The Off Season-Rate our rivals (part 1)
I can see we are all not in agreement when it comes to the Raiders off season progress. According to Saints article, there are fans that give the Raiders an "A" so far, and and some that give them an "F". Now I think these grades may be a little based on anger and/or blind faith and hope, and the true "grade" lies somewhere in the middle. While our team has been making moves by trading for a good player in Wimbley, and cutting a lot of dead weight at the same time, our rivals have been trying to improve themselves as well.
Let us start with the Denver Broncos.
Josh McDaniels came into Denver last year and made waves immediately by trading away the franchise in Jay Cutler and distancing himself from the other main star player Brandon Marshall (soon to be wearing a Seahawks uniform). The trade of Cutler to the Bears made the football world stare blankly at the television in shock. McDaniels swaggered into town, younger than a lot of the fans and even some players, and shipped out the next John Elway. This guy looked like a total jackass, the team was gutted, and the future looked bleak. Most predictions put these guys at 2-4 wins, and a last place finish in the AFC west. Instead, they shot off to an astounding start after one miracle (and madden like move) by Brandon Stokley vs the Bungles. Only to collapse in the second half of the season and return this ship to earth where it belonged. The D was good, but the offense was all over the place and lacked constancy. The Jekyll and Hyde syndrome, aka, the Kyle Orton Effect.
Now, the Broncos have done little so far in the off season. They resigned players like Josh Barrett SS, and Brandon Lloyd WR, but have cut some dead weight as well. Casualties include Chris Simms, Andra Davis LB, J'Von Parker DT, Mitch Erikson G, and Kenny Peterson DE (there are more, but not worth noting). They also trade away Peyton Hillis, a RB whose future looked bright from time to time. In this trade, they bring in a QB that could have just as well been sporting the silver and black. He was crowned the most NFL ready QB coming out of the Notre Dame offense (Clausen fans beware), and we passed on him and CALVIN FREAKING JOHNSON to take none other than Jamarcus Russel. Now we will get to see Brady Quinn two times a year as he rocks that putrid orange and blue jersey. I hope this does not come back to haunt us (I'm sure it will). The other key acquisitions for the Broncos are Jamal Williams, Jarvis Green, and JJ Arrington. Nothing too noteworthy or shocking.
I give the Broncos a solid C so far. Nothing has been done that will return this team to a contender, but nothing too insane or crippling has been done either (see this time last year). Moves or no moves, we need to keep this team directly in our sights, Josh McDaniels is a crafty guy, and can make a dollar out of fifteen cents.

Jamal Williams could either be the NT they desperately needed last year, or just a stop-gap solution. Their offseason thus far is hinged on how he plays in my mind.
As for Quinn, I’m not too worried. Mainly because Orton should be the starter. Meaning Quinn still has a couple more years before getting a shot. I don’t think anybody can ride the bench that long and be successful (even Kerry Collins only did it for a year in Tennessee)
Evey- "Are you a crazy person?"
V- "I'm quite sure they'll say so."
V for Vendetta, blowing your mind away since 2005.
Williams as we know was on injured reserve last year.
So I don’t think he can be at 60-70% of his usual production. If anything, he would probably rotate with the other DTs on their roster, and McDaniels will put him in in certain situations.
I’d like to see more of quinn, although it’s very likely he won’t start. I want to see what he can do with an offense that are not the browns, and how he interacts with coaches not named mangina(of course there are the other coaches). I think McDaniels is the best QB coach in the league, and if anyone can help quinn, it’s him.
Other than that, he’s just a non-existent part for this year(assuming he’s a 3rd string). And like you said, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
I don't know why we're talking about this garbage team but hey their new logo rocks lol

I voted C but ...
I wanted to vote F the Broncos.
I’m not worried about Quinn either if he’s not good enough for Holmgren.
I’d much rather focus on the Raiders getting this team so strong that it doesn’t matter what the fucking Broncos do.

j-man! Nice to hear from ya bro!
I’ll be honest, I was quite worried when I saw that you guys grabbed Brady. Denver has a good recieving core and a powerful O-Line. Both are keys to developing a young QB

Most likely the age discrimination rampant in Oakland these days plus Ellis does have a bum knee and his $3 million+/yr
salary. Also, we brought in a guy named Kam Wimbley who, supposedly, will put more pressure on QBs than Greg did – even though Ellis had more sacks than Wimbley over the past 2 years. I like Greg Ellis.

wimbley was out of position for 2 years
according to what i’ve read about him. His first year when he was at the DE he had a pretty good year. It was eric mangina’s 3-4 that moved him to OLB and he suffered, much like tyler brayton did when he was in the 3-4.

i'm thinkin the injuries
plus the emergence of trevor scott and matt shaughnessy made him expendable

we should have got williams
if nothing else he is a runstopper and could rotate with kelly and bryant

They guy will probablyonly play 8 games if that
…he’s old and injury prone. Remember we put him out, along with a bunch of other chargers, in week one.
Cable Bumaye! Raiders Bumaye!
very true, but...
i would rather have an older vet rotating with kelly and bryant than some unproven rookie unless, of course, that rookie is Suh.

as for quinn
i find him overrated. ND qb’s arent what they used to be. see rick mirer, clausen (who will be a career backup like all the clausens are)

Grades are much better suited for when we can actually place judgment on these moves
and more importantly their effects on the overall improvement of the team, or lack thereof.
That said, I like that we remained fairly quiet on the FA front. Brady’s probably not a bad move for Denver, but that, like the implications of all of these other moves, remains to be seen.
