Let me be the first to say... Derek Anderson should be a Raider`

Derek Anderson fits the mold for a Raider quarterback.

  1. Success in the past, but has fallen on hard times.
  2. Big arm to make Al Davis happy.
  3. Would come at a moderate cost.

What does everyone think?  I know we also need to upgrade the WR corps; however, this would be a great addition to either push JaDumbcus or lead us to at least an 8-8 record.

Wake up Al... get us someone who at least gives us a chance.

Either resign Gradkowski or bring in D. Anderson.  Let's go Raiders!

No way

not as long as Jafatfuck is still under contract. Also I believe Anderson had a game last year where his stat line was 2-17 & an int. No thanks.

I may be one of the few ..

But I still like Jamarcus. He has unlimited potential. If someone could only get through to him and make him learn that it’s not all about him. He can have all thematerialistic b.s. he wants off the field .. But when Sunday comes around, he’s a RAIDER .. I don’t know how true it is, but I’ve heard he’s in Arizona doing some sort of camp with Raider personnel and has been shedding some pounds? I really hope this season was a wake up call. I believe that we stay with Russell and he gets another chance cause he’s Mr. Davis’ pet .. I hope we resign Gradkowski, and I hate to say this, but I hope he doesn’t get another shot because I want Russell to succeed. He just can’t show up like he doesn’t care anymore (and shouldn’t have to begin with).

The reports about JR training in Arizona

have not been substantiated to my satisfaction. I have been looking for pics of a slimmer JR, and instead I found one of him more bloated than ever, preparing to be crowned as King Elexis I. Even if he does lose weight in Arizona, it will be more of pre-prom crash diet – I doubt his motivation will be affected.

by Spirals galore on Mar 9, 2010 6:45 PM PST up reply actions

True

He needs serious help, one thing I will give him that he’s very clutch. Whenever he was in and we needed something late in the game he’d do it cause he’s never rattled. But until he weighs around 260 and can throw at the right guy he will be a backup

Let's Remember

You have to be intelligent to play QB. JaDumbcus does not exactly ooze of brain power during his horrible interviews. Then you have to move to all of these “if” statements…

1. IF he loses wait… (let me stop laughing for a second)… if he loses wait what will happen. He will not make stupid throws, he will become more accurate on mid to short range passes, he will what?
2. IF he is not simply satisfied by collecting a paycheck, he will what? Lead the Raiders to the promised land? Grow a brain? Pull his big fat head out of his big fat ass?

JaDumbcus should be put on the bench and let his contract run out… or better yet… release him so I don’t have to look at his fat ass on the sideline.

Cut JR

and bring in Anderson and let him and Grad battle it out. That would save about $9 million

No

Im a fan of Bruce Gradkowski, and Until he proves otherwise, he deserves a chacne at starting QB

That's a maybe.

Anderson can be a good QB. But we have grad, and losman(unless no?).

by patriotguy on Mar 9, 2010 7:04 PM PST reply actions

I have been thinking about this for awhile and the perfect guy to bring in is TROY SMITH!!!

Im not joking. A 5th round tender? Cheap. Familiarity with Hue Jackson? Check. Scrambling ability AND an Al Davis arm? Check. He hasnt developed bad habits like young QBs who play too early (David Carr, Jamarcus russel) and he is still only 25 and will turn 26 in mid season. Maybe a lil short but bruce was too when he threw 3tds against the Steelers in the 4th last season. Troy Smith would be awesome because he has a little experience playing but not enough for him to be unmold-able.

Lets remember, if he hadnt had that rare form of tomsilitis a few years back, he was neck and neck for the starting job with joe flacco. Sure flacco would have got the job anayway because of him being a 1st rounder, but Troy Smith can play.

And JP Losman sucks too.

Anderson

You know, it’s debatable if he’s even better than Russell right now. That alone says that he shouldn’t even be considered.

