The Black Hole 77 Mock Draft
Just kind of messing around with different thoughts and scenarios. This draft is assuming Cpt. Kirk is gone and we get a 3 back for him.
1. Anthony Davis OT - Rutgers
Great strength, size and length with long arms. Excellent footwork with very good quickness and agility for a man his size (6'6" 330lbs). Plays with very good balance while displaying tenacity and power. Keeps his feet moving and is a very good run blocker. Has played on a solid offensive line throughout college and he has been the anchor. Inconsistent technique and questionable work ethic and character. Ran a 5.38 at the combine with 21 reps on the bench
2. Brian Price DT - UCLA
Tied for 2nd in the country with 22.5 TFL - which shows his ability to get into the backfield. Very quick first step and excellent lateral quickness. Plays the run well and can play in a 4-3 or 3-4. Plays too high at times and needs to work on his conditioning - he disappears in the 4th quarter and wears down. Ran a 5.13 at the combine with 34 reps on the bench
3. Pat Angerer MLB - Iowa
Extremely productive in college - 242 tackles in 2 yrs as a starter. Excellent in pass coverage. Solid run stopper. High character with a good work ethic. Questionable speed and explosion.
3. Jevan Snead QB Mississippi
Great arm strength and mobility. Nice size (6'3" 215lbs). Played in a pro-style offense in college. Needs to improve his accuracy and decision making. Inconsistent at times but is still developing.
4. Jordan Shipley WR Texas
Works best out of the slot, great possession receiver, finds holes over the middle and sits in them, very good route runner, change of direction speed after the catch is a plus. Looks balls in before making a move, effective as a return man. Will not run by pro corners, does not have game changing speed, has not really played against the jam, will need to get his upper body stronger to come out of jams at the line of scrimmage.
5. C.J. Wilson DE East Carolina
Good upper body strength to work the tackle, stacks and sheds well in run defense, nice balance and footwork, uses his spin move well, consistent tackler. Needs to improve getting off blocks, problems dealing with double team, lacks elite speed to get around the corner.
6. No Pick
7. Javarris James RB Miami
Strong runner and excellent receiver out of the backfield. Great in pass protection. Good short yardage back - always seems to fall forward for positive yardage. Quick feet, nice vision and shows good patience. Didn't put up impressive #'s in college and always split time with other backs.
7. Alterraun Verner CB UCLA.
Good speed and change of direction, dependable open field tackler, locates the ball well, times his jumps, good anticipation and breaks on the ball well, good one-on-one defender. Lacks some size, trouble with stopping the run, does not have blow away speed.
Just some thoughts addressing some needs. Thoughts, comments, concerns.....

General Mock Draft Thoughts
When I look at mock drafts, I don’t really care what specific players you guys are mentioning. It’s all about the positions for me and taking a quarterback and a wide receiver, especially that high, aren’t good ideas. We have so many other pressing needs.
A quarterback is something we don’t need because if Gradkowski flames or whatever, just take a quarterback next year or look for other options at the time. Call teams or look at free agency. Drafting a wide receiver isn’t a good idea because we have Johnnie Lee Higgins who is going to be better than guys available in the third and fourth round and we still have to see what we can get out of Darrius Heyward-Bey. We’d be clogging the position. Stick to cornerback, middle linebacker, defensive tackle, defensive end, offensive tackle and offensive guard. After that, then do we can look at other things after the fifth round. There’s just no reason to take a quarterback or a wide receiver before the sixth round. Swap out the quarterback and wide receiver for a defensive end and cornerback. That defensive end in the fifth round can go to towards a center or an offensive guard, two positions we’re not deep in.

+1
We generally cant draft a QB anyhow so why bother. The needs are the trenches, LB (OL/ILB), secondary.
We have so many wide receivers why draft another? Murphy, Higgins and Schilens will do the trick given the chance.
Take a flyer on someone in the 7th on a QB if there is a project player left there.

