2010 Raiders Mock Draft... pretty please...

This is what I think our 2010 Draft should look like... let me know what you think...

Round 1: Trent Williams OT, Oklahoma

We need a RT and Trent Williams is our best option. He has great instincts and can play the run as well as the pass AND he can play both RT or LT. Many of the other OT can only play LT and we have 2 LT's already competing for the Job, Henderson and Barnes, since he was misplaced at RT. Great athletic ability and great vision and very versitile. The Raiders need that.

Round 2: Brian Price DT, UCLA or Terrance Cody DT, Alabama

I would love to take Price in the second round, not only because i am a UCLA fan but what he can offer. Yes he is a smaller DT but he is very quick and will be the next Warren Sapp. Problem is a lot of mock drafts have him gone at the bottom of the first. That's why i was thinking Cody. He is almost a complete opposite of Price. This is a big ass dude. He will collapse the middle and RB's will not want to come thru there. Not only that but he is a big ass dude.! What does that mean.? More attention. Last year Seymour had a hard time during many games because he was well known so he was double teamed. With more than one disruption at the line will open up Seymour's play a whole lot. Plus he can play NT which many Raider fans including me would like them to switch to a 3-4 defense again.

Round 3: Pat Angerer MLB, Iowa

I believe he will be the better choice to draft in the 3rd because we need an MLB. Angerer is a bit undersized but can still make plays. He is tough and has great instincts. He is also a bit of a leader which is a must at MLB. He isnt easily confused with misderection and trick plays which seems to mess with the defense a lot. He is also a solid open field tackler which has also been a problem and could help us out.

Round 4: Dan LeFevour QB, Central Michigan

Obviously the QB situation in Oakland isnt a very happy one. Thankfully we did re-sign Gradowski an he will be competing for the starting job but is he really our QB for the future.? And of course we have Jamarcus Russell who many consider a big fat BUST. Btw i am no longer a Russell suporter after the Jets game last season but i am really really REALLY hoping he puts down the Twinkie and picks up a freakin football! LeFevour is a good project for the Raiders. 4 year starter and a strong competitor which is definately needed. Very accurate and very smart decision maker which are ALL the qualities Russell lacks right now. He doesnt have a huge arm and his deep ball is kinda wobly which is unraider like but that might actually work in our favor. DHB is a tall and fast WR who can really jump and can probably catch the ball better in the air then off a short route.

Round 5-7: Not really sure

I'd like to draft the best CB, OG, and WR/KR/PR. I was almost thinking of Jacoby Ford who had the fastest 40 time and is short but can be very illusive and can return kicks which our's sucked ass last season but i doubt he'd be availiable in the 5th round.

So thats what i think we need. Tell me what you think.

like the draft, but...

there’s a 30% chance that Price makes it to the second round. I think we should get Linval Joseph or Cam Thomas after the 2nd round.

I would gladly

switch your first and second pick. I truly think we need a defensive lineman before we need a OT. Not only that, but I like Iupati much more better.

Who

It is more likely Al Davis’ mock draft will include OT Bruce Campbell.

by Mallard Davis on Mar 16, 2010 3:01 PM PDT reply actions

NO.!

i know… i really really hope not.. he is a project… yes he has great physical attributes to the position but so does DHB, McFadden, and of course our beloved Russell… and none of them turned out to be impact players so far.

unless we draft him in the second then that would be okay i think.

by ButtMunch on Mar 16, 2010 5:05 PM PDT up reply actions

It will be Campbell

Though I’d much rather have a more polished LT Campbell will be the guy. Taking gifted athletes is Al’s MO. Unfortunately, he doesn’t retain the coaching staff to develop those athletes into great football players.

When we drafted Art Shell and Gene Upshaw, we had John Madden coaching up the OL. Though I think Cable is a step in the right direction, we need to retain him and the parts of his staff he’s been allowed to pick for at least three seasons to really see any impact.

Gallery, by most accounts, should have been a dominant LT. Running through 4 line coaches early in his career stunted his growth. JaPukeus is entering fourth season, and will be breaking in his 3rd play caller. How many OCs has Peyton Manning had?

