Possible deph chart for next year post draft
This is all just my opinion on who may start next year, if a name has an asterisk by it I will explain some of the logic to the choice. Slashes means there will be competition for the job and either will get the spot
OFFENSE :
QB - Jason Campbell*/ Bruce Gradkowski*/ Jamarcus Russell* , Charlie Frye , Kyle Boller
FB - Oren O'neal/Marcel Reese/Manase Tonga/ Gary Russell
RB - Michael Bush/Darren Mcfadden , Andre Anderson
TE - Zach Miller , Brandon Myers , Tony Stewart
LT - Mario Henderson , Bruce Campbell
LG - Robert Gallery , Brandon Rodd
C - Samson Satele , Chris Morris
RG - Cooper Carlisle/Langston Walker , Erik Pears/Alex Parsons
RT - Jared Veldheer* , Khalif Barnes
WR - Chaz Schilens(1st) , Louis Murphy (2nd) / Darius Heyward Bey , Johhnie Lee Higgins , Jacoby Ford , Todd Watkins, Trent Guy
Offensive notes : I have the QB spot the way it is because I feel as though Bruce will give JC a run for his money and when Raymond said that JMarc seemed humbled and in much better shape I'm willing to give him a chance to compete. And at right tackle I have the rookie starting because after looking at the pick a little closer the guy seems ready to play now and make an impact.
DEFENSE 4-3 scheme :
DE - Trevor Scott* , Matt Shaughnessy , Alex Daniels
DT - Desmond Bryant/Tommy Kelly, William Joseph
DT - Richard Seymour or Lamarr Houston* , Tommy Kelly
DE - Richard Seymour or Lamarr Houston , Jay Richardson
OLB - Thomas Howard , Sam Williams
MLB - Rolando McClain (I love typing that name in! DROY) , Ricky Brown , Travis Groethel, Brashton Satele
OLB - Kamerion Wimbley , Quentin Groves
CB - Nnamdi Asomugha , Chris Johnson/Stanford Routt/Walter Mcfadden/Jeremy Ware*/Stevie Brown
SS - Tyvonn Branch , Mike Mitchell
FS - Michael Huff , Hiram Eugene
Notes : I have Scott in the line because if we still have Howard by the start of the year there is no way we bench someone like him. You want both of those guys in as much as possible in my opinion. If Scott plays OLB Matt Shaugnessy moves to the starting spot on the line or Seymour slides over to end and Bryant starts at DT. Seymour and Houston are interchangeable. I believe that the other starting corner job and the nickel job are up for grabs but Stanford Routt is either going to start or be the 4th guy. He played well as a starter and awful in the nickel so that limits his possibilities.
3-4 Scheme (same defensive backs as above) :
DE - Richard Seymour , Desmond Bryant , Alex Daniels
NT - Tommy Kelly/Lamarr Houston* , William Joseph
DE - Lamarr Houston*/Matt Shaughnessy , Jay Richardson
OLB - Trevor Scott, Quentin Groves
ILB - Roland McClain , Ricky Brown , Brashton Satele
ILB - Thomas Howard , Travis Goethel
OLB - Kamerion Wimbley , Thomas Howard
Notes : Houston is a big guy although he doesn't quite look like so I think he can compete for the NT job , if not he competes for the end job
Special Teams :
KR - Yamon Figurs/Jacoby Ford/Nick Miller (he's still on the roster apparently)
PR - Jacoby Ford/Yamon Figurs/Nick Miller
We will obviously have the same kicker, punters and long snapper as last year.
Post your deph chart please so I can get a good look on how others feel about the team and I'd appreciate feedback
EDIT : I'm adding names as I go according to the UFA's

I think Houston ill do well at DT
but Cable said DE for him, which leads me to believe more 3-4 this year.
I think.
Dammit I was writing one of these specifically for QBs
tatum, davidson, romanowski, wisniewski...LET'S GET NASTIER!!!!
Jared Veldheer is a bit of a project. I don’t think he’s starting right away, but it would be a pleasant surprise if he did because it would mean he earned it.

J.C. said the position is his. The situation changed when Grad put himself at risk and jeopardized our season
by injuring himself. Yes, that pissed me off – why was he lifting heavy, he’s a QB not a lineman? We need instant stability at that position. Grad is great, I love him, but it should be understood that Campbell is going to lead this team and, of course, Bruce is free to win the job back. Russell should somehow disappear with minimum disruption and financial loss.
agreed
at the same time as good of a job Grad has done he sint a starter but an amzing backup, i like the set up im sure we’ll have a 4-3 defense for most of the year we have alot of talented depth on the Dline. we still need a number two corner.
Jim McMahon
used to lift too. Sometimes Grad seems like a smaller, weaker armed version of him. Course I’m biased. Was in Chicago in those days.
You had some beasts - Bruce is an overachiever (all heart) and my guess is that he was pitting himself with the big fellows
You don’t tear a peck like that with 200 lbs – unless doing flys with 50’s in each hand.

Not totally true
He may have had some underlying problem OR he may have decided to go a few too many reps OR he may have just over trained.

