Playoffs this Year?

Is this the Year That the Silver and Black get back on track? The Raiders have upgraded at MLB and DT, Seymour has a full year in the system so our run "D" should be much improved. With the addition of JC, our QB and higher expectations from the young WR's. This should be our year to make a return to a familiar place the post season. Just win Baby, Just Win, Go RAIDERZ!

It's still the Dolts division to lose

They have the best QB in our division. I hope the departure of LaDanian has affected the team more than they even know.

Other than that, I think we have a clear shot against the Cheaps and the “New Throwing Motion” Donkeys.

Hue Jackson is no joke, and Jason Campbell is better than the critics give him credit for. The defense is looking GOOD.

Yes, Jason Campbell is better than your ex-fatass-waste of space-big arm- jackass, Jamarcus, but Campbell is Yet again in a new system, but this time has ALL new teammates. Plus you have to realize that your O-line, looks alot like ours (Chiefs), NO real answers and alot of question marks!

So dont go drinking that Kool-aid too much, or you will just get yourself completely let down. I would say that for each of our teams 8-8 would be an effing godsend. Playoffs would be a freaking miracle, but do not think that your shit dont stink and you will just all the sudden improve your team to be playing sound, fundamental football that it takes to win Championships!

Oh and your HC… dont take this too personal…. is a f*(king moron! I know you guys will try and call me out and prove me worng, but, just watch the season and see how many times you will sit there and wonder “what the f*ck is he thinking/doing” We over at AP had to endure this all the time with Herm, and also many times last year with Haley, but Haley has proven something somewhere to be trusted by more than just by a man that already is laying in his grave, cough, Al Davis

And they only have Bowe as a weapon.... sad. McCluster will be out on IR, trust me his frame wont hold up to real NFL LB's

We have guys who have major upside and can suddenly prove their talent (DHB!, Murphy, Chaz, Miller) Never heard of you guys’ TE and who’s the other Wide reciever?
Don’t worry readANDgold we have a new OC in Jackson that will call the plays, therefore the HC Cable just needs to manage and keep stability, sub-ins during a game, etc..

When Tom Cable doesn’t call the plays, He’s a great coach; better than Haley’s lanky fifth grader ass. I don’t know how the DT’s or O-linemen listen to that small man.

I'll try and answer you questions without name calling, which seems to be the thing to do in this Blog.

We have Bowe, Chambers, J.Urban, and D.McCluster who will be used more as a Slot WR. Cassel has been in since March i think, so he’s way head of the game, not only that but he has C.Weis to help him out, and we aren’t going to be firing our OC right before the season starts. For the first time in years our guys get the chance to get use to each other through out the off-season.
D.McCluster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb-chWh64Dc&feature=related did 20 reps of 225 at the combine, so I’m not to worried about him holding up, not only that but you have to be able to touch him to tackle him.
At TE we have L.Pope, B.Cottam, and T.Moeaki http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GoGPZ-43CY whom we got in the draft.

I don’t know if you watch ESPN at all, but numerous people have said that Oakland is a team to watch in the AFC. Oakland, not Kansas City. Oakland. You know why? Cause Kansas City has yet to do anything but prove they can attract big named coaches.. You’re still the same team who loses year in and year out.

Jake are you sure you want to stand by those comments?

Yes we have big name coaches, but we have to play some games first to prove anything else. We been bad the last 4 years, if anything the Raiders are the team that loses year after year, maybe you should go check your teams history before you open your mouth.

by CPT.Caveman on Jul 22, 2010 5:44 PM PDT up reply actions

History Of Oakland:

The Raiders have been to five total SuperBowls. Four as Oakland and one as LA. They won three of those five. The three wins coming in SuperBowls XI, XV, and XVIII. The two losses coming in SuperBowls II and XXXVII.

Superbowl wins: 3
Conference Chamionships: 4
Division Championships: 15
Playoff appearances: 21

History Of The Chiefs:

The Chiefs have won one Super Bowl. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 23-7, in Super Bowl IV.