Russell
[…] i am really really REALLY hoping he puts down the Twinkie and picks up a freakin football!

He can take his snack cakes and get out of the state, but not before giving some of his salary to help the education problems facing California!

Pretty good besides the 2nd Rd.

I dislike Terrence Cody alot, Hes too fat and will take off ALOT of plays and Brian Price most likely wont be there

by Remix. on Mar 16, 2010 4:12 PM PDT reply actions

Price & LeFevoure will be gone way before where you have them going

& I think Tent Williams would be a reach at 8. Anthony Davis may be the best available at #8 after Okung since Bulaga seems like another Gallery clone & Campbell is a workout freak but doesn’t seem like the real deal yet as a football player. Angerer seems to be good prospect but he’s 235 which seems way too undersized for a MLB. We need some mass especially since our run defense is always among the worst every year he may be a liability. Also Cam Thomas may be the better prospect in the 2nd instead of Terrence Cody who reminds me of Jafatturd except heavier. Rd 1- Anthony Davis OT, Rd 2- Cam Thomas DT, Rd 3- Eric Olsen C, Rd 4- LB Phillip Dillard or S/CB Myron Rolle

by TAW on Mar 16, 2010 4:23 PM PDT reply actions

Cam Thomas seems good

I like him too… i disagree with Anthony Davis though… he is a LT and we have 2 decent LT’s, we need a RT and Davis seems a bit sluggish. Williams is fast, can play both LT and RT, and he’s smart. I mean he used to be a part of the best offensive line in the NCAA two years ago, he had to learn something.

by ButtMunch on Mar 16, 2010 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I think having Davis challenge Barnes & Henderson for the starting LT job would be best.

Think about it. Don’t just hand somebody the job. Also prove Cable is good accessor of talent & O-line knowledge by giving the job to the best guy. Also I think moving Henderson to RT if he loses the job to the rookie seems like a more comfortable fit for him. Overall our O-line is improved & we don’t have to see Doc B limping off the field or a damn QB carousel in the Denver game at the end of the year.

by TAW on Mar 16, 2010 6:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Pretty please no Brian Price. He helps us in no real way. He’s a UT, and we already have two quality UT’s with Bryant and Kelly.

We need a damned NT to stop the run so the quality UT’s we have can do what their best at, pass rush.

No Brian Price, no Gerald McCoy, no UT’s

who do you have in mind.?

by ButtMunch on Mar 16, 2010 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions

He's right. I love Brian Price, but he can't play NT in this league

He’ll be a solid UT for at least a decade, and will be rushing and sacking qbs, but not the right guy for the team. See my post on NTs. It’s what we need to succeed, right away. A guy to absorb two blockers consistently to free up the other tackle, both ends, and whatever other lb, safety, or corner you should want to bring.

yeah I read it

i just hope we get a good DT. I really like the idea about a NT im just hoping the draft one. I really hope they switch to 3-4 and actually if you think about it they might. I mean look, we only have a couple DL’s and a group of LB’s… its logical to make the switch now since we more talent in our LB’s.

by ButtMunch on Mar 17, 2010 12:17 AM PDT up reply actions

This front four will excel if we get a difference maker to play nose, whether we go 4-3 or 3-4

but the latest moves certainly suggest a possibility of going 3-4, though I think this 4-3 will be quite disruptive enough if we get the NT and upgrade the MLB position.

by ButtMunch on Mar 17, 2010 2:54 PM PDT up reply actions

If fans had unfluence on the Teams decisions,

Every team would be ran straight into the ground. This is why Madden has a franchise mode, and a option to turn the salary cap off and on. Running an NFL team may be one of the harder things to do in the sports world,. Us football fans are hungry for wins and severly pissed when we dont get what we want. Ecspecially here in Oakland

ESPECIALLY here.

i agree but maybe to give good ideas like in the draft in stuff… if it was a fans decision we’d be in the shitter but like i mean influence as in like open there eyes about certain players they might not have paid attention too. of course the coaches know more than we do i mean, the big thing for me if i were drafting a player is the interview. you need to choose the players that are more willing to strive to want to be the best, who show leadership, who show that football means more than flashing cameras, girls, and money.

