That one hurt. I mean really, really hurt. Not as much as it hurt Darren Mcfadden, though. When you perform the way that he did in this game, you expect to win. When you accumulate 209 yards from scrimmage, you expect to win. When you have 3 touchdowns of longer than 30 yards, you guessed it! YOU EXPECT TO WIN. Sadly, that is not what happened thanks to a 5 minute, 14 point swing in the 3rd quarter and even after that we still had a good chance to win. Bad special teams coverage and non existent run defense allowed the Jaguars to take back the lead after Run DMC laid the pipe on the Jaguars D to tie it up less than 20 seconds earlier. Now that really hurt, but even after that the Raiders started moving the ball down the field to try and send it into OT. I have to wonder if Jason Campbell suddenly had an acid trip-like Redskins flashback, because he suddenly forgot how to run a 2 minute drill. A succession of 2 and a half plays left the Raiders far short and out of time. The half play was after a completion, Campbell suddenly decided to move slower than he would have if one of his legs had suddenly vanished. After taking far too long to get the next play off Campbell then decided he would hold the ball for too long and take a sack. Anybody older than 6 that plays football knows you can not take a sack in that situation. Throw the ball! Then after having to take our last timeout Campbell decided to complete the tri-fectah and throw the ball 15 yards to the middle of the field, where there was no chance whatsoever of stopping the clock.
The main question I have of that last drive is why on earth did we not get the ball into Mcfadden's hands?! The guy has a 60+ yard TD reception, a 50+ yard TD run, and the previous game tying 37 yard TD run. You don't think he is dying to get the ball in his hands at that moment of the game? The last time he touched the ball with the game on the line I think he did pretty well. No you certainly can't blame this loss on Mcfadden. I have to say DMC, if it makes you feel any better though, you did insure my spot into my fantasy football playoffs. No, I wont give you a cut of my winnings if I happen to win. Not even if I'm admitting it is because of you that I have a shot. Sorry bro.
Jason Campbell, you still played one hell of a game. Well HALF a game. I'm still proud of the effort that we gave in this game. We left it all on the field, but it just was not quite enough. As bad of a loss as this feels, it does not eliminate us from the playoffs. The Chiefs could still lose today against the Chargers and next week against the Titans. If that happens, and the Chargers drop at least 1 game out of their final 3 after beating the Chiefs, then it is back to win and we are in. It got a whole lot tougher after this loss, but I won't be ready to throw in the towel on this uplifting year until we are mathematically eliminated. We played this game like a playoff team, too bad we didn't win like one. Please, somebody give Darren Mcfadden a hug!
