TCU's OT Nic Richmond to work out for the Raiders on Monday?

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source-Richmond-working-out-for-Raiders-on-Monday.html

TCU offensive tackle Nic Richmond will participate in a private workout for the Oakland Raiders on Monday, according to a league source.

Here is an assessment of Nic:

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/front-office-total-access-stats.html&position=ot&startrow=20

A massive right tackle prospect with a huge wingspan and a thick upper body but a thin-looking lower half, Richmond lacks ideal awareness off the snap and struggles to get off the ball on time. He exhibits above-average flexibility for his size and can coil up surprisingly well in his stance. But he displays long, lumbering footwork and struggles to reach the edge in the pass game and to redirect with any kind of fluidity in space. He demonstrates some natural power in the run game to seal and stick to blocks, but struggles to keep his base down and get into blocks quickly as an in-line guy.

Sounds like a bust

with a weak lower body. That doesn’t seem like a great pass-protecting prospect if you ask me.

by TAW on Mar 20, 2010 10:15 AM PDT reply actions

It's concerning hearing weak lower body and OT in the same sentence

I don’t know anything about this guy. Have we brought in anybody else for a workout or is this the first one (draftwise)?

I never heard of him,so I went on Walterfootball.com

and they listed 38 OTs from #1 Okung all the way down to probably undrafted freeagent prospects and nowhere did I see Nic Richmond out of TCU

by rambis64 on Mar 20, 2010 4:44 PM PDT reply actions

listed 38 o tackles and not there??????????????

sounds like we have more o tackles to look at than this guy

by sports with steve on Mar 20, 2010 7:02 PM PDT up reply actions

heyrambis64 can you please list the top 38 tackles?

i and everyone else would to to see who is there. richmond not in the top 38 ot’s then why are we looking at him?

by sports with steve on Mar 23, 2010 6:19 PM PDT up reply actions

it's possible we are not looking at him at all

either someone else at TCU or this is just one leg of a longer trip?

by Spirals galore on Mar 23, 2010 6:32 PM PDT up reply actions

No

Sadly, it’s going to be Taylor Mays.

Either way

what a waste. We could have Eugene Monroe right now and not even worry about the OT position.

Agreed

Not only him, we also could have had Michael Oher.

Yea

Or BJ Raji, or any number of other players. Or we could have traded down and got other picks, then took Heyward “what’s a football” Bey around the 20 spot.

Yeah well, Jamarcus was rated highly and look where that got us

DHB has worked his ass off to get better. And he will be much better this year with Jackson on board.

Don’t worry, we don’t have that many years left with Al running the show

Haven’t heard that nickname yet.

i'd much rather see brandon carter

if for no other reason than he’s a nasty psycho. We need a filthy guy like schlereth was for the broncos. Right now with maybe the exception of Gallery our o-line is too meek.

should we get both?

1.Iupati 2.Angerer 3.Carter? I like that draft thought

by angelesoterica on Mar 21, 2010 8:55 PM PDT up reply actions

we would have to trade up to get Suh

and Iupati wont be there in the second. so who do we trade? If we trade it will be with Detroit or Tampa Bay. I read the Nnamdi for Suh article and wondered if there would be another way. Bush, Morrison and a 3rd for either one’s pick would be okay as long as we get a grinder back in the late rounds. DeMaundray Woolridge from Idaho is out of school i think and will be there in the 7th

assume it does come true

draft day would be 1.Suh 1. Iupati 2.Angerer 4. Mays. I like this idea!!

I dont like him either

but i figured I’d throw Al a bonehead pick. If we don’t pick him in the first 3 rounds I wont care if we draft him. Mitchell will be our 3rd corner after week 4 anyways so whats the harm?

There is no way in hell we get 2 first rounders

lions will not give up their pick unless we give them asomugha. Not to mention we’ll be paying a s**tload of money for just those 2 guys.

He won't work out for us, after his workout with us

a waste of time… Was he fast at the combine or something?

Tremendous school and football program

that produces many NFL ready athletes. That said, I don’t like this prospect. This is another Mario Henderson guy, who’s a developmental left tackle at best. He’d get schooled by the best defensive ends and tackles in the league. Owned.

What I'm suggesting is that the trip to Fort Worth to see Nic Richmond was a smoke screen / pretext and we really

sent an agent down there to look at TCU’s Jerry Hughes DE/OLB 6’2" 256 (now that Ellis is gone and Wimbley is charted at OLB) and/or TCU’s OLB Darryl Washington – both these Horny Toads are projected in the 2nd round. Also, there’s a 3rd Round TCU G, Marshall Newhouse whose 6’4" 319 who ran a 5.0 40! So, it’s very likely that this non-entity – Nic Richmond – wasn’t the reason to visit TCU at all.

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 22, 2010 7:26 PM PDT up reply actions

was it at tcu?

i saw nothing to indicate so. if it was i buy the smokescreen argument.

Interesting.

Jerry Hughes sounds more like a 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 DE. He’s one of those guys whos probably gonna have to make the switch

would not at all be surprised by ulterior motives, and the ability to kill multiple birds with one stone

with this workout. but I thought he was being brought in for a workout?

Sam Young, maybe?

Al knows Weis, who has a pretty good idea about who this kid is.

that was before I read her link

not sure about this Newhouse kid. I think there’s a reason 12 other tackles are projected ahead of him, and though they’re certainly not all correct, I’d still prefer we took chances on a higher projected guy either first or second.

You and I both know it’ll probably be Haden, but if not him, who? I’d like Dan Williams. Even Iupati, though I don’t see him being a strong tackle for at least a few years, and I believe we need to get better this year, preferably a guy who can win the left side.

Cable spilled his guts a little today and what shook out indicates that Morrison and Howard may be gone

I don’t believe Ricky Brown will be our starting MLB, so we’re taking one in the 1st 2 or 3 rounds – please not McClain (I’ve done a 180 on him after watching all the film I could find). The odds are high for CB given that Al loves them and there is arguably a significant need after CJ and Routt’s general efforts last season. True, our pass rush made CJ look worse than he really is (Routt doesn’t look too great under ideal conditions). I suspect Cable wants to get Iupati to replace the aging (aging and mediocre) Carlisle and is going up against Al who wants Haden who improved his 40 at pro-day.

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 23, 2010 7:22 PM PDT up reply actions

A bit clearer picture is emerging as the draft draws near

and more will come out. I wouldn’t judge too much by Cable’s spilled guts. His cup runneth over, after all. More smoke and mirrors for now.

I suspect he's become Herrera's replacement as the new minister of propaganda

And he’s always been able to stand and deliver canned formulas, bland truisms and hackneyed cliche’s in public without feeling the slightest embarrassment. So his remarks about Khalif Barnes and Erik Pears yesterday or his statements suggesting where Wimbley or Scott would be positioned should be viewed as self-serving pre-draft rhetoric. If for no other reason, Al must appreciate Cable’s willingness and ability (albeit awkward) to not say anything that might give opponents an edge against us.

not this time

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Source-Richmond-to-visit-Chargers-Raiders.html

At this point, you have to figure the Raiders have some serious interest in the 22-year-old senior. The fact that the organization scheduled a meeting with Richmond in Oakland just one day after working him out in Texas clearly indicates the team sees something they like.
