Darren McFadden Vs. Michael Bush

McFadden was drafted with the fourth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Raiders signed McFadden to a six-year, $60.1 million contract which included $26 million in guarantees. Contract negotiation was rapid due to Raider fears of a second consecutive contract holdout as was the case with JaMarcus Russell in 2007.
Rookie year-McFadden scored his first professional touchdown against the Chiefs on September 14, 2008, his second NFL game, in which he gained 164 yards on 21 carries. McFadden also suffered an injury to his big toe in this game, which limited him for the next 14 games, including three missed games. He ended the season with 499 yards on 113 attempts, with four touchdowns. He also made 29 receptions for 285 yards.
Last year he was injured and played 3rd string in alot of games. He only lost two fumbles last year though and this is suppose to be his breakout year.
He is one of the only Home Run Hitters we have.

Michael Bush was drafted in the 4th round of the 2007 NFL draft. With his broken leg still hobbling him he was injured for his whole rookie season.Bush finally returned to the football field in 2008. He was the Raiders' third string halfback but saw some action because of injuries to Darren McFadden and Justin Fargas. He also filled in as a blocking fullback. In 08 Bush rushed for 177 yards on 27 carries and 2 touchdowns to help Oakland deny Tampa a spot in the playoffs.
He's proven he can start in this league.
Last year was bad year for both running backs but you can't blame them with our passing game.
Anyway Cable said there will not be any smash and dash next year we will have 1 everydown back.
There's a rumor saying Bush takes him self out of the game. I really hope that's not true. Remember the Replacements "Winners always want the ball... when the game is on the line".

Basically, here’s how it should happen. Darren McFadden should get the ball on the perimeter where his speed can be used to our advantage. Michael Bush should be used for pounding the rock between the tackles. That way, both running backs get their touches and they’re fresh. Also, McFadden should be used in the passing game like he was a bit down the stretch of last season. I think it’s pretty simple and I hope the coaching staff can figure that out.

That’s what Jason Campbell is for.

Do you mean for audibles or passing?
Either way. It only takes a couple of McFadden runs up the middle or Bush to the outside to keep defenses from stacking against a tendency.
I really think Bush can do it all running the ball. Let’s just hope he is in shape. With the quality guys the team is bringing in and the losers they are dumping it is going to put more pressure on everyone to be in shape.
I think when people are being funny, they are actually being serious and when people are being serious, it's actually really funny.

I meant for passing initially, but yeah, audibles as well now that I think about it more.

I guess Zorn had really taken away Campbell's audibles,
it’ll be interesting to see how he is with this next year. Also, none of this is going to matter if the line isn’t blocking effectively.

Is it really possible to do a vs.
When DMF hasn’t even shown he can stay healthy or hang on to the football?
I think we shuold trade Darren while he's still worth something.
He wsa picked way to high and is being payed way to much to be a compliment back.
I doubt McFadden will make much out of himself this year. He just falls over if there’s a slight breeze. Because of this he can never be a “home-run” threat.
Meanwhile Bush can bust in through the middle and catch the ball consistently out of the backfield. And Bush making a play after a catch versus corners and safeties is a matchup I like.
Bush’s speed is underrated but if you watch the Bucs game and the Denver game last year, you can see he has some good speed to him for a big power guy. Bush is a young Jamal Lewis back in the days when he played for Baltimore and was tearing it up there. If Bush gets his 20 carries and the passing game can elevate itself, then I see Bush as a 1,000 yard rusher.

Least We Forget
Bush was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate before he broke his leg. Let him wear out the defense for three quarters and then throw a good dose of DMC at them. Bush should be a 1,000 runner this year.
good post raiderfan21 and nice pics!
i voted for bush but i do like them both as a 1-2 punch

DMC and Bush are "Hell's Bells"
Bush gets the advantage but it doesn’t take away anything from DMC. He needs his too. The more these guys get involved the easier the game is for everyone else on the team. They are the offensive focal point or should be.

Heh
Always a theory on AC/DC. When Bon Scott died, so did they, they just didn’t know it. See how commercial they got. Therefore I propose…
Soulfly, the official music of the Oakland Raiders.
Now watch somebody come along and suggest something like Cannibal Corpse.
how about Lamb of God

I'm pretty sure Bush is the more complete back.
therefore, he should start.

???
Not today. 2005 and before we were, but not now. If you want explanations here it is:
McFadden is:
1) injury prone
2) doesn’t have much strength
3) pretty stiff in terms of quickness, and pretty much only has strait line speed
4) not much balance at the moment, as he doesn’t have very good hip movement, and not a very low center of gravity
5) can catch in the backfield, and can pretty much ONLY utilize his speed on pitches and screens
Bush is:
1) has speed, strength, and added with some quickness
2) low center of gravity
3) better vision
4) more than just strait line speed
5) low center of gravity
6) better balance
7) can catch when called upon
8) he can run in between the tackles successfully, as well as running on the outside
Bush is just overall more of a complete package. Plus McFadden has fumbling issues. AND Bush is a WAY better blocker. McFadden should be used on screens, line him up as a receiver, or wildcat, an maybe as a 3rd down specialist.
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
McFadden was injury prone the day we drafted him.
Bush takes him self out of games. McFadden wants the ball and could lineup anywhere on the offense. Not saying Bush is bad just saying McFadden hasn’t had alot to work with.
Bush doesn't really do that as much as mcfadden
mcfadden fumbles more, gets tackled for short yardage more, and is less inconsistent than bush is. Pus, mcfadden gets injured A LOT, and Bush so far has been healthy.
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
and where exactly was this rumor that he takes himself out of games???
I remember he refused to be a fullback, which got a -1 from me, but I don’t think he takes himself out of games.
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
It was
After Cable ran him something six straight runs in a row. People made it sound like Bush was lazy even though any sensible coach rotates the backs, alternates who gets the ball.
1st play: runs on the outside. good blocking, open field.
2nd play: Showed some maroney vision, where he saw a big hole in the middle, and went for it. that’s good and all, but I notice his hips were sort of stiff, and the hole was pretty big. And great blocking.
3rd play: Good. He showed vision to change direction. but hips are STILL STIFF.
4th play: Pitch play. how he’s supposed to be used.
5th play: Good. He just ran through. looked like good blocking, but it appears he out ran the defender who was at the line. A sloppy juke after. at least he went through the hole.
6th play: screen pass. what he should be used for as well. Stiff hips, but he didn’t need to use quickness there, just speed. which is what a SCREEN allows him to do.
7th play: God. He ran in between the tackles with confidence and determination.
8th play: Pitch play, how he should be used. but shown the stiff hips which results in the sloppy juking.
9th Play: Screen pass.
10th play: Screen pass.
11th play: And pitch. he ran through the tackles well, with great vision. very nice.
But in terms of consistency? Bush is more consistent. He grinds out as much yards as possible. This is all I could really find: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL5CBGEzbpk&feature=related