Superbowl wins: 1.
Conference champioships: 0. Haha.
Division champioships: 8. Almost half as much as Oaklands.
Playoff appearences: 15.

Raider Nation, bitch.

by patriotguy2 on Jul 23, 2010 12:35 PM PDT up reply actions

I could say the same for you. Are you looking at how we played last year or the past 4 years.

I’ll admit there defense looks pretty good, but the offense is a big question mark, as well as coaching.
J.Campbell is a upgrade, but we’ll need time to learn the offense.
Let me ask you this, have you been going to the AP since March to be able to know whats going on with the Chiefs? Have you watched all the video’s of the players and what they say about this years team? Do you know how we will use our new guys to help improve our team on both sides of the ball? Or do you just hangout in here? The Chiefs don’t just draft players because there fast, it takes a little more than that to be good in the NFL, and while the Raiders did have a good draft this year it doesn’t make up for the previous 5 or 6.

by CPT.Caveman on Jul 23, 2010 1:05 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm a raider fan as well. I know some things about the chiefs, but I will admit, I don't know as much about them as you do.

I don’t look at past team performances much at all, unless I’m trying to make some kind of point(like you did).

I know the offense is a question mark, but so is yours.

Cassel is a question mark. Thomas Jones is pretty good(The jets OL were hysterically awesome at run blocking last year), but I do like Charles. the Chiefs OL needs to be worked on a bit. Bowe and Chambers are average, but have yet to show awesomeness(maybe due to Cassel being new).

Campbell is going to be learning a new system, so I don’t think he will be our difference maker this year. I think our running game will be yet again, our offense. I’d rather have Grad behind our OL to tell you the truth, as he displays chemistry between him, louis murphy, and Chaz.

Defensive-wise, you guys got an awesome safety in Berry, and Flowers is a pro-bowler. Jackson has been disappointing for the chiefs, but maybe he’ll break out this year. Glen Dorsey hasn’t been doing much. Besides Vrabel, your LBs are average at best. If anything, your secondary is great, but like the raiders, you need a front seven to help them out.

I do like McCluster, and I think he will be an important weapon offensively on your team.

Defensively, I’d give the edge to the Raiders.

Offensively, I think we both have many question marks especially how our QBs will perform, as well as our running game. OL wise, I think we both need one. lol

And speaking of draft, you have a drafting guru.

Also, since you are looking at our past 5-6 years of the draft, I’m not. I’m looking at our team RIGHT NOW, and the players they brought in such as McClain, Henderson, Campbell, Houston, 2 OL in the draft, Ford(who is a 3rd down specialist much like Kevin Faulk).

I felt that we have improved much more this season than you guys have, AND we have gotten rid of bad eggs such as russel and gerard warren. We have no doubt a VERY much improved team.

So because I don’t know how as much about the chiefs as you do(mainly because you are a chiefs fan), how does Javier Arenas and Moeki look in the camps? McCluster(awesome I believe)? Cassel? Jackson? Dorsey?

Over all this is the year for our 2nd and 3rd year guys to get it done.

As far as our pass rush is concerned it will come from different areas, not the front 3. Lots of blitzing from the secondary, and we got a couple of young guys we hope will pan out at OLB to get some pressure also along with T.Hali. C.Sheffield who we got in the draft, and C.Greenwood whom we got from the CFL. He was the 3rd overall pick in their draft but wasn’t signed by his team yet, so in a way we stole him.

by CPT.Caveman on Jul 23, 2010 1:55 PM PDT up reply actions

I didn't think it will come from your front 3 only.

Usually in a 3-4, blitzing can come from almost anywhere, depending on your personal. I expect Vrabel and Arenas to blitz the most. I don’t know much about Hali or Greenwood or Schffield, but if they have more than a pass rush, that you guys should be pretty good at LB. The thing is, a 3-4 LB needs to be great in run stopping as well, as 3 DL isn’t going to cut it. LBs are VERY important in that scheme.

