Finally, A Mock Draft We Can All Agree On

"I'm going to attempt to drown myself...You can try this at home...You can be just like me." Eminem-1998

When Al Davis heard his line come out, he said, "Yo, that is soooo me."

And every single first round pick since then has been a direct reflection of those lyrics.

Al Davis is trying to drown the Raiders.

So, with that in mind, I'm going to give us all something to look forward to. It's a mock draft that we can all agree we don't want to happen. Here goes nothing.

Star-divide

WIth the number 8 pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, The Oakland Raiders select Taylor Mays, safety from USC.

We all know who he is. We all know Al Davis wanted to draft him last year. Most of us want a good OT or MLB Rolando McClain. But Al does not ever give us what we want. For example, most of us wanted the Raiders to let Stanford Routt walk, and he instead receives a first and third round tender. He freaking got a raise!

Taylor Mays is big, strong, fast, and from USC. Who cares if we already have a top ten pick safety (Michael Huff), Tyvon Branch, and Mike Mitchell. Mays is the fastest DB THIS TIME!

With the number 40 pick in the 2010 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select Tim Tebow, QB from Florida.

What do you mean he wasn't the fastest QB? What was all that running he did at Florida?

Who the heck cares if his throw comes all the way from down by his hip, he won two straight national titles in that REALLY simple offense down there. But hey, he did have a stellar game against Cincinnatti you know.

And Tebow fills a need on the offense. We have a QB with a great arm. What we need now is a QB who has great leadership skills and can contribute to the community in a positive way. Hey, if Darren McFumbles can't run the wild hog formation, then you need to get yourself a Tebow!

With the 8th pick in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select Jacoby Ford, WR from Clemson.

"This kid ran a what?" said Al Davis.

"He ran a 4.28, sir." said Tom Cable.

And the rest was history. There is an upside here, Nation, he can catch. And we do need help in the return game. We can't just be keeping useless WR's like Nick Miller on the roster with an injury all year again. Not to imply that Miller's future will be useless, but this guy was seriously on the active roster for fifteen games and never played a single down.

Not so with Jacoby Ford...even though he might be a smidge smaller than Miller. Not sure about that, but they are both really little...and fast!

With the 22nd pick in the third round, the Oakland Raiders select Jarrett Brown, QB from West Virginia.

When I say this guy is fast, I mean fast. We need a guy who can take over that wild hog if Tebow goes down. He's a regular Micheal Vick clone for all those of you who want Vick in Silver and Black.

I got news for you, Vick is not going to be a Raider, but Jarrett Brown is. Hey, if we draft enough QB's we're bound to find one who is worth a crap eventually right?

With the 8th pick in the fourth round of the 2010 draft, the Oakland Raiders select Jim Harbaugh, head coach from Stanford.

"Ummm...Mr. Davis, you can't draft head coaches." said Roger Goodell.

"Oh darn it all to heck. Where is Amy Trask? She needs to look into this and fix it. It's time for a change damn it! Where's my lawyers?!?!?!?" Begged AL Davis.

With the 8th pick in the fourth round, the Oakland Raiders select Jermaine Cunningham, DE from Florida.

Well, in the sixth round, two years ago, we selected a guy named Trevor Scott. It didn't work out. He is now playing linebacker. Cunningham has the same potential. 6'3" 252 pounds, and fast...like 4.68 fast.

Who says Richardson, Seymour, Ellis, and Shaughnessy have any kind of future here anyway. Besides, if they were smart, they would have given Seymour's DNA to those scientist who cloned that one sheep and said "Here, we want seven more of these."

That would surely be worth the first rounder from 2011.

But hey, we got our best player in the fourth round from Florida last year. Who's to say lightning can't strike twice?

WIth the 8th pick in the fifth round, the Oakland Raiders select Dakoda Watson, OLB from Florida State.

So what if he is smaller than Taylor Mays, he is really fast for a linebacker. Look, it's a pick where nobody knows who the hell he is. We should be getting used to those by now.

If all else fails, we can just try him as a cornerback. We need to get this guy to the training facility ASAP!

With the 22nd pick in the fifth round, the Oakland Raiders select Shelly Smith, G from Colorado State.

Who? Ya, exactly.

With the 8th pick in the 7th round, the Raiders select...ahhhhh, who cares? I'm going to be a fan of the Browns now.

Dude, you lost me after Taylor Mays.

Which is what I hope I’m not saying after the Raiders pick at #8, and my weekend will be crap, and with all the rain over the past few weeks, I don’t want my April weekend to go to crap.

Nah, you did a good job

I respect those who can wrap themselves into doing a Mock draft as it takes some work and creativity, problem is I lack the time to get that involved in it. Usually, I don’t have much imput beyond the positions I’d like to see addressed and some of the more well known players.