look how most were pitches and screens.
that how he should be used.
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
It just doesn't seem like Bush cares
I like both of them but Cable said he wants one back and i kinda hope McFadden gets the job
I'm not really gonna say that Bush cares or not
simply because we really know, so accusing him of that is just wrong. As of now, I think we should have Bush start.
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
HE CAN RUN THE WILDCAT, DID HIM GOOD IN COLLEGE.
the coach or o coordinator of the dolphins was macfaddenn ’s coach and he can throw the ball. not sure on bush throwing the hb option play or run the wildcat, but then again bush can give you extra yards with his power running
by sports with steve on May 9, 2010 1:03 AM PDT up reply actions
our running style doesn't use the wildcat though, as much as I'd like to see it with mcfadden.
but even IF WE DID run the wildcat, it’s likely bush won’t be in there in the first place, but on normal running plays, bush should be doing those.
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
Thank You!
He’s done nothing to prove his worth. It used to be his speed, but we now have Jacoby Ford. He can play HB for pitches and screens. Plus, he’s probably faster, more agile, less injruy prone and won’t fall during two-hand touch.
no trade yet
let’s see if he can stay healthy. if healthy, what can he do – up the middle without fumbling would be nice. if he’s incapable of running up the middle, than there’s no predictability and will resemble a Reggie Bush instead of CJ who has flash. I don’t see another RB available at this point.

YEA! Lets do it!
And When Bush gets hert or takes himself out we can put ford in right? Cause thats what a playoff team would do. My money is on DMac coming out in preseason recking defenses and the announcers saying"This guy is good they have to find a way to keep him on the field". Like they always do.
by raiderfan21 on May 10, 2010 10:34 AM PDT up reply actions
Ford is just used as a compliment to Bush. When Bush is tired or injured, just simply put in
Rock Cartwright or Michael Bennet.
I think it's more likely that McFadden will get hurt than Bush...

We Need 2 healthy Starting Backs in this League, Maybe 3
so I am not for trading DMC. I think Bush should start and do the bulk of the pounding, while DMC should get the bulk of outside runs, screens, etc., although as the game wears on we can use his fresher legs against the D. But this is no longer a 1 back League, and yer asking for trouble with only 1 starter and an old guy (Rock Cartwright) to back him up. As we have seen, this is no longer a 1 QB League either. Overall from what I have seen over the last couple of years Bush is just a better back right now. i don’t care cow much we’ve paid DMC, you don’t start a guy because of his paycheck, you start him because he is the better player, period. Now having said all that, we may find that with a different O Line and a different QB, not to mention moore seasoning for our WRs, both our backs may end up doing much better this year, and I sincerely hope that is the case. But let’s play it out first and see what happens.

Big McLargehuge!

thats what we had last year with fargas.
now it is bennett/washington and maybe someone who gets cut and the raiders pick up . please not gary russell. my understanding is washington can play fb/hb

I'm down for getting Gaither for either Bey or McFadden - our O-line will keep us from advancing in playoffs
by Sons-of-Blanda on May 10, 2010 4:45 PM PDT up reply actions
I wouldn't trade Bey, but I would definitely trade Darren McFadden. But I don't think Baltimor needs another RB.
Bey is pretty much still a rookie, and when he see sucess somewhere else, we’ll sorely regret ever trading him.
Instead of Bey, I’d trade Michael Huff and our 2nd. Or Khaliff Barnes, Michael Huff and our 2012 3rd.
Baltimore would probably take Bey without a draft pick. With Mitchell as our option, Huff would be a good trade
and send Barnes along too. Or, give them Henderson and Barnes for Gaither.
by Sons-of-Blanda on May 10, 2010 8:10 PM PDT up reply actions
They're saying
Mitchell still can’t cover, is only good for hitting people. Maybe we ought to trade him instead, now that Huff is finally coming into his own.
I don't think Mitchell has shown enough to be given up on yet.
However the same can be said for Heyward-Bey and McFadden as well. Mallard Davis’ assessment makes the most sense by having Bush be the primary back but also letting McFadden get carries in the second half. Also RRS is right in getting him in space on pitches and screens. Also why not run a single back offense alternating both Bush and McFadden by spreading the defense out and allowing McFadden to use his speed to get to the edge. Another option is the “option”. Both backs have experience using this and I’m hoping Hue Jackson will add another element to this offense since now that LT is gone there isn’t another RB running the option play.
