Schefter: Raiders likely to release Fargas, Warren
JaggerJaw broke the news about running back Justin Fargas and defensive tackle Gerard Warren possibly being released in the post below this. With those releases, the Raiders wouldn't have to pay them their due roster bonus.

Not too surprising
I think as many have pointed out here, Fargas is getting a little too much, & without restructuring he’ll be on his way out. Although he has been a good Raider, he’s been injury prone and maybe squeezed out anyways. We’ll see what happens.
I’m not high on Warren, it seems he’s had one or two good games a year and is invisible the rest.

Hard to be too upset about this
I’ve always been a fan of Fargas…the guy was a great straight ahead fearless runner despite not being flashy…he got the job done.
Warren can easily be replaced by a pylon. We really need to get a solid DT this offseason.

These are two good moves. Not only does it free-up $9,600,000 for uncapped FA tomorrow but it forces us to
acquire a true DT and use Bush more. Much better news than yesterday’s. I will always think well of Justin – he played with 100% commitment and earned the title,“Crash Dummy”

It should be Kelly not Warren (or both), Routt (too late), Green, Carlisle, Javon “where did he go?” Walker, and maybe some others but when you look at what they cost its not terrible value for $$ on the LB core and most of the secondary. If we sign some high priced talent to fill the void in Def and cut some of that lower priced talent then fine.

I understand it was a good move,
But I will miss his running attitude. A True Raider.

As will the Raiders; we can perhaps expect to acquire another back either late in the draft, or in FA.
I’d love to see us get Toby Gerhardt at FB. Dexter McCluster would be a great addition to the backfield, if he comes cheap, and will be a huge difference in the return game, immediately.
I’m with Lyle on some of the other guys we could’ve released.

I love Toby!!!
But, We already have a big back in Bush. And I have a feeling Darren should explide this year.
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

If he came in late, I'd love having Dexter McCluster - a smaller version of Chris Johnson

and the answer to our return woes. We gotta get guys who will be great special teamers and play on two teams
minimum, like Dexter could and would. Like Dante Hall.

We brought in 'go Figurs' for returns- so it's not likely

We have had different PRs and KRs in the past
and it gives you at least some depth. We were using Gary Russell??!!!

Oh god
The Gary Russell thing was horrible! Always starting at the 20 Yard line. We were lucky when we got to the 25!

- Vince Lombardi
I got pissed every time!
Seriously? He’s the only f’ing dude you can put out there???

If Routt is so fast
why wasn’t he groomed to be a backup at the very least. I’d like to see us get back to 2008 when we had a great special teams group and when Miller and Higgins were actual threats in the return game.
"To me, MMA is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography and the dancers hit each other."
I dont know
What happened to Johhnie Lee Higgins..He was injured, But that doesnt explain alot of his issues. I dont know what it is. Was he doing kick returns back then?
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
- Vince Lombardi
He's been the PR the last 2 years
He was messed up mentally for most of last year because of the crushing shot he took from Eric Weddle in the first game of the season when Russell hung Higgins out to dry. He wasn’t the same JLH we saw in 2008 after that but I hope we see him shake it off for this season.
"To me, MMA is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography and the dancers hit each other."
Hey wait a minute
both of these moves make sense I thought the Raiders weren’t allowed to do that.
Hopefully this means more work for Bush and it gives me a little bit of hope after the goofy 1st and 3rd tender on Routt and giving $1.79 million to a long snapper yesterday.
You think they might TRY to go for a RB sometime in the draft?
I hope they don’t.
Thx for the props, :) Although I kinda like Warren, looking at some of last years highlights (posted by dubzfan on fanshots) he looked pumped up
and showed passion when a fellow teamate got a sack. We should keep him as a backup no?
The RaiderLaker
NO!
Not a $5mill aseason! Definitely not good value for $ especially as a backup

I see the good news, if this happens...
But if he does get cut I foresee that Cable or Al are convinced that they will get a DT/NT in the 2nd. round so its not that bad now that i think of it… if it gets done, its done for the reason of addressing the problem: expect a DT in the 2nd round if he does get cut. hopefully Price falls.
The RaiderLaker
I found a perfect dude to take his place: Joseph Linval, At 6"4, 330, he ran a 5.09 40, and posted 39 bench press reps.... Great player.
2nd round pick.
The RaiderLaker
Nice
Sounds interesting I would give that guy’s game tapes a look.
We need a solid everyday player and scale back our expectations a little over our first 2 picks being the all team saviour. If we get a solid everyday performer that fits in and isnt a distraction then its a win. Especially when you look at last few picks in the entire group.

