we need to trade down

   xxx

Star-divide

the only way well get better fast is to acquire more players/ picks.  This is a deep draft with quality players in the later rounds. we need to fix many holes so trading down makes sense. it will help financially as well. our history sucks with top picks lately anyway. so we can save money and get more positions filled by trading down. Try to pick up an additional 2nd rounder and we can get  ot  lb and nt/ dt with all the picks wed have!!  makes sense  right?

All things considered - I agree with you. Unless we can pick up a franchise guy like Okung or Suh (perhaps McCoy)

then trading the cursed 1st round pick is an intelligent way to go. I’m getting cold feet on McClain (DS syndrome) and the LBs in the 2nd are as good – Angerer and Weatherspoon – same with DTs after the 1st round – Brian Price, Cam Thomas. As for OTs, after Okung the quality sinks to 2nd round quality anyway – so getting 2 for 1 is good business.

+1

It will be far better on the payroll as well leaving some $$$ for established talent and players loyal to the team THAT PERFORM of course.

I also agree

the 8 pick for is either too high or too lowfor what we need. Al has never been one to trade into a later spot, but trading down and picking up Suh or McCoy***** we’d all shit silver& black. A little wishful thinking as I ponder us getting T.O. Ugh!!!

The Raiders don't trade down in the first round

otherwise this would be a great idea. I would love to see us slide back some to get either Brian Price or see if one of the top Offensive Tackles slides a bit.

The more that I think about it...YES!!!

Henderson and Gallery are the ONLY two players that have roles on our O-Line

Barnes, Walker, Carlisle, Morris and Satele are ALL upgradable in the first round. That being said, I am leaning toward Lupati, and we can get him in the mid first. That would allow us to get Upati and another second rounder for trading down with someone who wants Clausen, McClain or a LT.

Two second rounders would allow us to really upgrade both lines or grab a MLB and another lineman.

I could see it going like this with a trade down:

Lupati
Cody
Vlad Duchasse
Angerer
Tennant

That is a RG, NT, RT, MLB and C.

Angerer seemed a little light

for an NFL MLB, how much did he weigh in at?

How is he for injuries?

by xville on Mar 11, 2010 2:17 PM PST up reply actions

Angerer is

6’0 and weighs 235lbs and pushed 225lbs 26 times at the combine and ran a 4.69 in the 40
I’m sure there is room on his frame for a little more weight

by rambis64 on Mar 11, 2010 4:49 PM PST up reply actions

you mght have to swap

Cody and Vlad in that draft and with our other 3rd round pick take Toby Gehrhart if he’s there. Other than that I like your Mock. Probably better than I’m going to like the actual Raider Draft

With Cody and Kelly in the middle the 4th quarters will be excruciating with time of possession lost

these guys are fat-big and neither can penetrate or pressure the QB, they both take plays off and will certainly fatigue in the 2nd half.

Trading down is not a simple move to make

If it were…it would happen all the time. Teams don’t want to gamble on top picks as much as they used to. Looking back on past drafts…even in the first round…guys are hit and miss no matter who you draft. Guys come out as can’t miss prospects and end up flopping. So I can why most teams would rather sit where they are or trade down themselves.

I think Al is starting to smell Pincer,

and is looking at the awesome DE options in the 1st.

Even if we trade down deep in the 1st, we’d likely get one of these excellent players, still have a shot at some good shake in the 2nd, and pick up whatever he trades down for.

Save money, pick up some good players, and rebuild for depth would be fine by me.

Then again, there’s a chance the Jags would go for Price for their 1st pick, which would piss me off, because he would fill so many needs in the middle.

I remember reading about the linebacker for UCLA getting mad at Price, because he’d line up a killer hit on the opposing RB, and Price would just get off the block and get to him first.

Imagine that.

I’d like Al to stick with our DE’s for now, and get that havok maker we need up front and in the middle.

I WISH.!

you know that wont happen… I definately wouldnt mind though… if we did trade down id actually love to get Sean Weatherspoon… i think he’s awsome… maybe get him then Bruce Cambell in the second (he is a beast but needs work) and who ever after that.. but i looove Weatherspoon.