But at least hes has shown that if you give him time and weapons he can make plays

Nobody can fluke a 29 TD pass season. Sure he has dropped off a bit, but he can at least make good reads week to week. Unlike russell, who were really not 100% if he can read a book, let alone an NFL defense.

having to be benched and sit behind quinn might be the fire this guy needs to bounce back

he knows once quinn was drafted he was no longer the future and may very well thrive in a new role for another team.

Is Derek Anderson the answer?

probably not but unlike anyone else on the roster he does have a big season under his belt.

Gradkowski is coming off major injury and he’s never been a long term starter before so why not bring someone in to compete with him? If he wins the job then Anderson could be the back up or he’s cut.

Talent
This team isn’t good enough at any position to turn down talent from anywhere.

Well, Anderson isn’t talent at all if you ask me. It’s like JaMarcus Russell without the expectations we initially had for him. The guy completed 44.5 percent of his passes with a 42.1 quarterback rating.

Frye

He’s not worth any pick in the draft except for maybe a seventh-round selection.

The Browns already traded for one backup in Seneca Wallace. They won’t trade for another.

JR in his earlier years

I found a reference to this video in a recent SF Chronicle article, discussing a rumor about JR (that he is in Arizona, but at a clinic for lethargy addiction). JR certainly moves better there.

I say

Invite Anderson out for training camp, nothing to lose. Keep Grad and sign him for 3 years. Sign Frye to a 2-3 year contract and that will be minimal for sure. Maybe ANderson has something in the tank but lets see what we he can do in training camp. If he cant perform cut him its no loss if we do he wont get a guaranteed contract or we keep him on the practice squad. Every year there are surprises I have money on Grad keeping us going this year. Russell will be picking splinters from his ass after the first 2 games if he gets the nod to start. Then that will be that he will drift into the night like Buster Douglas and go into a diabetic coma after gaining another 100-150lbs.

You beat me to it.

I attempted my first post yesterday, but got sidetracked. I watched Anderson at OSU knew he was good then. i wasn’t at all surprised when he exploded onto the scene. I think he could definitely compete for a roster spot and would be a nice addition to the QB depth chart.
I have no faith in JRussel.
1. Poor footwork, watching your QB tackle himself while throwing a 5 yard pass is just embarrassing.
2. He dogs his own players. It wasnt that Grad was playing better, the receivers were jut making him look better. Granted some of his passes were in the WR’s hands, he was off the mark consistently.
3. No work ethic. Enough said.
4. Refusal to take a pay cut. Why get paid like Peyton Manning when you play worse than Ryan Leaf? Russel is selfish and only cares for himself. His contract is outrageous and with a team with holes like the Raiders, they need to free up salary to e upgrade the roster. Russel could have helped that out. If he is so confident he will be good, he could have taken a paycut now, and raked in the cash in FA. If you ask me, he knows he wont be around the league long. He isnt good enough.
5. Bad mechanics. People dont mention this about him often enough. I will say it. When he lost the fumble against Baltimore, he was holding the ball at his waist while surveying the field. How can he throw it from there?
6. He can’t read routes. They cant even use a real playbook with him. If the game is in his hands we are all but screwed.
7. I just dont like him. As a fan of the Raiders who buys their merchandise and supports them, i think I should be allowed to have an opinion.

I think Anderson was a great QB however...

He was on a worthless Team! xD The brown fans actually think a great QB from college is going save the team lol. What they don’t know is it takes “Team Effort!” to win football games. Look at it this way: you can put tom brady in there and Cleveland would still suck. WHY?! cause without weapons or support the guy throwing the ball will only be as good as his team for realz tho :P. Now does he belong with the raiders hmmm I guess anything is better then russell, Why don’t we give him a shot.

JOSH FREEMAN IS BETTER THAN ANY QB ON THE TEAM TRY TO TRADE BRUCE FOR HIM AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

YOU SAYING BRUCE AND RUSSELL ARE BETTER NO WAY STAFFORD 13TB 20 INTS ROOKIE. BRUCE 4 YEARS 15 TDS 16 INTS. SO IN ONE YEAR ON A BAD TEAM HE HAS ALREADY CAUGHT BRUCE. (SO BRUCE PLAYS 3 GAMES AND HE IS PROVEN, BUT NO ONE ELSE IS)

CASSEL OVERRATED YOU CALLED BRUCE BALD JESUS (REMIX) CASSEL PLAYED ON A WORSE TEAM THAN WE HAD AND STILL OUT HAD MORE YARDS THAN RUSSELL AND BRUCE TOGETER.