Not one QB on that list, you guys must be smokin the same shit AL is. Do you fans even watch the games? J.R is shit, and you guys should be kicking in AL Davis’s door and knock that dude in the head.

We got gradkowski who is better than the guy you got. You are the ones that need a QB

Now go crawl back to your…Chiefs site. You’re just scared, wich is understandable, if we do fulfill our needs in the draft, the Chiefs will never see the light of day down in the cellar.

Gradkowski, better than Cassel, i think not, but hey your entitled to your opinion just like i am. As far as next season goes we’ll see who win’s and who doesn’t. Looking at the coaching staff i would say you guys are shit out of luck, but i could be wrong.

Haley’s better than what you have as a head coach, even if i don’t like him. C. Weis OC, R,Crennel DC, if you can think of one guy on your coaching staff that’s better please tell me.

K, but I know you guys will get sweeped by us. Wiess the guy who cant keep his mouth shut and gets in trouble better than our hire of Jackson OC? we'll have to wait and see...

Crennel is aight, Haley=so-so, same as Cable=so-so, Plus Cable won one more game than Haley and we are not in the bottom of the division.

If we keep the HCs out of it we have a good shot.

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 5, 2010 4:23 PM PST up reply actions

why the hell are you here?

I know how matt cassel plays, his skills, and intangibles. They are basically the same exact thing as gradkowski’s.

They both can throw on the run when needed, they are more accurate than have a strong throw(and they both have very similar accuracy and throwing style), they are leaders, they scramble when needed, they study film and have a desire to win, and they both talk with their players and coaches to learn more.

And with the coaching staff, they had us win games that we were projected to get blown out of(i’m sure you know what those games are), Cable done a pretty good job in terms of motivating his player(which is a good trait of any coach).

Todd Haley is not bad crennel is a good DC, and weiss is alright. In terms of coaching staff wise, you guys are in the same boat as we are.

by patriotguy on Mar 5, 2010 4:29 PM PST up reply actions

Ok, great

so in a draft without any standout qb’s you want to forgo all the other positions of need right now to focus wasting more money on a quarterback? Yes, JaGantus Russell sucks, but drafting another quarterback this year isn’t going to magically make him go away. You think Tebow is the answer? I certainly don’t. A mid-round qb this year would still take time to develop. If you actually watched this team you would know how weak they are in the trenches. You would know how medeocre their running game is on offense and defense. If you knew anything, you’d know this team needs to be stronger up front for anyone else behind them to succeed.

The Airman of Westwood

by S Jay Bruin on Mar 5, 2010 1:58 PM PST up reply actions

Hell you guy's can't trade up?

I believe i would be doing something to get either S.Bradford or J.Clausen, no matter what the cost.Or just go back to the old standard in Raiderville and draft the fastest QB.

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 5, 2010 2:03 PM PST up reply actions

So you still have a QB with no O-line

great situation to start a young qb in, and since you’d have to use picks to trade up for a questionable quarterback, you’d lose possibly getting a O-lineman or 2 later in the draft. The run defense still would be weak. This team has a lot of holes, trading up for another huge investment in another quarterback would be a mistake. Go with the journeyman in Gradkowski this year until the team around the QB is ready to compete and wait for a better qb class. Problem is they may actually draft the fasted QB, because Al’s lost it long ago.

The Airman of Westwood

by S Jay Bruin on Mar 5, 2010 2:07 PM PST up reply actions

IMO

I start with the QB and go from their building a franchise. He can always ride the pine, while the o-line is being taken care of. If you guys think it’s OK to settle with Gradkowski, then I’m fine with that. It only mean we won’t be in the bottom of the division. This draft is deep with o-line guy’s so i really don’t see how it would hurt to go after a QB.

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 5, 2010 2:30 PM PST up reply actions

However, you are in the bottom of the division

even as bad as the Raiders are you pick before the Raiders. If you think Bradford or Clausen are all that, why don’t the Chiefs draft them? You wouldn’t even need to trade out. It’s not like Cassell lit the world on fire. The Chiefs have invested in the trenches for better or worst. The Raiders need at least 2 new starters on the O-line to have any shot at competing. None of the QB’s coming out this year are going to solve the Raiders problems, and they need to get back to strengthening their front, or they will stay on bottom. The last time we had a journeyman QB as our starter who’s last name started with a G and moved around pretty well we did pretty good, in fact we did something the Cheifs hadn’t done in almost 30 years now…go to a Super Bowl. Having a blue-chip qb isn’t everything.

