Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

FYI: TO All FANS OF THE RAIDERNATION

For your enjoyment.  NFL channel is currently showing the 1976 SuperBowl Raiders!!! Followed by the 1980 SuperBowl year !!!

This is what needed for this year's team, ATTITUDE !!!!!  To be replayed @11pm eastern, 8pm pacific !!! Enjoy !!!

Star-divide

Looking at this tells me that, if our Defense is going to step up like on paper they should, SOMEONE HAS TOO,  and I mean HAS TOO, be that leader, the INTIMIDATOR, that has always been a part of Raider FootBall. In the past, it was our DB's, with some other showing up!!! Matuzak, Ted(The Stork)Hendricks, Sistrunk, Vilipiano, and the list goes on. Whos going to be the one, or GROUP to take the REIGNS !!! D-LINE ??? LB's ??? DB's ???? Or a single player, Seymour ??? McClain??? Houston ??? Branch ??? Nnamdi ???

What was that show, that use to say : SO&SO COME ON DOWN !!! Well, we need someone to step up, and COME ON DOWN !!!! ENJOY THE SHOWS !!!!

Sorry for being late with this Info !!!

S&B wouldn’t let me post with Just the TV Info, but while I was watching the “76” SB season, inspiration hit me about what’s needed for this team this YEAR !!! A leader HAS to EMERGE for us !!!! An ATTITUDE, be it on OFFENSE OR DEFENSE !!!

by papabegood on Jul 14, 2010 6:24 PM PDT reply actions

Houston emerged in OTAs with that Marcus Pullo / Lucius Voremus attitude of old. My money's on Lamarr for being

the Raider rookie of the year and for emerging as a paradigm Raider. Play Seymour inside with Henderson and rotate (or trade) Kelly. Then with Cool Hand Matt Shaughnessy on complementary end we’ve got our front four to answer any line in the Division and, peut et, the schedule (although I’d love to add Albert the ruthless who is much poorly maligned.

I knew you would be 1st !!!

And I see u still man crushing on FAT AL, And I’m right there with you !!!! Heard he drop 30 lbs working out on his own !!!! Think he’s got an attitude going on ? Think he wants to prove something !!!!! I say, GO GET HIM !!!! What’s the old saying: Defense Wins Championships !!!!

The Run Defense should be fine-- McCain, Henderson, & Houston are studs

My only concern is the O-line. With the speed in the skilled positions, hopefully Jackson (OC) will use a lot of quick hitting slants & screens to take the pressure of the O-line & save Campbell from a concussion.

by Alpha-Male-DC on Jul 14, 2010 8:53 PM PDT reply actions

I watched those guys on PTI talking about Haynesworth and how he is lost 30 lbs.

They also said he may be the most selfish player in all of sports right now. Also for a guy to come in and play NT, you wouldn’t expect him to drop so much weight as he reportedly has. If he really has dropped that much I wouldn’t be surprised that Washington has already given him the ok to start negotiating a trade with other teams who play a more conventional 4-3 and him play his original UT position where his money was made. Also to re: to what Alpha-Male-DC said, this is the first time in years I’ve heard the words when referring to the Raiders that the run defense should be fine. I really hope this is true because our pass defense should be ranked in the top 5 alone by default because of Nmamdi’s presence.

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother.

So true, So true !!!

Let’s just say ….. IF, Fat Al Has the go ahead, with the Idea he wants to prove something !!! To prove he is as good as HE thinks he is, and what WE think he could become, and to give the big F&^k U to all those who has been Talking a whole lot of shit, What better place to play THIS year than Oakland !!! And with Bruce Allen in Washington, even though punkazz Shanahan is there, Which I think would be the one stumbling block to any deals, (doesn’t he have the final sayso?) because you know he would love to butt(u kno what) out of Big Al D. If he doesn’t ask for the moon & more in a trade, I say go for it. Becoming the #1 Defense in the whole NFL would be a nice big MIDDLE finger to the rest of the league !!!! Watch out now!!! I think Mr. Davis would have a long, HARD talk with Fat Albert, before anything is done !!!!

by papabegood on Jul 14, 2010 11:45 PM PDT up reply actions

Albert formed a plan and had the discipline (or spite) to lose enough weight to disqualify myself from the NT position

but continue cooperating with all T&Cs of contract. Don’t underestimate anyone named “Al”

The special

on the ’83 team was awesome a few weeks back too. Brought a tear to my eye. Todd Christensen was great for the interview and Howie recalling Lyle and how they were as a team was awesome.
No matter how its cut we need character players for yesteryear when we were feared by all and were a threat to bust out and win every year.
Lester, Lyle, Matuzak, Millen, Atkinson, Tatum et al feared by the league. Where are our tough players that do more than talk and lay the wood every week.

