A Question from a Giants Fan
How's it going guys? For those that don't know, I'm a die hard Giants Fan and have been trying to get as much info on your Middle LB Kirk Morrison as possible....I've posted questions in some of the threads but haven't received much info so I thought I'd throw a Fan Post up.
So here goes....what is the deal w/ this kid Kirk Morrison? Why did you only offer him a 3rd round tender? Is he really that good in coverage? Is he that bad in Run Support? Is he more of a WILL or SAM? Are his stats inflated because your D is on the field a lot (no disrespect)?
FYI, the comments AP made about ya'll this year was so asinine, dude shoulda kept him mouth shut...sure enough we collapsed shortly after those stupid remarks.....it's called Karma (Thanks AP). Kinda like when Osi was bragging on Monday Night Football about how great we were in '08....Cleveland turned around and embarrassed us on National TV.
So please, if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

he doesnt fit
he doesnt fit on 4-3 defense nuff said we need to draft mclain but i think al davis already change his mind it’s between spiller and mays the raiders just release fargas
Its funny how
This is the 2nd fan from another team over here posting about Kirk. And we only gave him a 3rd Rd. Tender. How sad

so what are you trying to say....
i’m really just curious to find out as much as possible….
From the sounds of it, you may be the only person that i’ve talked to, that actually may still want KM as a Raider?!!?!

Im not sure on what I think of Kirk
Hes a local boy and a great linebacker. Just not a MLB. Maybe in a 3-4 set he could excell, but not alone. Hes a natural OLB and when moved inside, he put up impressive numbers, but you can see he doesnt have the voice or force of a leader
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

fair enough....
i just can’t believe the #‘s he’s put up over the years…and the fact that he only got a 3rd round tender.
not sure if you know but we’re pretty thin at LB over here in NY…and I’m pretty sure our new DC is going to be running a type of Tampa2/Cover2 scheme…so Morrison may be on our radar for his cover skills.
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
As far as the tender
Blame Al Davis for that one. He put a 3rd on both of our LB’s. Thomas and Kirk. Yet he decided to put a 1st and 3rd on our worst CB in Stanford Routt. But Kirk should be fine anywhere he goes. Maybe the Giants strong line will improve his game, who knows
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

that's actually what were discussing (inNY)
will playing behind a better Dline help him out? problem is, our Dline which used to be our strength is now a huge question mark….
granted a lot of our guys were injured last year but still….

We have all said, with a true NT, and a productive pass rush and great run stopping front four
He’d probably look like a pro bowler, but we don’t know for sure, because we have our front four show up about 30-40% of the time, and are non-existent the rest of the time.

True, Morrison has been put in a tough spot. The D line gets no penetration and is more often pushed
to Kirk’s shins – giving him no chance for acceleration through the ball-carrier or, worse, not finding the ball carrier at all. Still, if he were ‘the man’ he’d smell the pigskin like the pig smells the truffleskin.

I believe Kirk might actually fuflill the deep middle in the Tampa 2 brilliantly.
He can cover well, just gets caught out of positon and on play actions and counters too much in the run game, overpursuing and giving up the angle, something a true Mike backer should never do.
In the Tampa 2, he’ll be covering the deep middle most of the time, which would find him covering the tight end and big receivers on the seam routes, and post routes between the two deep safeties.
Once again, I’d hate to see him go, but generally am happy with how we pick in the third round, so am somewhat excited about stacking up mid round picks. If I had my druthers, I’d keep him, and let our top MLB prospect compete for the starting job, and expect Kirk to lose it, and perhaps usurp another guy for the SLB spot.

I think he was given that tender so somebody would bite.

Most of us want to keep Kirk, but don't see him as a true 'captain' Mike backer
Some have speculated that he’d excel in the Sam position, and provide some necessary depth. He’s starter caliber, better than many lb’s in the league, but might thrive in a 3-4 scheme.
Despite being caught out of position regulary, and biting on fakes and misidirection plays too often, he makes over a hundred solo tackles every year, and is in on another 20-30. When he’s surrounded by other talent on the lb corps, and a better front seven, he knows how to find passing lanes and get some ints. but it’s been a couple of years. In ’07 he combined with Howard to get 10 ints. at the lb spot.
Great prospect, maybe indicative that we’ll go after McClain or Spikes, and get a true play caller and aligner of the defense.
We’re scratching our heads as to why the third round tender was used on him, and a 1st and third on Stanford “the guy that gets jobbed for scores” Routt (-ed).
This guy would fit in great in Coughlin’s schemes, but not a true Mike backer in my opinion, and many here will second that sentiment.