McClain should be awesome in the middle, as he is above average in pass coverage, and GREAT in run coverage. But I heard he sucks in blitzing(sad face). Our front 4 should be our key in the defense, as Seymour, Henderson, Kelly, and Houston should provide a great front. And Scott, Wimbley, and Howard should provide an awesome LB rotation.

Down with Big Brother!

by patriotguy2 on Jul 23, 2010 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Thanks for the honest comment.

So far in camp McCluster has shined the most, they are very impressed with his hands and route running. He will be used as a Slot WR, and is not listed as a RB on our roster. At the OTA’s he caught several passes and took them for TD, not even Berry could catch him. J.Arenas has also looked good, as you know he will be used to get after the QB and is very good at tackling. T.Moeaki has looked good too, he was the best blocking TE in the draft, but he also has good hands. He has some injury concerns but if he can stay healthy we are good at TE.
I can’t say enough about Cassel, He is one of our hardest workers on the field, and has been in since March learning and improving.

by CPT.Caveman on Jul 23, 2010 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah

McCluster will be great. No doubt Moeaki will improve your running game a bit, and help charles. I can also see him in many goal line roles.

Cassel will do better this year. I wish you guys luck.

I’d like to say this though: reason why we shouldn’t look at the raiders past few drafts is because this offseason was SO dramatic of a change in what people thought, that I can’t think in any way that past drafts would do that much, if you know what I mean.

Way to back out of the arguement…

Yes, I’m man enough to admit that the Chiefs have had a better record than us in the last 7 years. BUT, you need to admit that Oakland has had better teams in the past, AND that Oakland has a brighter future.

With Oakland it’s all or nothing, your good seasons come and go. With the Chiefs they stay pretty steady, and play good all the time except for the last 4 years, and yes i would take your Super-Bowl ring over us just playing steady. Does that make you feel any better?

I remember how much I hated the Chiefs getting in, and I genuinely feared them as a team that year. They were really good, one has to admit. And there’s no shame in losing to the eventual champion… the Colts kicked the “no run defense” monkey off their back in those playoffs.

It is true we've

had a bad streak. But the point is you’re atracting big name coaches who are supposed to be good at their job. We couldn’t get anyone decent since Gruden (and I think Kiffin would have been great, but now I think he’s an ass, but eh). So that’s part of the problem w/ us. It seems Davis is allowing the coaching staff some more leeway now, so we’re on the uprise. Is it an excuse blaming the coaches? Yup. It is the truth? Yup. What’s your excuse when the GM/owners are letting the coaches make decisions?

Matt Cassel is slightly underrated. If he has a better OL(not like the pats, just a better OL), he can be good. Plus, he was playing in a new system, despite Pioli being the GM. Cassel is in his second year now, so you might see a different Cassel this year.

McCluster will greatly help him this year. Cassel is also one of the best at play action. Our running game and non-revolving door O-line this year will help.

I’m predicting about 3,100 yards, 25 TD’s and 18 INT’s with 34 Sacks

Jamaal Charles...Enough said.

by Chiefsfan85 on Jul 24, 2010 8:04 PM PDT up reply actions

any great slot WR would help anybody, not just Cassel.

Also, I wouldn’t say welker was key for him all the time. There were many times that the OL and kevin faulk helped him out greatly as well. Also, Moss just getting double teams all the time greatly helped Welker, and the passing game in general for cassel.

Yeah..

but Cassel seems to NEED a slot WR to be successful. The o-line held up but Cassel still held on to the ball too long. That’s just what he does taking after Rodgers and Roethlisrapist.

I’m sure he’ll do much better this year with Chambers and Bowe both being an option for all 16 games, Urban is a big targer, McCluster in the slot. Then we have a rookie TE can can help block and has great hands (If stays healthy). Not to mention the fact that Jones and Charles have good hands coming out of the backfield.

I’m not saying he’ll be top 10 QB but he’ll be vastly improved from last year. I’m suspected in the middle of the pack somewhere.