Houston and McClain will both vie for rookie game changers of the year

Their combined presence will be difficult to separate into individual efforts, making it even more difficult to choose.

McClain

is at the higher profile position. I think they’ll both be great and for a while, but McClain, if he does well, which I expect he will, should get the bulk of the love.

I like Houston’s athleticism. A HS RB? He should be a handful on the edge, and I’d like to see him at the 3 on passing downs. Remember how effective Tuck was at DT for the Giants in the Super Bowl? I’m sure Waufle will rotate multiple players at multiple positions. It should be fun to watch…CAN’T WAIT!!!

What a great transition. Bringing rb footwork and athleticism to the rush position?

You know he’s gonna have far superior footwork over most guards and tackles he’ll face, and he’s strong with a nasty streak.

He should be

devastating at the 3 on passing downs. His quickness should be Sapp-like. We really shouldn’t have to blitz much on passing downs because of the personnel we deploy into a four man front. Both Dick and Houston have a huge advantage over most guards. Henderson and Bryant can collapse from the nose. Scott, Wimbley and Groves have great speed from the edge. The stunts we can run with certain personnel groups is staggering. Putting Houston at the three and crashing whomever we have lined up as the strong side 6 technique DE then looping Houston around the end could be one helluva a weapon if deployed right….

by transparent58 on Jul 16, 2010 8:40 AM PDT up reply actions

I cannot tell you all how much I am enjoying breaking down the strengths this new personnel exhibits with you all

and even moreso speculating as to how it will manifest itself on the field! And it seems we’re all very much in agreement about how strong they appear, and the mainstream media is following suit! Not that I give two shits about that really, but even the most devout of haters are saying it harmoniously: " LOOK OUT FOR THEM RRRAAAAIIIIIIDDDDUUUUHHHHHSSSSS!!!!!"

I’m just fine with the rest of them still saying, “lay down, it’s Raider week.” Keep on sayin’ that nonsense. We like it that way.

Ted ("the Mad Stork") Hendricks

is and always has been my favorite player
Loved him on the Colts and and on the Raiders
He ALWAYS made clutch game-changing plays

by Raaddad on Jul 15, 2010 1:37 PM PDT reply actions

He used to taunt opposing qbs and offensive coordinators by identifying play calls by alignmnents before the snap

“You can’t call that shit on me!”

This, on few hours of sleep, and after partying into the wee hours of the morning prior to gameday. He is and always will be in a league of his own.

Was he the one who said he was on Burbon Street to make sure all other Raiders weren't out there...

…since that trip vs Philly was supposed to be business? Classic.

It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.

I believe

it was Matuzak that did that. On the special for the ’80 team they were indicating it was Matuzak.

That was Matuszak. Another guy who could do it. Flores didn't give a hoot if you showed up and played like they did

Matuszak was pretty vocal about how hardcore Vermeil was as a coach.

Yeah

Can’t fit a blade of grass up his ass LOL! Matuszak lived life hard and died with his demons unfortunately.

It was a different game, back then

most QBs called their own plays. A freedom few QBs have these days. Outside Favre, P. Manning, Brady, and Brees I’m not sure very many QBs have as much leeway as guys like Stabler had.

I really enjoyed the special on the 76 Raiders. I was born in November of 76 so I obviously missed out on that season and was too young to truly appreciate the Madden teams of the 70’s. As a student of the game, and a fan of the Raiders I eat up all the info I can on the glory days, and, though he became a caricature of himself as an announcer, Madden exemplified the Raider way.

Mr.Papabegood

I agree those were great times and I also see that atmosphere returning in the near future. It will be interesting who returns to the super bowl first,The Raiders or those other guys from across the bay.The Warriors are watchable again and The Giants have a great young pitching staff that will be making some noise for a few more years, and who knows what will happen with The A’s.I only hope that it happens again so fans like transparent can enjoy The Great Times like we did.