I can dig it! We tend to see things how they affect us, and many of us are pissed with Al's latests tenders
his and the organization’s handling of the Fargas situation, and the typical bs from the top. If you have any specific questions, feel free to shoot ’em back.
What pick do the Giants have this year? Any chances you’re looking at MLB’s there?

we're sitting @ 15....
I was and still am a huge fan of Earl Thomas but considering we just made Anrel Rolle the richest Safety ever i don’t think we’ll take a S.
We’re all licking our chops hoping McClain will be there…
i doubt it…w/ that being said, we can go OT or DT w/ our first pick….
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
No way McClain falls to 15, but Spikes could be the right pick in Coughlin's facsist system
He’d either make it or be quickly cut. Don’t see him committing costly penalties and getting fined under Tom’s tutelage.
Nothing personal about the fascist comment; I actually appreciate TC’s style, and the Giant’s organization as a class one on the whole.

LOL...it's ok..even the giant fans give Old Man TC a tough time...
but I’m actually hearing something about the giants swapping w/ Jax to move to 10….
I was hoping McClain was falling there but i just don’t see him being around at 15 either….

and if Kirk’s going anywhere, it may as well be a team with whom he can expect some success. He will be sorely missed by the nation if indeed we part ways.

you must be right, as very few teams have shown interest in any mlb fas
whether restricted or unrestricted. And teams are in no hurry to sign the guys they have thus far to contract extensions. I’d have expect the Barrett Ruuds and guys like that to be well taken care of.

For most teams,
MLB is already taken care of. Its maybe the most important position on the field and teams recognize this. Most great teams have a good ILB.

That's the spirit, Sons! Maybe if we predict hard enough, opposite what we want...
Our predictions will be dashed for the polar opposites of what we predict? Mexpridenpoise has me wanting to approach it altogether differently, for now, anyways.

Not on Al; on ourselves...
Maybe our collective wishing has a powerful cosmic effect on the football Gods. If we wish for the track stars and the classic Al types to which we’ve grown so accustomed, maybe our collective wishes will be shot down in favor of the guys who can just flat out play football.
I know I’m sounding crazier than ever now.

You guys should go for Morrison, Maybe he'll do even better in the right system.
I wish the best for Kirk if he were to be picked up by any team. I personally want a change in scenery with the MLB position maybe McClain or another backer in the later rounds (as i want OT in 1st.)
The RaiderLaker
Kirk is all hustle, athletic and a sure tackler. If he LBs in a 3-4 or OLB in 4-3 he is definitely a bargain for a 3 pick
Being optimistic, against good reason to be, this may suggest we’re considering McClain, Weatherspoon or the Gouger with 8-pick.

You know what our 3rd round pick did last year?
he was “inactive” all year…in fact you guys probably know him…Ramses Barden….Cal Poly kid…
I’d have no problem giving you guys a 3rd rounder for a Middle LB. Even if it doesn’t pan out…i think it’s worth it.
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
personally i love Barden...so i'm not mad at that pick....
but right now he’s stuck behind Steve Smith, Hakeem Nicks, and Mario Manningham.
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
I know Ramses, and personally WR depth is a great problem to have. He is at the right place on the depth chart.
MM is a stud, and will make a push for the legit number 2 spot this year. Barden will come around; perhaps a bit of a reach in the third round, but does it matter when a guy ultimately becomes a contributor?
Thanks for stopping by Andiamo; I’d like to see Kirk have some success with you guys if this happens. We all love him, and he embodies the Raider spirit, but lacks the instincts to play true MIke in our system. Maybe he could do it with the productive front four you guys have. He can focus on staying home more often, and making plays.

I went up to training camp this year in Albany NY...
and i watched what this kid Barden can do up close in person….
I’m telling you what, the kid is a star. I couldn’t believe how he abused our Corners in camp…not webster because he wasn’t matched up with him…but the other guys, goodness gracious…it was like a grown man playing against little kids.
the only reason Coughlin doesn’t have him out there is because Barden cant’ contribute on Special Teams, nor should he have to….it’s like asking Plaxico Burress to play gunner?!?! He’s too damn tall and lanky…it’s too easy for a shorter guy to just get leverage on him and push him outta the way.
It’s a crime IMO…but i’ve accepted it. Not to mention Barden is one of the smartest and most professional rookies i’ve seen in years….everything he says, his work ethic, everything. I really would trade him if he doesn’t play here b/c i like him that much and I want to see him play b/c IMO he deserves to play.