DT in RD 2

Cam Thomas or Joseph maybe even Cody or take Troup in the 3rd
Still don’t like an OT in rd 1 and still hoping for Haden or McClain (crones and all) with or 8th

by S-n-B4life on Mar 17, 2010 4:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Like Joseph a lot, not enough film on Cam Thomas and he had a huge supporting cast at NC-CH (like Penns host of LBs)

they mostly gang tackle. Don’t want Cody or Troup (both too soft) and McClain will go Deep South on us – I’ve watched a lot of film of him and he often quits (trails at jogging pace) on plays as though assuming someone else has it under control. If the play is happening in his area of responsibility he does very well. He’s not really hungry for combat. I reject him as suitable.

Looks like it could be sealed. Seems as if Cleveland might be looking past Haden

and he apparently ran in the high 4.3s by most times at his FLA pro-day today. He all but sealed the deal he’s coming to us. I’ll be fine with this as long as DT is the next pick, in Thomas or Joseph, and the next pick is a late round tackle in Sam Young, or even Campbell if he’s there.

In Gainesville, when Haden was asked who he was talking to he said, S.F. and Cleveland

why do you believe that Cleveland will look past Haden? Especially with an improved 40 (4.4) at pro-day?

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 18, 2010 1:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Just hearing they're looking at other guys, possibly even Bradford or Clausen, and I'm not sure what Holmgren has in mind

nothing concrete yet, but it’s just something I hadn’t considered at all, and believe if Haden were there, that it’s likely Al will take him. Hoping I’m wrong and the DT is the first pick.

Only like the third pick so far

Not to sure about what OTs or NTs I would want just yet, but I will say that our biggest concern should be about getting a real NT somehow.

For your seventh you should scratch in John Conner FB. He is a beast of a lead blocker and would clear the way for Bush and DMC.

i forgot we dont really have a FB… well O’Neal cant seem to stay healthy but yeah thats a good idea.

can he block.?

he seems more of a receiving FB than blocking.

by ButtMunch on Mar 16, 2010 5:46 PM PDT up reply actions

A receiving FB would be awesome in my opinion

Ecspecially when you have a QB who doesnt have that “big” arm to throw to WR’s all the time. Having a FB to drop the ball of to for 5-8 yards wouldnt be so bad. But Id like for him to be able to block as well

In Bruce We Trust

by Remix. on Mar 16, 2010 6:37 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah thats what i mean

obviously a FB who can catch would be great but whats more important is if he can block. Our run offense hasnt been strong and we are a run offense team and we can use all the good blocking we can get.

by ButtMunch on Mar 16, 2010 6:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Bush had stints at fb...

He has hands and can block, if we needed that option on a play… We could always draft a blocking fb if there was one that good or convert a lb in the depth which seems more likely given the fact that we’ve never been big on fb’s

Not lately we haven't ... but in the past we had some of the best FBs ever: Marv Hubbard, Hewitt Dixon and Mark Van Eeghen these guys

were smash-mouth players hard hitting great blockers. Remember that Bo Jackson came in as an FB too and played that position his first two years with Allen at RB. So we had some great FBs – but not lately.

Still, what great Raider team didn’t have a great Fullback? … or Center for that matter?

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 17, 2010 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions

I'd rather go for Tonga from BYU

as a FA, who is essentially the same, loves to block, and has got some hands.

With that 7th we could pick up Chris Degeare for left side rotational depth if we don’t go for Ciron Black.

Degeare has solid experience on the left side, is projected to go to the 7th, and is nice and big, with nice knockdown numbers.

Or if Ulatoski drops down that far, snag him for right-side rotation: He’s played both left and right tackle positions, is smart, big, and could be the Raiders corporate spokesperson when he retires -He has his degree in corporate communications.

by xville on Mar 16, 2010 9:26 PM PDT up reply actions

What about a Corner.?

does anyone really want to draft a corner.? not too long ago we were talking about our hopes that Routt could ride the bench and not play so much since he cant cover anyone. what about a CB hopefully good enough to take over Routt’s position.

by ButtMunch on Mar 17, 2010 12:23 AM PDT reply actions

That guy's already on the roster

Mike Mitchell will be our nickle back by week 4. The only reason I can see Routt getting that crazy tender is because someone thinks he can be the legit RCB. He pushed for the starting job in training camp last year. Mitchell is big and fast and physical, so he may even challenge for the starting job.