Jamaal Charles...Enough said.

by Chiefsfan85 on Jul 24, 2010 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions

I agree. I think Cassel will be improved this year.

With a year in the system, mccluster(who I hear amazing things about. not surprised), and possibly a slightly improved running game(thomas jones is an improvement, but he IS overrated a bit because the jets OL last year was overpowered in run blocking. also jones is okay in pass catching. he wasn’t asked to do too much in that category. Leon Washington was usually the one).

We’ll have to see what Bowe and Chambers does this year though. They are a toss up for me. But I have no doubt that Cassel will have slightly better chemistry with them.

Cassel will be better with the chiefs this year. as long as he doesn’t play better against the raiders. ;)

as a side note

I do think he was over-paid dramatically. that wasn’t smart on pioli’s part.

Part of me that’s a pats fan wants him to be better this year for the sake of his career, because if he plays like last year(which he had an okay year), then I can safely say that Cassel was not a VERY good investment for you guys.

BUT, seeing as how I am a Raider fan as well, and that Cassel is now on our proud rivals, I hope Cassel eats dirt everytime he drops back. :P

You just wait and see

I coach ball for a living. I see Campbell as a really good QB who hasn’t had the opportunity to settle into a system. He went through multiple systems in Washington—-and in college, yet still managed to put up decent numbers despite having the shittiest line in football(during his pro career). Oakland has a better O-line than Washington has been fielding, not by a huge margin, but they are definately better. Campbell is fundamentally sound, he has VERY good footwork, and has good awareness in the pocket. JC doesn’t like to gamble—which is good and bad. I like the fact that he is fond of making the “safe” pass, however, he needs to have some confidence in his recievers coached into him so he will throw into traffic a little more. Hue Jackson’s crew is likely working on that as we speak.

Awareness can be debatable.

He throws on the run quite a bit.

Also, his awareness will be displayed differently here because he’s playing with a different OL, and will have to get used to where the blitzes will be from different teams in our division, and how they affect the raiders OL.

Another reason why I’d rather have Grad behind center for this one year. He’s used to our OL already. I’d rather have Campbell sit for a year, and learn the system.

No. Campbell is ten times the talent as Grad. Grad plays with sheer determination, and thats a good thing, but Campbell is the better QB.

Yes, but

Russell was hailed as a “potential” great. Cassell was immediately hailed as the “savior of the Chiefs franchise”. He isn’t. He will never be. The Chiefs simply don’t have the core offense that ol’ Cassell played with in New England. The Chiefs are 4 years of good offseasons away from having that caliber of offense.

Chargers are the key

I dont believe the Broncos or Chiefs can take the division. Beat the Chargers twice and were in. We have to win our division rivalry games.

by 22goose on Jul 18, 2010 10:22 PM PDT reply actions

My prediction:

Record: 10-6

AFC West: 2nd(chargers get 1st… again…)

Seed: 5th or 6th seed

Playoff results: We will lose to someone, BUT the Raiders proved that they are no longer a joke, and are BIG contenders for next year.

Do I think we can win the division… absolutely. As of this moment though, I have to give it to the dolts(AS OF NOW). I truly think we are the second best team in the division though. This team shall surprise many this year, and our defense will be top 10. There is no doubt in my mind, we have a top 1o defense. I am making a statement. TOP 10.

McFadden and Bush will be dangerous this year, assuming we

1. run the ball often

2. Bush will be the primary back

3. Use McFadden in different packages

4. Use Ford in 3rd downs(he will be our Kevin Faulk of the raiders. If you don’t know who Kevin Faulk is, I’ll tell while face palming myself).