So he either had an underlying frailty or demonstrated poor judgement

The position is not fully his, he jumped the gun and now he will face Cable's pimp hand...
But seriously, Cable said that he didn’t fully convey that message to him but he likes his atittude to wanting to start, and that he has to earn it by open QB competition like it should be… By all means may the best man win, Campbell or Bruce of course…

Perhaps you may have heard that Grad tore his pectoral muscle and will be rehabilittationg for several months
I do not expect him to be engaged in regular drills and scrimmages for 3-4 months. It’s his left peck, thank God, but it will affect his throwing until healed and he won’t have much time to physically prepare before the season starts.
by Sons-of-Blanda on Apr 24, 2010 10:14 PM PDT up reply actions
he's not training
and getting timing with the WRs. He’ll be behind no matter what. It will be very interesting with JR as he can always change his mind and restructure his contract. keeping his contract means that he either wants to try his luck with another team or retire when he gets cut. I just have a feeling that he will restructure near the end of camp and be the 3rd QB. Injuries will be the wild card.
by raiders4liffe on Apr 25, 2010 4:40 AM PDT up reply actions
Not necessarily
Put a sling on your opposite throwing shoulder and see how it restricts your movement, arm strength and accuracy. That will how it will affect him for a while as he recovers from the injury because of the scarring, weakness and immobility after the surgery. From there its all remedial exercise, stretching and lots of time on the therapists table.

kinda my point
he’ll be behind. the QB competition will be heated as JC implied it’s his, Boller knowing Hue’s system, and Bruce being Nation favorite. It’s great to see but no matter how you slice it, Bruce will initially be behind.
by raiders4liffe on Apr 25, 2010 11:16 AM PDT up reply actions
Well
I will agree to a point but in the training room far too often stoopid trainers push you just too much and give you the “work through it” “step up and be a man” BS. So if we were there to see how it all went down I would say a little bit of both of what you said. Thats usually how it goes.

Not a fan of your depth charts.

but its still real early
there are going to be some more moves done before training camp.

Yeah there will be some changes
But may I ask, what don’t you like?
I don't want another player or pick in return, all I want is.... a SHRUBBERY!

I think.......
Barnes should be starting at RT, he is a better run blocker then pass blocker and has said he wants to play there, since he lost the job to Hendo.
Langston Walker was one of our best interior guys last year and he isn’t even on there.
You have Thomas Howard starting, when Trevor Scott played light years ahead of him and we have more players on the D-line and less need for Scott at DE.
I don’t think we’ll see the 3-4 like everyone else thinks we will. We are a 4-3 and from the looks of things we are going to be a blitz heavy team with heavy line rotation. I think this hybrid stuff is just going to be a distraction.

Oops I forgot about Langston actually I'll put him on there
I’m wondering when Scott played light years ahead of him. He played just a couple games at LB and he was good but we need Howard playing to be a better defense. No way he just gets benched

my 4-3 chart
DE(left to right): Matt S. or Scott, Kelly, Seymour, Houston
LBs(left to right): Howard, McClain, Wimbley or Travis Geothel
DBs(left to right): Asomugha, Branch, Mitchell, McFadden
watch
we’ll run a 4-2-5. That would be sweet actually assuming our LBs stay toward the middle:
My traditional 4 stated from above: DE(left to right): Matt S. or Scott, Kelly, Seymour, Houston
LBs: McClain, Howard
DBs: Asomugha, Branch, Mitchell or huff, McFadden, and Johnson(slot).
What do you guys think?
the LBs must stick toward the middle though.
and we can blitz confusingly, and we can cover the TE with Johnson.
I love Mitchell in the hybrid LB/S position he played towards the end of last year
this defence will be innovative and super fun to watch

I don't know to much about the 4-2-5
So it looks like Aso and Mcfadden at corner, Branch at SS and Huff/Mitchell at FS with a slot corner and that being Johnson. I’d rather have Mitchell guarding TE’s and playing in the box rather than Johnson.

So much versatility
It fits our personnel as well. Maybe thats what there going to do when they said we would really like what they had planned

Yeah esp when you look at our S’s Mitchell and Branch can lay the wood like LBs almost

Okay just looked up the 4-2-5 on google
I’d much rather have Mitch in the slot and I’d put him in the box a lot. CJ doesn’t seem strong enough to guard tight ends. He could sub in for Mcfadden every now and than and when we are in passing situations we can sub in CJ and Routt
I don't want another player or pick in return, all I want is.... a SHRUBBERY!

I do a lot
I think we have a lot of flexibility with the guys we have. Were going to have a base 4-3 we already know this and were going to give 3-4 looks as well. I think we should run the 4-3 60% of the time (since it’s our base) and the 3-4 and 4-2-5 20% of the time. The offense wouldn’t know how to attack us

One issue though
Where does Wimbley fit in? If we ran the 4-2-5 it shouldn’t be a full time defense but a change of pace type of thing.

Attacking others only attacks yourself
McClain would be the Nnamdi in that scheme and the Missel would be closer to the action

'the Nnamdi" in the sense of steering traffic the other way

does anyone know what that formation is?

If we can bring the presure but from the number of DEs and OLBs we've accumulated it seems that that
won’t be the norm.

That would unman most QBs
Seymour DE
Kelly DT
Bryant NT
Houston DT
Scott DE
Wimbley
McClain
Asomugha CB
Branch SS
Mitchell FS
Huff CB

good thing? and wouldn't Howard be next to McClain?

Consider also a 7-1-3
Wimbley -slot DE
Seymour DE
Kelly DT
Bryant NT
Houston DT
Shaughnessy DE
Scott -Slot DE
McClain LB
Asomugha CB
Branch S
Huff CB

I think all teams had 4 QB depth chart everytime they played them that year just because of the beating.