Remember, Nnamdi was a lightly regarded safety from Cal…

by transparent58 on Mar 17, 2010 7:46 AM PDT up reply actions

i hope so

i REALLY dont like Routt… I was soooo pissed off by Routt’s tender… i was happy he was in his final year to only resign him with the highest tender.? you nuts.!
i really hope Mitchell takes over his spot… PLEASE.! Because Huff and especially Branch are great.

by ButtMunch on Mar 17, 2010 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions

I know Mitchell is wating for Huff to slip up

Because Mitchell will come in and crack heads and make grown men cry! I really like Mitchell, I just dont feel he can switch to playing CB. Hes a hard hitter who belongs at a safety position. I think we should trade Huff for another 3rd and use that pick for DL or OL

In Bruce We Trust

by Remix. on Mar 17, 2010 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

hmmm...

idk.. I like Mitchell but is he ready to start.? and Huff has improved alot this past season… before id say to get rid of him but not he kinda like sneaks up on you sometimes which is what i like… I know what you mean about Mitchell though… i dont really see him as a CB, but in the nickel or playing zone coverage i can see him crack mothertruckers left and right.

by ButtMunch on Mar 17, 2010 3:38 PM PDT up reply actions

not MLB?

I think he can play the position well, and it would add versatility to our defense.

by patriotguy on Mar 17, 2010 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

I just dont think he is the type of player who can provide

a hard hit without a running start though. Thats why he was so great a safety. Cause he had a running chance at people or people running full speed in his direction

In Bruce We Trust

by Remix. on Mar 17, 2010 6:27 PM PDT up reply actions

I know he's got the speed

to play corner. And we need another big, fast, and physical corner to compliment Nnamdi. Press coverage is all about the first five yards and disrupting the routes. It’s what Lester Hayes did…

I honestly believe Al sees Mitchell as his RCB/Nickel back..

by transparent58 on Mar 18, 2010 8:49 AM PDT up reply actions

Great Post

Very solid pic’s. I would be happy with it. But people underestimate the center position, and I feel Stale is too undersized. For that reason, I hope our second rounder is J.D. Walton, Center Baylor, 6-3/300. He’s an intelligent guy who’s a road grader. Jeff Owens in rd 4 fills a need at DT

idk about a Center so high up

its true there isnt much emphasis on our C position. but our DL needs alot more help then our C position… plus remember during the season when Russell had all those fumbles.. they ALL came from the outside not the middle.

Agreed

But without Suh there are no grantees. even with Suh, we don’t have a MLB that is stout against the run(Ray lewis,Junior Seau, Zack Thomas, ect). At this point I think our best option is to keep our defense fresh and build an offensive line that can move the chains and score in the red zone.

But there are plenty of LB's who can easily suceed with us in rounds 2-5

There are also a few OT’s in those rounds as well. So far, I would only spend our 8 pick on these guys

Not sure

I think he might be overrated. From what Ive seen on tape, Hes nothing close to Suh. Suh just absolutley dominates the game. Something rare from the DT posistion. I keep hearing that McCoy isnt as fierce as Suh as well, and if Im taking a DT in the Top 10, I want him to be on mean son of a bitch

In Bruce We Trust

by Remix. on Mar 17, 2010 8:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he'd make a great DE - very quick and good technique, strong pass rusher but

sometimes loses track of where the ball is and gets into the game within the game occasionally with the opponent o-lineman. I don’t know either. I think Suh’s better and wonder why they’re ranked about even.
Tiebow beat him 24-14 if that means anything.

McCoy would be a good DE in a 3-4 System

Suh is just gonna be that DT that completly changed the game for a whole decade. I thinks hes gonna enforce his will from day 1