5. We be creative in mixing Bush and McFadden

Our passing game, with either Grad or Campbell(for some reason, I like Grad A LOT better, but he is injured, so Campbell will likely start), will be SLIGHTLY above average, but only because(assuming Campbell starts):

1. This is Campbell’s first year

2. Campbell will have to get used to his receivers, and build chemistry

3. I don’t exactly know how accurate he is compared to Grad. And for some odd reason his skill reminds me of a mix between Donovan McNabb(throwing) and Michael Vick(running, although not as fast). How he plays is a question mark for me at the moment.

by patriotguy2 on Jul 19, 2010 12:00 PM PDT up reply actions

i love the optimism

why not. we’re not even in camp. my point that I’m tired of making and will officially stop, is our OL is mediocre at best. I hope that they come in with a chip on their shoulders to prove naysayers like myself wrong. I really do. On paper, I see a lot of players, just not enough quality. Hence, I’m happy at 8-8 with a shot at 10-6 the following year when the rookies develop. JC will perform but can McD run without a line?

by raiders4liffe on Jul 19, 2010 11:58 PM PDT up reply actions

McD can catch.

McFadden can run on the perimeter, or catch screens, or line up at WR(if needed). Bush will be doing the more running I would believe.

As long as the coaches don’t restrict McFadden to running, we should be able to see Mcfadden turn into a BIG weapon on the offense.

Playoffs this Year? Why not?

The pieces are in place for us to make a serious run at the playoffs.

by SILVER AND BLACK SURFER on Jul 21, 2010 8:13 PM PDT reply actions

While there are a great many reasons to be optimistic

there are a great many more to remain cautious before we go predicting playoffs.

It makes sense that our names are being thrown a bone as playoff contenders when what we’re seeing is a Raider team that clearly made some key improvements in the offseason.

Got a play caller. It’s the first time since Gruden we’ve had a coach get a real shot and get some cohesion. We have a qb on our roster now. Do we still have weaknesses? Absolutely.

Have we addressed many of them? Yes, and we have done it well, but the truth is it remains lip service until it equates to Ws on Sunday, and we have yet to prove we can do that.

Some media pundits see the Chargers on the decline, and the other three teams in the league on the up and up. We’ll know a little more after the first few division battles. I’m expecting an improved Chiefs team, a talented Bronco team that’s doing a little too much right now, especially at the qb position, and a Chargers team, that’s well, just hype to me until they can learn to win the games that really matter. Rivers has been a tough competitor, but we gave him hell last year, and this D is only better.

Do we have a chance? Of course we do. Should we be buying our playoff tickets now? Talk to me after we’re leading the division in about week 8 or so, and I’ll make a bold prediction. Until then, these improvements must manifest in wins before we get ourselves too excited.

It seems everyone has their expectations in check. We Raiderz just want to win Baby . We Are one of the youngest teams in the league, so time is on our side.
To charger, bronco, and especially chief fans, who are on this Raiderz Blog, and are veery critical of our team, considering we have WON as many SB’s as all 3 of your teams combined we would appreciate you giving your advice to maybe your nearest high school team. also to Chief fans, since the the QB from your only SB is now on Social Security I would be embarrassed to be talking . You guys have 1 more SB win then the Kansas Jayhawks.

by Raiderz Rogers on Jul 22, 2010 10:48 PM PDT reply actions

One thing...

The comment that the Raiders winning so-and-so many SB’s relates to football knowledge is silly. This would mean that Lions fans know nothing about football, or, say, fans of the Ravens – a team that has been more consistently “good” in recent times than the Raiders – would have an invalid opinion. There’s something to be said about fans that are used to winning versus fans that are used to losing. Even if in bygone days you or I won it all multiples times, the losing culture that sets in has relevance.

Really?! You don't say!

Maybe I should say it in more simple English…

Raiderz Rogers’ logic is that a team that has won more titles than another team will consequently have a more knowledgeable fan. This is not necessarily true.

I specifically referred to the Ravens because they’ve only won a single one, and have existed for a relatively short period of time, as opposed to the Raiders.

Additionally, I chose them because they won only a short time before the Raiders got to the big game, so one could compare the last 10 years of the teams in a somewhat similar light as they were both at their best in the beginning of the decade. As well as the comment of a winning culture versus a losing culture. As teams that dominated early on, they’ve both gone down different paths since – the Ravens continued to win, the Raiders started losing and have continued to since.