ALEX SMITH MADE A BIG IMPROVEMENT BASED ON THIS YEAR HE SHOWN HE HAS STEPPED IT UP. PLUS HE HAS A RUN GAME AND A DEFENSE SO HE CAN PLAY IT SAFE. AND WIN. BOTTOM LINE HE IS BETTER THAN ANY QB ON OUR TEAM.

I WILL TAKE MATT MOORE HE COMP OVER 60% OF HIS PASSES 8 TDS 2INTS JUST ONE WR DID YOU SEE THE PANTERS LAST 5 GAMES THEY WERE ON FIRE.

MATT LEINART MIGHT BE OUR ONLY GUY BUT HE HAS A COACHING STAFF SO I WILL PICK HIM.

A HURT HASSELBECK IS BETTER THAN A HEALTH BRUCE THIS WAS A DOWN YEAR 3000’S YARDS HE WAS HURT AND PLAYED IN 14 GAMES.

you are an(excuse me I don't usually say this)

idiot if you think bruce has not improved. I don’t know about you, but you evaluate talent based on looking at the player’s skills and intangibles, NEVER stats.

Gradkowski, as we all know, has improved his skills from the previous year. He was reading targets easier, throwing accurately, shows poise in the pocket, making the scramble when needed and can throw well on the run if needed, he has the leadership(which does need A BIT more improving, but he’s almost there) and he has the desire to win.

Cassel has basically the same skill set, but I think he has a stronger arm than Grads, and he has better awareness.

I havent really evaluated Alex Smith yet, so I don’t know much about him, and Josh Freeman looks good. He is accurate, and poised in the pocket. He needs to improve his awareness, then he can be great(and throwing power may be needed, but not much).

Stafford has freakin’ Calvin Johnson. But other than that, he just needs to improve his awareness, and he needs to work on timing his throws. He needs to SLIGHTLY improve his accuracy as well, and needs to improve his pocket presence.

"You gotta make plays" - Art Shell back in 06 lol

Stats don’t mean nothing if you can’t win games. It’s all about Character, over coming pressure, and showing the team that your a leader on and off the field. Last time I checked micheal, Bruce gradkowski was winning games and bringing back the Raider Mystique. That’s something I haven’t seen bench warmer Matt Leinart, Haselbeck , or that chump from Detroit what’s his name again?!….. Oooh yea “Stafford” do all year for their teams ROFL!

by Suleku on Mar 10, 2010 10:23 PM PST reply actions

Some boards had Bradford projected ahead of Stafford last year if he'd have come out for the draft with him then

Stafford will be good; Detroit is steadily improving with a real GM in place since Millen was usurped, a day late and a dollar short. It’ll take them some time to recover, but they are getting good, slowly but surely, and will show signs of life with a solid draft, and some already great FA signings.

deserves to get a starting shot with Oakland. He has expressed interest in it, he is working hard for it, he has proven he can do it well. He is our man. Anderson will end up with Carolina, most likely.

No more mediocrity, make no mistake Derek Anderson is bland, he can never significantly help us

LeFevour will be great someday – he’s the best QB in this draft and if we go for any QB it should be Danny. At any rate, Bruce is going to have a great season and with the improved play calling (Jackson can’t be worse than Cable) the focus should be on pass protection – OTs, Gs, Cs, FBs.

by Sons-of-Blanda on Mar 12, 2010 6:49 AM PST reply actions

No question about Murphy or Schilens. But Bey will get another year unless Al gets an unrealistic offer - ain't happening

so DHB breaks out this season or we part ways with him. Other good targets JLHiggins and and the TEs and DMC too all indicate we’re fine with receivers – they are not a concern and I don’t want any through FA or the draft.