Gradkowki is a film rat and a hard worker, if we shore up the O-line in the draft he will be better.

Did you not see him single-handedly beat Pitt? Imagine that with a better O-line, which will mean less chances of injury and more time to throw, Hell! maybe even Jmarcus would look better who knows. the Qb’s suck except for that kid locker he seems like a hard worker and good talent. I refference only Pitt because he didnt play till half the season had gone by then he got injured….O-line nuff said. Same with u guys or Cassel will end up injured again.

Sorry, B.A. While I enjoy talking random shit about others' mock drafts very much

I believe they’re lame, and meaningless, really. I comment relentlessly where guys are “projected” and what “consensus draft boards” have players at (whatever that means) but cannot, for whatever reason, make my own predictions.

Not sure why. I have plenty to say whether someone else is wrong or right about a certain pick, and sometimes have some uncanny results in the grand scheme of things, but still wouldn’t try to pick who takes who and where. I tend to discuss the likelihoods of certain guys based on teams needs, histories drafting (at least, that which I’m familiar with), player’s skill sets and also the concerns on the players and why.

Sorry! Hope that doesn’t preclude me from commenting:)

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 4, 2010 9:40 PM PST up reply actions

Maybe our Run Defense

wouldn’t suck quite so bad if they were not on the field for 3/4 of the game. Actually the run defense wasn’t all that bad except for BIG plays, (most times a cutback through the hole that Morrison vacated in over pursuit.) They were near the top of the league in tackles for loss.
Our offense does our defense no favors

by rambis64 on Mar 5, 2010 1:45 PM PST up reply actions

OMG i have never heard more beautiful expression from another person!

Seriously i was butting heads with people all last season about this whole “get a big dt in the middle” theory. Our run defense sucked the last few seasons because look at our time of possession compared to the other teams. Its outrageous. Im shocked our defense didnt give up twice the yards that they did considering how long they were on the field.

Everyone last year who want BJ Raji said the same thing. “He commands a double team”. No he doesnt. Ron Brace had a better rookie year than raji even though he was “supposedly” just a product of double teams by raji. We should have picked a receiver then and we did. (Although we had 3 to pick from-1 had great hands and was awesome after the catch. The other was a speedster who was a home run threat every time he got the ball. And the other ran a 4.3 and couldnt catch a cold. We had a 2 out of 3 chance to get a great receiver and we blew it. Commitment to excellence?)

On to this years draft we need an OT or a corner with our top pick. Then we need a corner. And maybe a nose tackle in the later rounds. Maybe cam thomas from north carolina.

by posey440 on Mar 5, 2010 4:08 PM PST up reply actions

um

raji is more beastly than brace is. Raji is faster, quicker, and pretty much as strong as brace is. When BC faced a team, Raji is what the opponents OL looked out for. And Raji still had an awesme year. Brace is slow, doesn’t have much “push” at the line the way Raji has. Reason why raji does get the double teams is because he is quick and strong, and if strength don’t beat a lineman he’s facing, his quickness will come in, and he’ll get by the guy.

by patriotguy on Mar 5, 2010 4:34 PM PST up reply actions

Lack of it?

Haha No comment. Its gonna be interesting to watch all 2 of them in the NFL. My predictions go a little something like this

Pat Angerer- Solid MLB on a weak team for years. Always in the Top 5 of tackles but never the impressive leader. Aka Kirk Morrison

Sean Weatherspoon- 8 Time Pro Bowler. 2 Rings. Plenty of fines for excessive taunting and a big mouth in front of the media

Rolando McClain- 1 Time Pro Bowler. Gonna suffer a serious injury his sophmore year and never quite recover. Eventually leading to hi trade to a abysmal team forcing him to retire

B/c of you I'm second guessing McClain - that slacking off comment you made

and my resch of deep south syndrome makes me hesitate – If Rolando were to “slack off” I would not forgive myself for lobbying for him. Weatherspoon was always my second favorite (even though his name is rather long and a bit ridiculous) but you say he’s a leader while Angerer is more like Kirk (a happy follower forced to lead). Well, Rolando was a leader at Bama – all his coaches stress that and you saw him play so he’s definitely got the ability if his moral holds firm.

Shall the battle begin

For as long as I know you Sons, I will be rooting for Sean Weatherspoon and you shall stick to Rolando McClain. A back and forth contest of who was right and who was wrong

Okay, if the Raiders don't take either one

If McClain goes (deep) south my scars may never heal.

If McClain lives up to my

Predictions, I may make a youtube video of me dancing around in a Weatherspoon jersey screaming "Im right, Im right, Im right, Im righ,t Im right!! "

What dance will we do when we take Tebow?