Thats how TC is
Hes crazy strict and a fucking hardass lol I would hate to have him or anyone like him as a coach
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
- Vince Lombardi
lol...he ain't THAT bad.
Nicks had no business getting as much playing time as he did b/c he was hurt in camp and really didn’t do much. Barden was miles ahead of Nicks….(in Camp)
but Nicks had a good Preseason and because he was the 1st round pick TC put him on the fast track…our 2nd round pick Beatty ended up starting like 3-4 games, and we even had our 4th round pick (Travis Beckum) playing week 1.
He’s tough but he’s not impossible.
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
i like barden a lot too
so tall

I wished we could have drafted Raji instead of the guy with 4.3 speed & 5.2 hands
I like Barden in the 3rd rd as well. Morrison is best suited as a ROLB in a 4-3 or possibly the MLB in a cover 2 style defense where he is able to roam deep middle. He is really out of position in our crappy man-to-man, little blitzing, vanilla defense but is the best we got.

Are you advising NYG GM Jerry Reece or are you like the rest of us with delusions of grandeur?
by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 8, 2010 11:59 AM PST up reply actions
Like most people said, hes out of position
Its just plain stupid though when the leading tackler on our team has a 3rd round tender while Stanford Routt was given a 1st and 3rd round tender. Clearly if you play well for the raiders, your probably gonna get cut(fargas), and if you suck ass, we will give you and extension(javon walker, stanford routt)
But what I want to know from you Andiamo708 is what do YOU think of the contract you guys gave to Antrel Rolle? You think he will be worth it? And is Osi gonna show up this next year?
Technically we didnt give him and extension, HOWEVA..
We did ask him to take a pay cut, and he did. So essentially, we were going to cut him but we gave him another chance, albeit for less money, but overall he received more time as a raider and he sucks ass.
Of course Antrel Rolle got PAID.
is he worth it? well define WORTH? we literally had not one NFL Safety on the roster after Phillips went down….so yeah, we over paid, but we were desperate.
I think Osi will bounce back….I want to keep him for one more year, of course he’s only due 3 Million so i don’t see how you can’t bring him back unless someone iswilling to give us a nice deal.
"If you don't know what you're doing... just rush the quarterback" - LT
Well the saying goes "It doesnt matter how much a house costs, because if its a good house, then it was worth it"
Or in your guys case “It doesnt matter how much a house costs because its worth it if your homeless” lol. And i heard a trade on Sirius NFL radio the other day where a Texans fan wanted to trade Demico Ryans to the giants for Osi and Ahmad Bradshaw. Adam Shein then toasted this guy because he hated the trade. But let me ask you a spin off of that trade…
Would you take Demico Ryans, one of the best young players at his position in the league, for…
1. Osi Yumenioura(?)
and
2. Brandon Jacobs
?
Thats a dumb trade
Demico is crazy good and getting better by the day. Osi is getting old and Brandon Jacobs is nearly 30 as well. Trade fail
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
- Vince Lombardi
A 26 year old for a 29 year old and a 28 year old?
The age isnt a big issue. Granted EVEN I WOULDNT do this trade. But it doesnt matter what I woud do. If the GM for the Texans sees this trade he might pull the trigger.
But why?
They have Mario Williams at DE and Steve Slaton at HB. Plus, If you want a big back. Theres Toby Gerhart who they can easily snag
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?
- Vince Lombardi
Just to address needs
Move Connor barwin to Outside, Cushing to Middle linebacker, and have 2 outstanding DEs. Then you have a scat back like slaton and a 6’4 265 lbs rb, which they didnt have and needed all last season. Again, I wouldnt do it, but it makes a bit of sense.
I do it in a heart beat....
I actually want to keep Osi and deal Mathias Kiwanuka….but for Ryans i make the deal.
I love jacobs, he’s a leader in the locker room and also fights w/ opposing NFC East players…but he’s too big and takes too much punishment for a 16 game season. He’s got 2 years left max….
I love brandon, but for D. Ryans i pull that trigger!

Kirk Morrison
Kirk would make an awesome outside LB or second ILB on a 3-4 team. We are so weak at LB we have him in the middle. Its not his best position and he still produces good numbers. It would be great to keep him, move him to OLB and get McClain or Spikes or even the MLB from Penn State whose name I can’t remember right now. But with just a 3rd round tender will probably lose him to. Another awesome decision from our feerless( and brainless) leader. Yaa Al!?!
better losing Kirk that Howard - I really don't want Thomas picked up. Any news on Sam Williams? There's someone we could lose

Thomas is my favorite player on Oakland
Losing him would be like loosing a friend. Like, Hvaing a pal move to another town where you hardly get to see him and when ever you do he beats you up because hes joined a gang or something

Morrison
would be a great player in a 3-4. He is not a true inside presence like a Lewis or a Willis, but would be a great addition to the right type of scheme. It’s too bad we run a prehistoric 4-3 man press defense with horrible DT’s.
