What the draft should look like!

OK, I knwo there has been much debate who we should draft in the first round. OT is what most say. But until we stop the run, why bother? Protect an anemic offense? Let our HBs, now both McFadden and Bush run the ball all day and all night! Bush is a stud, let him take the majority of snaps and McFadden to help him out.

8th overall pick - Brian Price DT, UCLA. Big strong and remind alot of people of warren Sapp. Could he wait till the second rd. YEP! But then could have Heyward. I say this is right pick, Big strong and will make an immediate impact on Defense!

8th pick int he seocnd round. none other then Tim Tebow QB, I say this because we need a QB that can run for his life! He can run and run fast! with our O-line he can run and if you loked at him on bench he is the one who will walk over to his O-line and WRs and talk to them. No like Jamarcus who sits on the bench by himself and feels sorry for himself. I say this pick is msart we can;t do any worse at QB. and I Personnaly think he is an upgrade!

8th pick in the 3rd Round.  before I annouce this pick. Look at our head coach. he will find our OT in the 3rd round. I bet he will find that one guy we need to make an immediate impact! Yes you heard it here first. OT in the 3rd Round! Sam Young OT, Notre Dame

22nd pick in the 3rd round. LB. WHo do you say? the one with the fastest 40 time!
Austin Spitler ILB, Ohio State

Why go beyond this pick? these are the ones that count!

This guy looks interesting.

But Tebow?

and I like Brian Price, but is he not a bit of a reach with the 8th overall, and therein a huge contract again, and the questions that come with our top ten overall picks and those fat contracts?

You could have a point about Spitler with his 40 time. I’ll have to look into his ability to captain a defense.

And the reason you go beyond that pick is because of guys like Louis Murphy, Desmond Bryant, Brandon Myers, Nick Miller… those are the ones we come out on top with, in fact, and not the ones that are getting huge contracts without even playing a single snap in this league. It seems advantageous if our guys have to prove themselves, and are not given accolades and media attention without earning it.

I was referring to Sam Young...

but didn’t realize I couldn’t put a link in the headline… his ND profile: S. YOUNG

I wouldn't mind investing in two right tackles

and commit to a vigorous rotation.

Calloway/Young is what I’d have in mind. I would have liked John Jerry for right side rotation behind Carlisle and Calloway but he’s jumped up the draft, and is no longer a value pick. For Guard rotation I’d use our present depth to fill the right side.

Picking up Ciron Black for left side rotation would smart because he can play both tackle and guard just fine on that side.

I like the idea of 2 right tackles

or at least 2 offensive linemen in the first 5 rounds.

I first thought we should

go for four O-linemen, but then when the Center for Notre Dame jumped up in the draft I hesitated.

Also, we may want to use our second round pick next year on a familiar sounding center from Penn.

by xville on Mar 15, 2010 2:07 PM PDT up reply actions

I think when it comes to drafting for offense

they really should stick to O-Lineman. I would love to see the right side of the line with new starters. Hopefully they can identify a decent fullback in either the last round or free agency that can start because they need a good leadblocker. On defense, I softened my stance a little on drafting D-lineman, because I think we have enough DE’s. We have a serious need at NT. The Linebackers still need at least one starter, probably MLB. A cornerback pick in the first 3-4 rounds may be needed as well. I hope we can pick up another pick somewhere before the draft.

What about Petrus?

We could use him as a fullback.

Imagine somebody coming through the line and finding that monster back there with the quarterback?

LOL

He played fullback and a little bit of TE before they stuck him as guard.

The sucker had 45 220 reps, which tied the combine all time record.

by xville on Mar 15, 2010 7:48 PM PDT up reply actions

me two, or one tackle and 1 guard, preferably one that has some versatility

to at least play some tackle and maybe center.

no tebow

get kyle wilson or an OL like Vladimir Ducasse or even better Rodger Saffold.

by patriotguy on Mar 14, 2010 2:22 PM PDT reply actions

Price is more a UT not a NT

He won’t help with the run D If we go D.
Tebow in the 2nd? maybe in the third with or 2nd pick.
But i agree with a RT in the 3rd possibliy

The future is uncertain... and the end is always near. JMorrison

Price would definately help

against the run.