Projectile vomiting expletives. That gun and bottle thing is sounding like the way to go…

Like that Angerer kid

We could probably pick him up in the 3rd. from what they were saying at the combine he’s a little off,(in a good crazy way) which is good because you have to be a little off to play MLB

Bulagu over Iaputi?

You guys are funny. Mike Iaputi is a gem, and will be a long-time NFL standout.

 1st round—The best DL available
1st round(Routt deal with either Chargers or Redskins)—Kyle Wilson. CB Boise State
 2nd round—Best OL available
 3rd round—Best player available

 Etc.

Complete Opposite

If you think about it. Lupati is horrible when it comes to actual talent but his mean and agressive attitude has made plenty believe hes a great player. Buluga though, Technically brilliant! Great motivation and drive and the smartest offensive lineman in the draft. Hmmmm. Who to take?…Buluga!

Im a boise state fan and current student and even I would take Iupati in the first.

Granted, not with the 8th pick. And i am a firm believer that if a lineman is good enough, whether center guard or tackle, then he should be a first round pick. Only kicker and punter and maybe fullback are the exceptions in 1 round pick material. (yeah guess who is the only team to break that rule? do your thing al! hahaha!) Iupati is a mauler with suprizing athleticism. Worthy of a 15th pick or lower. even at pure guard.

Considering the length of careers that Guards have and our definite need (with only Gallery) - I'd be content

with Iupati in the 1st round. Anybody who can immediately start on that line of ours, Pouncey, etc..

My Mock

1st rd-Bruce Campbell LT
2nd rd-Daryl Washington MLB
3rd rd-Eric Olsen C
3rd rd-Sergio Kindle DE
4th rd-Mike Neal DT
I think the combine workout pushes Campbell over Anthony Davis who may be the better prospect but this is Al we’re talking about.

Daryl Washington?

interesting choice sir. Kinda exploded onto the scene at the combine, This years draft is ridiculously deep. Another LB is Navarro Bowman. Hes from PSU. A College that practically breeds LB’s

He was actually rated hig prior to the combine

He is a good 2nd rd pick who unlike Weatherspoon did play ILB instead of OLB for a very good TCU defense. I think any LB from Penn St is a great pick. I believe Bowman is expected to go late 1st rd though. As much as we dread draft day we all will be glued to the screen that night.

LOL "mock" draft indeed! :D

I appreciate your sense of humor!

Tebow – I wonder if he would play strong safety or fullback… I just don’t see him as a QB at the NFL level…

by shadowfreder on Mar 5, 2010 5:04 PM PST reply actions

I wouldn't hate Taylor Mays as the pick

But I’d move him to Will LB, maybe MLB if he can add 10 lbs. If you take Mays with Eric Berry still on the board, I KEEL YOU!!!

I agree with most that Bruce Campbell will be the guy, though. He’s a project, but if we can keep Cable around, he can be really really good, too. I think Anthony Davis fits here, too. By whiffing on DHB last year and leaving some decent OLs on the board, I’m sure Cable has been in Al’s ear about the LT position, especially with a qb that moves only slightly better than Abe Vigoda in the pocket.

It HAS to be the best available OT.

2nd Round…Brandon Spikes, LB Florida. I don’t care about measurables. The kid flys from sideline to sideline and makes plays with attitude. People got on him for the eye gouge. Those people have obviously never played in the trenches…that is the kind of attitude our defense needs back. Hit ’em in the mouth…

3rd Round…LaMarr Houston, DT Texas Should be best available DT.

4th Round…Darrell Stuckey, FS Kansas. This kid is legit, and has size and recovery speed. Remember, we like to take safeties and make them into man cover CBs…once Mitchell beats out Johnson and Routte for the RCB position, this guy could compete for nickle back reps. Plus he’ll be a demon on punt and kick coverage. Was also a team captain as a senior…

5th Round…Sam Young, OT, Notre Dame. HUGE player. Four year starter. Could be a project, but he’s a steal if he’s available here. I wouldn’t mind Jarrett Brown here, either. He’s got a sort of Ronald Curry appeal to me. 6’3" 224 with wheels? Could develop as a WR/RB/QB hybrid kinda like Brad Smith with the Jets.

6th Round…Tony Washington, OT Abilene Christian (small school tackle translates more to a guard in the league, but a mountainous one, might be a reach in rd 6, but we need young talented OLs more than anything. Taking a stud lineman from a small Texas school and building an offensive line with him is something that only won the Raiders 3 Super Bowls. See Upshaw, Gene.)

7th Round…Clifton Geathers, DE, South Carolina. Could develop into a Seymour-esque jack of all trades DL. Big enough to play in the 3, Quick enough to play the 5…