I had an idea but idk how to post one
like have a survey for every round and see who we think we should pick in certain rounds…
First 3 rounds are okay in this mock but then we don't see a CB until round 7!
Also, WR and RB are ill advised choices (as R-R-S indicated) based on much greater need. Same goes for QB and DE, but to a lesser degree, we don’t need them nearly as much at a DT, OT, MLB, and CB … after that I’d go for a G and FB.
I wouldn't mind a very late round RB choice...
to my knowledge we do not have a 3rd string running back… I’d welcome a 6th/7th round choice to bring into camp
Kind of wanted to switch it up a little....
Seemed as if every Mock I was seeing looked like a replica so I threw out some different ideas. I think Snead would be a good second option to Jamarcus continuing his bust status and Gradkowski not being the answer for years to come. I unlike many see Grad as a stop gap, not the long term answer. As far as Shipley, we have a plethora of receivers but none that can go over the middle consistently and fill that hole in the middle. The James pick was due to the fact that I would love to see Bush be the feature back with D-Mac playing a Reggie Bush type role. James can pound it and would also be nice on the goal line. I also don’t see CB as being as glaring a need to draft someone in the 4th-5th round range when players like William Gay, Anthony Henry, Nick Harper etc. that could hold us over until next year. Like I said though, just wanted to switch it up. Thanks for looking it over.
Brian Price would be the 4th starting caliber 3 technique Defensive Tackle on this team.
Anthony Davis, scares the hell out of me. No motivation and poor work ethic. Way over rated but less so then Bruce Campbell. Could I live with Davis, yes but Trent and Bulaga are light years ahead of him as far as immediate impact at the next level.
Snead? Come now.
CJ Wilson would be the 4th quality Base End for us as well, we need pass rushers.

we also have 2 5th round picks.

quarterback in the third
i would much rather take dan lefevour hes a much better quarter back and is the exact opposite of jacantthrowtheballbecauseapplebeesishavingabuffet russel (opposite of russel is good)
Angerer
is on every ones third round mock. He will not be there people, not going to happen.
"We can't stop here... This is bat country."
Yeah
I was wondering about that. He is rated way higher and will be gone in the 2nd round latest.
He is going to be something.

He seems way over valued on this site.
He struggles with the trenches and gets neutralized by up the field blocks more then my liking for a guy taken this early. Plus the need for a MLB still should be behind at least 5 maybe 6 other positions as far as priority. With Morrison still on the team the rankings should be
RT
NT
RG
CB
RE (pass rusher)
C
MLB
I could see maybe if Morrison was gone, but he’s not. And to think Mr. Davis is going to let him go for a 3rd rounder rather then bait someone into putting a bid on him and thereby matching the offer is pretty foolish at the least. Even if that were to happen Jamar Chaney would probably be the guy Mr. Davis would take if he was thinking a new MLB for the Raiders or a guy like Donald Butler. Love Angerer’s intensity but similar to Howard, he can have all the intensity in the world but if he can’t hang with G’s and C’s, I don’t see the value in him.

With those rankings for needs
Notice that in our first 5 needs, only 2 of those positions are ones which fit top 10 material as far as Draft prospects. That is actually a very good thing for the Raiders.
1. CB Joe Haden
2. DE Derrick Morgan
3. Trade with the Eagles to Get McNabb and then with #24 look at CB Devin McCourty, DE Everson Griffen, or RT Anthony Davis.

Brian Price is the wrong guy: a UT, not an NT
Replace it with Linval, and rethink the qb and rb picks, and pick a more impact CB, and I’m okay with it.
"If your only ambition in life, is to be a better person; well, that's just the best ambition you can have..." Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew
Not sold on Price either
a NT like Linval or Cody
You could get Snead in the 4th probably even the 5th with that said I think Jarret Brown has more potential for a QB project.
I like Angerer as well but needs to bulk up to play MLB in the NFL around 245 or so.
The 7th is to late for a CB more like 3rd or 4th
The future is uncertain... and the end is always near. JMorrison
With only 3 CBs now and Routt being one of them we need a good value CB in the 4th
Otherwise, it’s not possible to go go DT/OT, DT/OT, MLB with 1,2,3. I like Syd Thompson and he is likely there for us in the 4th.

IF we loose Morrison
and gain another 3rd we could get quality CB