Look at his numbers at TFL, and look at his 220 reps.

by xville on Mar 14, 2010 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions

I disagree with just about every pick

Why waste an 8 pick on a guy who can wait till the 2nd?? Thats absurd. And Tebow in the 2nd? No. He can easily wait till the 3rd, I dont mind if we grab him, just because he can learn and mature while behind bruce.
I love posting my mock so here we go

1st. Joe Haden CB
2nd. Brandon Spikes LB
3rd. Vladimir Ducasse OT
3rd. Linval Joseph DT
4th. Mike Johnson OG/OT
5th. Rashawn Jackson FB

In Bruce We Trust

I like this mock

but I don’t think Ducasse with be there in the 3rd. So I’d take Ducasse or Saffold in the second and Spikes or Angerer in th 3rd. which ever is available, also Manase Tonga in the fifth if Jackson is gone

Yeah, I don't see Ducasse being there in the third, or Joseph, if you waited to use our second third.

Joseph could rise into the second even. I totally think though this draft is deep with DT’s, as stated by s-n-b4life, there are a great many more UT’s than NTs, and the Noses will go quickly, and move up accordingly.

Spikes in the 2nd???

If he is there then I agree he is a real steal. For our 1st round pick! DT for sure. I like Price alot, but the fact he is unproven and maybe not ready for a 3-4 defense. HHHMM Not sure… As for O-line, I agree AL will take campbell, I remember another O-line guy doing the same thing in the draft. Oh wait we got him, Gallery! SO I think that owuld be a huge mistake! Waiting till the third would make sense, caus the O-line in this years draft is deep! Now why did I not go past the third. To hard to tell by who is drafted and when. Tebow in the third would be very nice! But I think he is gone late in the 1st or early in the second! Someone will draft him that early i am sure!
After another week of FA signings, I will post a more indepth draft look and all my picks. Just after the 3rd and 4th round the draft is extremely hard to pick!

Jacksonville is going to take tebow

if not with their 1st ,certainly with their 2nd

by rambis64 on Mar 14, 2010 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

defense is their main need.

they are likely to pick a MLB either in the 1st or 2nd. QB is not on their list.

by patriotguy on Mar 14, 2010 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Tebow is going to be a number 2 QB where ever he goes

learning the system behind the number 1 QB of that team even if it’s not the Jags. But I think it will be.
They must have some shitty fans if they are gonna discard the team just because they don’t draft for need with one player who is a local hero.
Imagine if we discarded the Raiders after every terrible draft pick there would be no one here to argue any points.

by rambis64 on Mar 14, 2010 4:41 PM PDT reply actions

"discarding the team" was just a figure of speech.

Okay he’s a local hero. What if he sucks? Or a bust? Will the fans pay more tickets? Reason why I ask this is because will the pay for more tickets just because he’s a home town favorite, and even if he does not address any of their needs and the jag team played like they did last year due to not drafting a need in the first.

It’s like the raiders drafting someone who is a hometown favorite in Oakland, that is not a DT, MLB, or an OL. That doesn’t make sense.

by patriotguy on Mar 14, 2010 5:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Well I give you some points on going with some different names Toysldr007

I haven’t seen anyone going with Brian Price at 8 but now I’ll look him up and see who he is.

I’m a no vote on Tebow (like my vote counts) as I just don’t think he’ll ever be a successful QB in the NFL.

by sirbed on Mar 14, 2010 5:06 PM PDT reply actions

The 2nd round is tricky.

If Spikes isn’t there, I say pick up Mike Petrus and make him into a Cable specialty position: Mega-Fullback.

by xville on Mar 14, 2010 6:42 PM PDT reply actions

Underrated!

I like the comments, and you know after everything we say here. It matter caus AL is going to do what AL is going to do. But in my opinion I think that Brian Price is way underrated. I figure him to be the best in this class of DT’s. I think in two to three years people will talk about what a steal he was when he got drafted! I just pray if the Raiders don’t pick him up, they get a player of great value and they stop pissing away their #1 picks. I have my opinions on our other #1 picks. I just hope this year will be different. A #1 pick that does not need polishing, but can play and start right away. No need for anymore projects!

by Toysldr007 on Mar 14, 2010 7:39 PM PDT reply actions

I'm not seeing Price drop to the second, and I'm thinking the Jags will take

him at #10 if we don’t pick him at #8.

