Chaz Schilens

so most of  the dam few years i have been pissed at this guy! but yesterday when he was thrown two his way and caught them both i was a bit excited this kid can CATCH! if you guys are able go back and look at how he caught both those passes with his hands perfect form, was leaving the ground for no dam reason wasn't worried about taking the hit just simple caught the ball at the best point of attack and hauled it in! Now if we could just give him some of our grandmothers activa or something maybe he wont have such a brittle body!!! haha

He is truly trade fodder

Somebody will love him for his ability on the field, the Raiders have been dragged down by his broken lameness for long enough.

What would we get, a 5th?

Makes more sense to bring him back and see if he can finally stay healthy. He’s cheap and the reward is huge.

He is the best receiver on the team

This isn’t the A’s. This is the Raiders and Al Davis. He’s had some tough injuries, but I would hate to see him winning games for anyone else.

I think we need to bring in a veteran wr, and make him earn it this year

This year he was given a pass, but should not have been relied upon as our possession receiver. We need one in the worst way with our inconsistant starters. His inconsistancy has less to do with his ability than his body breaking down.

We don't take kindly to folks that don't take kindly around here.

Yep, Larry Fitgerald or Vincent Jackson if we have money

or Plaxico Burress if we don’t. I don’t care if our next receiver is a track star but he must have awesome hands and the ability to get open, these guys fit that bill.

Plaxico and Larry Fitz would be nice.

Glass legs, Glue hands

He’s the man. He’ll be in his 4th year next year. That’s great.

gotta go

he is made of glass – thats why he was available so late in the draft. noone doubted his talent, just his ability to stay on the field

Like Chaz, but.......

he’s hurt way too much. I like how hard he plays when healthy, I think he’s a legitimate 2nd or 3rd WR and he’s not expensive. He is just seemingly hurt at the worst times. And its not ever just a simple sprain, its always a tear somewhere. Still, will wish him the best, just not for the Raiders though.

Maybe he needs to improve his diet

to foods that strengthen bone and cartilage.

I’m serious, look what strategic dieting has done for McFaddy.

You saying

there aren’t bone strengthening or cartilage mending help that comes from nutrient/vitamin intake?

by xville on Dec 28, 2010 5:21 PM PST up reply actions

Oh for sure

however someone this fragile often has more underlying issues like congenital deficiencies or predispositions. I think (not sure) he is not a durable player no matter what he puts in his body unless it makes his body like Wolverine.

It just seems that McFaddy

seemed injury prone as well for the first couple years, and his new diet and conditioning seemed to do the trick in a big way.

Maybe Chaz should take some of that stuff Sally Fields is peddling. Anything to shut her up.

by xville on Dec 28, 2010 6:02 PM PST up reply actions

McFadden and Birdlegs are different IMHO

Shillens just seems to have more stuff all the time. McBroken was usually the hamstring. That I atone to improper conditioning AND nutrition.

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Plus, Schillens would have been a possible first round pick

with his size, hands and speed but dropped to a seventh rounder because of health issues in college. So this is something that has plagued him for a very long time. McFadden was never known as a guy with health issues or he would have dropped down the draft board just like Chaz.
The Raiders were well aware of what they were getting in Chaz, they chose to take a chance on him with a seventh round pick, that he might be able to shake the injury bug, kind of like they did with Bush. That hasn’t happened yet, obviously.
They have tried everything with Chaz and I doubt better nutrition or some vitamins have been missed.

He’s playing right now, that’s all that matters.

Let's Hope.......

He can get in 1, just 1 good year where he can stay Healthy !!! We all know he has the hands, speed & size we need at the WO position !!! Well let me check that, Hands & size !! We really don’t know about the speed, with all the injuries he suffered in the last two years (Foot/ankle & Knee). I was hoping, they just put him on the IR, so he could be totally heatlhy for next year.

by papabegood on Dec 27, 2010 10:19 PM PST reply actions

True enough and relatively easy to do when drafted in the seventh round

I imagine we’ll see Chaz again next year. He is already under contract and only scheduled to make $500,000 for next year, his last, so they’ll probably give him this one last chance to stay healthy and produce for the team.

JUST DOMINATE BABY !!!

I'd still go for a late round big guy

in the draft.

That tall guy from Kentucky.

Chaz was our #1 WR going into this season, with Murphy #2 and DHB #3

The reason I believe that we did not go and get a veteran receiver prior to this season was because Chaz and Murphy looked good at the end of the year, both were young and expected to improve. The problem was Chaz got hurt, Murphy and DHBs improvement was negligable, then to make things even worse Murphy got injured. That left us with DHB, JLH and Jacoby Ford (possibly the worst starting receiver corps in history). Thankfully Ford stepped up and has improved to where he is our #1 option at WR. So right now we have Ford #1, Murphy #2 and DHB #3. If we have learned anything at all from this year it is that we need greater depth at WR and a reliable go-to (confidence inspiring) possession receiver. IMO our receivers are all young we do not need to draft anyone, but bring in a veteran. JLH and Miller Lite are expendable, we have too much invested in DBH to cut him, Chaz is cheap and great if he can stay healthy, give him the same training regimen that Darren McFadden is on.

by Oceanside Raider on Dec 31, 2010 5:46 PM PST reply actions

i agree

we should not draft a receiver we got youth, now we need veteran leadership

by RyanTheRaider on Dec 31, 2010 6:25 PM PST up reply actions

understand your logic,

however, there’s a reason Chaz was a 7th round pick from SD state, he was injured in college. Murphy and DHB are 2nd year pros where DHB didn’t deserve to be on the field during his rookie year. Chaz never properly heal and forced the issue this year. So how do you go into the year with 2 2nd year players and a player who missed most of last year with a severe injury? that’s the issue. We needed a proven, safe pair of hands, possession vet going into the year.
