Y on Nov 29, 2010 3:33 PM PST up reply actions

Lets say we get rid of Cable then what?

Al promotes Hue? we’ll still have the likes of Sanjay Lal, Lionel Washington and these other poor excuses for coaches.
It’s still a big fuckin mess, until Al is gone the Raiders are going to be just like the coaching staff a mish-mash of miscast, misused morons. Coaching is most important in football more so that any other sport. Look at the likes of Parcells, Walsh, Belechick and Jimmy Johnson all had long term success and all had control over there coaches and players. Al just doesn’t do it that way.

I'll also add ... Tom Cable ...

I thought he’d be replaced before both of the last two seasons. He’s never impressed me at all. And we need Davis to turn over the team to a proper GM who knows what he’s doing. Davis clearly has no clue how to put together a winning football team anymore, and hasn’t for a long time now. Both our drafts and our free-agent pickups for the past 8 years, overall, have sucked. His coaching choices have also sucked, because he refuses to pick up a top-flight, high-paid coach. In fact he won’t hire anyone who won’t be his beeatch, it seems.

I do know some folks that are very close to Al though, and these people are telling me it’s virtually certain that the man isn’t going to be around much longer, unfortunately. I don’t want the dude to die, at all. Just ‘retire’. But the way it’s looking, the two are going to be synonymous, and they will likely be happening pretty soon.

I just hope there’s a plan in place for when it happens.

Totally agree on the GM

and paying top dollar for a good coach…it’s just never been the Raider way

I agree with most of what you said except...

for last years draft. Out of that draft we have a starting MLB, a starting DE and a starting LT. Also guys that play constantly in Jermey Ware, Stevie Brown and now Travis Goethel. Lets not forget our best receiver and kick return stud Jacoby Ford. The only guys from our last draft that havn’t played much are Walter McFadden, who was set back with touchy hamstrings in camp and has been behind ever since and Bruce Campbell who is making progress. That’s a pretty goddamn good draft, probably one of the best drafts the Raider have ever had.

JUST DOMINATE BABY !!!

There have been some exceptions to be sure ...

But you look at the bulk of the pickups via free agency and draft, and at the very least, very few of these people have played well for the Raiders when they were here, and most of them just haven’t been all that great of players period. Javon Walker, anyone?

I wouldn’t have minded keeping Chris Carr around though … and it’s too bad what happened to Ronald Curry, I think he might’ve been a great receiver in the NFL if injuries hadn’t taken him out of the game.

by Brett J Valjalo on Nov 29, 2010 11:57 AM PST up reply actions

Yup

Jason Campbell is gonna look good in Jax uniform next year.

Who needs to go?

While we are playing fantasy GM here let’s get rid of the guy calling the shots. That would move this team in the right direction for once.

Oh, no doubt ...

What’s the one constant in the Raiders completely failing for the lion’s share of the past 20 years?

The failure clearly starts at the top.

LOL yeah

the thing that i hate about our squad is that most wouldnt start on other teams we have players that would be second stringers, and Danny Lopers unfortunanetly would be a practice squad…. We need talent.

look at green bay they got aaron rodgers right their from cal berkley. why cant al davis draft a smart qb from a good school? j-bust was a bust as soon as we drafted him, ha had no hope. i didnt like wen we drafted him from the get go.

I think Bruce has to Go

Yeah I said. It’s not because of yesterday game its because he has Tom and the fan base wrapped around his finger. As long as he is here we will never develop a young QB because when he struggles Bruce is going to be in the coaches ear trying to get on the field. We need a Vet WR like a Hines Ward that will work these young WR’s into NFL WR’s.

by Micheal Y on Nov 29, 2010 3:09 PM PST reply actions

I think with Bruce's abysmal performance yesterday ...

before a packed house, in the most important home game we’ve had in 8 years … his stock has just suffered SEVERELY in everyone’s eyes. I can’t imagine there’s many people who have not been disabused of the notion of Bruce as any sort of savior.

I like this list

The only thing I will add is an asterisk to guys I want hit in the back of the skull with a 2X4 on their way out of the door.
*Walter McFadden
*Stanford Route

by golfswithglock on Nov 30, 2010 6:33 AM PST reply actions

If we're pretending...

(alphabetically)

Offense:

RG Carlisle
WR Figurs
QB Frye
WR Higgins
C Satele
RT Walker

(The problem with dropping so many OL is the need to replace them; Parsons is the only OL on the D-squad, which leaves needing at least 2 starters. If I had to, I’d keep Satele and Walker, depending on whether their replacements could be found, and definitely drop Carlisle)

Defense:

FS Eugene

Coaching Staff:

Sanjay Lal – WR coach
Brad Roll – Strength and Conditioning
Lionel Washington – DB coach

(Willie Brown, Squad Development, came real close to being on this list, as Jim Michalzak and Chris Morgan on the OL)

Wasn't Figurs already cut after week 1?

I think Walker can be a good guard, but not a starting tackle by any means…he’s just not nimble enough.

Oops... you're right

One down, my work has already begun… lol

I agree about Walker; although I don’t know that he can be a ‘good’ OG, I do think that he could hold down a backup spot for now. That is why I would hold onto him longer than Carlisle or Satele. Satele may also be able to be a backup, but I just don’t trust his play.

I'd sure like to draft Stefen Wisniewski for our next center

either that or sign Logan Mankins as a free agent. Mankins is already a proven player and we may not get a shot at Lil Wiz

by rambis64 on Nov 30, 2010 2:48 PM PST up reply actions

He's a likely first rounder, so that's probably not going to happen

I don’t see trading up for him being a viable scenario either, because we need to draft as many players as we can, especially in the later rounds, where Al is generally at his best.

Not to say that I don’t want a C or RT, but that one or the other should probably not come as the main player from the draft; we are still to thin at too many positions to have the luxury to focus on one spot/player.

What do you think of Logan Mankins from the Pats

It would be nice to have the center spot anchored down for awhile. The Raiders have never gone anywhere without a dominant center. We could pick up a RT in the draft and maybe a receiver with actual ball catching ability that can get open too.
Patriot guy, you out there? opinion?

Probably,

but Mankins already held out this year and waited a awhile to sign his tender. everything I’ve read says he’ll be available.

Don't think that Mankins will be a FA

Just my opinion, but the Patriots haven’t gotten to where they are by letting good players walk. Granted, they have also not generally overpaid, but I see a situation in which the differences are split, and Mankins signs a new contract.

We’ll see…