He’s strong, he’s got as many 220 reps as Bruce Campbell, and two more than Suh.

by xville on Mar 14, 2010 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Right, there's no way Price drops below

the top 25 picks. He’s a damn good player both against the run and pass.

dt's in 2nd round

i really belive that there is some gems here. also the 1st round will have alot also. do we talk to the lions and make a deal because at what cost would the lions like to get out of the 2nd pick. could we get a real dt if we did this? i say ya and we should do this!

by sports with steve on Mar 15, 2010 11:12 AM PDT reply actions

if we can deal with the lions 1st round pick!!!!!!!!!!

first find out what the lions would do to get out of the 2nd pick. then keep your 8th pick and maybe send rhoutt, 2nd round and a 3rd or 5th round to the lions. then we can get a d tackle and a lb or o tackle. lions need cbs so why not rhoutt and get the pick from the lions

by sports with steve on Mar 16, 2010 12:36 PM PDT up reply actions

  1. They do need CBs, but they also need the 1st round pick.
  2. They need a DT the most.
  3. If we give them our 2nd and 3rd rounder, we’ll only have a 1st(lions), 4th, and so on. that trade is not worth it at all since we have many needs to fill.

by patriotguy on Mar 16, 2010 2:30 PM PDT up reply actions

If we trade down in the 1st we can get a DT, ILB & an OT

if we trade with Jacksonville at 10 we can acquire McClain before the Donks get him. Move the picks a bit, pick up a guy like Bruce Campbell or Trent Williams late in the first & then pick up Cam Thomas possibly in the 2nd or another solid DT in the 3rd.

by TAW on Mar 15, 2010 3:27 PM PDT reply actions

What about a QB.?

i was kinda thinking of Levi Brown from Troy. Good build, strong arm, fairly accurate, and is relatively calm under pressure, and fairly elusive too… we should get him in the 3rd or hopefully 4th.

1st Round- Trent Williams

2nd Round- a good DT, hopefully Price

by ButtMunch on Mar 15, 2010 5:11 PM PDT reply actions

Theres 2 QB's Id be OK with taking in the 3rd-4th Rd.

Dan LeFeavour
Jarret Brown

Both have great potential and a year on the bench under a good QB would do them alot

In Bruce We Trust

by Remix. on Mar 15, 2010 5:24 PM PDT up reply actions

I can live with that

Yeah they seem pretty good… well i hope they eventually draft a QB, just in case Gradowski isnt as good as we thought he was and to give more incentive to get rid of Russell

by ButtMunch on Mar 15, 2010 5:51 PM PDT reply actions

well....

Dan LeFeavour’s arm is kinda iffy… doesnt have a big strong arm the Raiders like…

Where has that big strong arm got us?

Its time for change, Accuracy and leadership trumps the massive arm

Oh no doubt but an arm would be nice… I agree accuracy over arm. im not saying draft a player with a cannon (we already have one idiot like that) but one with a bit of both.

Is Al so ruthless that after Cable invests in another backpack (and replaces the jelly-donut stained one) that Al would

bring in Chucky and have him junk the ZBS and nstall the Power Blocking scheme and convert back to the 3-4 defense???

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 15, 2010 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Ummm

Under Chucky, they had a zone blocking scheme. See Callahan, Bill and the NY Jets. While we never should have made him a head coach, the guy is tits as a OL Coach (Callahan, that is. Jury’s still out on Cable.)

I don’t remember the Raiders ever running a 3-4…

by transparent58 on Mar 17, 2010 8:08 AM PDT up reply actions

an example of Raiders winning the SB with 3-4 defense

Super Bowl XI:

Injuries early in the season forced the Raiders to switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense. The switch benefited the team, as they won their last 10 games and finished the regular season with the best record in the league, 13-1. The Raiders defense was anchored by great linebackers, such as Phil Villapiano and Ted Hendricks, while defensive end Otis Sistrunk anchored the defensive line. Their defensive secondary was extremely hard hitting and talented, led by safeties Jack Tatum, George Atkinson, cornerback Skip Thomas and cornerback Willie Brown.

by Spirals galore on Mar 17, 2010 9:06 AM PDT up reply actions

Only problem

is personnel. We don’t have a legit NT…and we certainly don’t have the type of secondary.

Thanks for the info though. I’m a relative neophyte when it comes to schemes from the 70’s and 80’s. I didn’t hone my X and O fetish until the early to mid 90s.

by transparent58 on Mar 17, 2010 9:18 AM PDT up reply actions

The team didn't play a 3-4 under Chucky.

The cover 2/ some man-to-man the 1st year under Willie Shaw actually was the best production Woodson ever gave us (5 ints & a td). We all know how it worked in Tampa 1st hand…ugh. I also like the ZBS considering this team has one of the weaker O-lines in terms of personell, normally has a passing offense ranked in the bottom of the league, until now has a 3 headed RB situation & still manages to average over 100 yds rushing since Cable & Kiffen arrived 3 years ago. So I say if this team can continue to improve in the passing game with Gradkowski the ZBS will be successful.