I would still

like to see Kyle Wilson in silver and black. I’m for trading down a bit.

When is the last time...

any of us remember Al trading down? It’s not the Raider style. We might trade up, wouldn’t mind a shot a Suh, but we lack the ammo for that type of move.

the lions are shopping their pick

maybe swap our 1sts and 2nds and give them both 3rds but i think we should trade down and get either 2 picks in the first 0 in the second or 1 in the first and 2 in the second.

by raiderfan21 on Mar 12, 2010 12:13 AM PST reply actions

I hear Tampa is also interested in

trading out of the 3 pick, might cost a little less and still have a shot at Suh or McCoy

by rambis64 on Mar 12, 2010 8:07 AM PST reply actions

hmm could we?

how about keeping our 8th pick and sending our 2nd, and 3 thirds to detroit for there 1st round pick and get a dt!

by sports with steve on Mar 12, 2010 2:26 PM PST reply actions

ok then what about detroit/tampa and trade up?

sounds like these 2 teams want out but at what price. also about 4 teams need qbs so we have a good shot at a dt and alb in the 1st round. we should deal for 2 1st round picks via detroit/tampa.

by sports with steve on Mar 12, 2010 2:33 PM PST reply actions

Best option is to trade down.

This is of course just us talking because Al never trades down in the draft & always looks at 40 times. However Brian Price & Dan Williams from Tennesse are in the 15-20 range in most mock drafts. Both are considered great NT prospects. Also Bruce Campbell is in that late 1st rd 20-32 range. So if Al trades down then makes a few moves with other picks he can end up with 2 1st rounders, still get either NT prospect & the guy he was hoping for anyway in Campbell. Also there are a lot of great ILB prospects in the 2nd & 3rd rd. You have Navarro Bowman from LB U (Penn St.), Weatherspoon, Spikes & a great stout but short guy Daryll Sharpton (Miami-FL). If he plays his cards right I can see all of these as possibilities.

Looking like the right thing to do. We'll see if any of these tenders we have produce additional picks for us

and therein leverage. I like the guys in the later rounds better anyway.

Top guys have questions too; and they’re gonna get huge contracts.

I'm especially wary

of the OT’s projected to go in the 1st, with the exception of Okung.

by xville on Mar 14, 2010 11:22 AM PDT up reply actions

The Only OT worth

the #8 pick is Okung, the only DTs worth th 8 pick will be gone by then. So we have to trade up to the top of the Draft to get one of them, mostly because Al doesn’t trade down. As has been stated, Campbell can be had in the middle of the first round. But as we saw with DHB if Al thinks Campbell is great, he’ll also think everyone else thinks he’s great too and draft him with the 8 pick.
So to truly get a Pro Bowl type impact player we need to trade into the top 3 picks.
P.S. I’m not saying that Campbell won’t be a Pro Bowl caliber player. He’s just a project

by rambis64 on Mar 13, 2010 11:04 AM PST reply actions

If we refuse to trade down and aren't able to reach the best, then trade up. Either Suh, McCoy or Okung would raise the whole team's

performance – raise the bar by bringing in exceptional players and the whole team is positively affected. Every SB team needs two or three exceptional players – they set the standard every day – on the practice field and on Sundays.

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 13, 2010 10:24 PM PST up reply actions

If we do trade up

then it has to be with Detroit at #2. We can offer Kelly, our #1 & possibly a 3rd rounder. Remember the last time we traded up to #2 with New Orleans & the guy we wanted was already taken by STL. However if we move up to 2 it would be hard for Al to screw up that pick since Suh, Okung, or McCoy would all possibly still be available. I’m only saying this because this seems more realistic than thinking Al will trade down which makes more sense actually.

by TAW on Mar 13, 2010 1:08 PM PST reply actions

I've heard Pat Kirwan discussing with multiple GMs and former GM's lately the fact that more and more teams don't want the high round picks

and our trend with them would make a strong argument in favor of staying the hell away from them too.

It is certainly easier said than done, and it’s why I hope some of these ridiculous tenders would somehow pan out in our favor. If we could stack up with seconds and thirds the way Belichick and NE has done trading down or out of the first, we’d have a dozen picks in the rounds we have had success in.