Not bad
Still need to see him performing in game to be properly evaluating him. If there is game tape on that link I didnt see it. Would be nice to grab him 3rd maybe 2nd round not first tho.

Found some you tube highlights, lol at the first takle he makes, that convinced me...
The RaiderLaker
Nice
The guy looks and plays like a beast. He has great agressiveness, a nose for the ball and is persistant. Hopefully he does not take his strength and size for granted because as we all know in the NFL for the most part its and even playing field in that department (remember Tony Mandarich).
I would take him 2nd or 3rd round depending on what else is available.

a wee bit late of a hit, there, don't you think?
Can’t do that on this team. That’s a costly penalty right there.
A very interesting prospect in the 5-6 round, projected 193rd overall. I see him being way better than Warren, almost immediately. Seems able to sniff out the ball, and I love the thirteen tackles for losses, and 14 hurries to add to the few sacks.
It’s scary that we look so poised to get so many impact guys; I’m afraid we have the collossal fuck up of all time, and miss on this draft.

Good find. JJ - the highlights were different games so he consistently stalks and strikes down his QB prey

Plus
He MASSIVE! You would think that at 6’6, some of that 315 pounds would equal out through out the whole body making him look kinda big. But he looks like hes pushing 340-350!

he seems awesome.
I’ll take a look at him later.
the power pig cody!!!!!!!!!!!!
the big guy who beat rich eison in the 40 yard dash. he is big and powerful. he is a better nt than dt but could replace warren and stuff the run.

Sad ti see Fargas go
Gotta love the guy, meanwhile Warren is not a big loss
We all love the Warriors..
We all hate Cohan as an owner of this franchise…
Can Warren eat Routt before he leaves?

I always thought it was sad and ironic to see twin flops Gerard Warren and William Joesph competing with each other. It’d be like bringing Tim Couch in to compete with Jamarcus.
Please
Couch would beat Russell for a starting job. Russell may have a chance against Ryan Leaf, though.

Good Move
This means Bush is gonna get more carries and practically makes us have to Draft a DT. I sure hope that Routt things works out, Its sad that Al is soo inconsistent on his moves

This still leaves a pit in my stomach.
That, was a tough pill to swallow.

Im not sure
On what the whole Tender thing means. Is is, If someone signs Stanford, We get a 1st and a 3rd rd pick?
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
- Vince Lombardi
Exactamundo. It's required of anyone looking at him, in fact.
Unless Davis knows there are multiple teams interested in him, and is leveraging to get somebody he wants, then this could turn out to be a very smart move, but who would be interested in this clown?
Maybe some D back coaches see something we’re unable to. I’ve given our guys somewhat of a break for the lack of real or consistent pass rush, but come on. What do they see in this guy?

I have no clue
This would have made sense to do with Morrison. Hes actually a good player whos wanted around the league. I dont really care what happens with Stanford, All I want is Thomas Howard back
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
- Vince Lombardi
I believe a third round tenderr was placed on Kirk
and that is one I expect us to cash in on. He’ll be picked up by someone for sure, and we’ll be drafting an lb, hopefully a naturall Mike.

I hope Thomas Howard is back as well
I’m fine with Morrison coming back if the Raiders can’t find someone better.
Absolutely. This is one place where additions remain additions only
Not the old, ‘addition by subtraction’ notion of making room for talent. Kirk is a very talented guy, and could arguably win the starting job over a McClain or Weatherspoon for at least a while, and would be great depth, and perhaps give you options to try lining him up over the te or even at the Will spot occasionally to blitz, or zone/blitz and drop into coverage.

I doubt if any of the tenders
will be picked up so who really cares. I think the Raiders really like Bryant which makes Warren expendable and Fargas was never really any good. He was a hard nosed player but not a superior back.
Like everyone else I was surprised by the Routt tender. I just didn’t think they needed to go that high, who wanted him anyway? I don’t mind the Raiders keeping him but not at that price.
None of this makes any difference, it is the QB, always has been, all the other stuff is just fluff. Solve the QB problem, and the Raiders win, don’t solve it and it is another 10 loss season.
true
kick jamarcus and al davis to the curb like the trash they are, and keep Grads upright by bolstering the o-line and the Raiders will be able to compete next year. Not saying there going to the playoffs, but at least they become a +/- .500 team. With out those 2 nothing else matters. They have the talent to compete on both sides of the ball as-is.

congrats
on the DT find, that kid looks like a stud and looks like he has a natural sense of where the play is going. the bio said he needed to work on his pass rush but if hes only really in for 1st and 2nd downs then it doesnt much matter. could be the space eater we’ve been lookin for.
