Who Will Lead Oakland In Sacks?

Oh the sack...Is there anything more sweet to see? So perfect. Violent, eligant, graceful yet oh so depressing to others. Hmmm. I have a feeling some of you will see that sentence in a different way. Ha!

QB Sack-a sack occurs when the quarterback is tackled or run out of bounds on or behind the line of scrimmage before he can throw a forward pass. That's how the dictionary says it. But that's not usually what comes out of my mouth as I see it. Usually I say something like "AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" Then I high-five everyone around me. Or maybe it's "Shit. The O-line looks pretty bad today". But it used to be "Fuckin', JaMarcus".

Oaklands' D-line is usually quite talented when it comes to getting the sack. Infact, they're one of the best at it. So now that our Run-D is fixed a lil', maybe our pass rush will get even better.

Here's the guys I'm predicting to take charge in the sack count.

Richard Seymour DE

Riversinlove_medium

Reason:

With his career and job on the line, he'll have one of his better statistical years.

Trevor Scott OLB/DE

Sp-raiders_newor_0499287005_medium

Reason:

His sack count has gone up every year since entering the league. If it continues at the same pace, he should end up with 9 sacks this year. But he can do much better than that.

LaMarr Houston DE

Get_image_medium

Reason:

He's a badass.

Tommy Kelly DT

Yes, I'm expecting him to have a BIG year.

Oakland_raiders_v_tampa_bay_buccaneers_go-f8-hpv9tl_medium

Reason:

Now that he has a new DL coach, and the right players around him, Tommy can finally excell.

Definetly. But I have a feeling LaMarr is gonna be a monster!.

I agree

Love his aggressiveness but can’t see him getting more sacks in his rookie year plus I think he will play a bit on the inside as well where i think he will be solid but struggle to get sack type penetration.

This is T-Scott’s breakout year i just feel it…..we gotta come up with a better nickname…..

Who was it that told me Kelly was Top 10 in the league in overall DT production? I know it was someone on here. I’m willing to give Kelly another chance. He hasn’t had the best of players around him and maybe with Waffle coaching the DL, he’ll suprise many.

U

R far more and maybe too forgiving in my mind. For the dump truck of cash Al gave that guy he should be tearing arms off opposing team players each and every down. He kind of reminds me of another fat fuck who was given a lot of money by Al and then laid down on the field 60% of the time named Warren Sapp.

Not to defend Warren Sapp but he was much more productive than Kelly has ever been.

He did have 11 sacks one season with us which is about 7 more than Shithouse Kelly’s best year. He needs to go & use that money on a better option at DT or LT.

Trevor Scott ..

I watched Lamarr .. He was on a great defense. As good as he is, he had A LOT of help. I’m not hating on him, Texas is my college team .. He has the right mindset and is a hell of a football player. I think that one day he will be a star ..

Trevor Scott keeps on getting better though .. And with the improved and beefed up line we have, I believe it translates into him having a great season. I would love for it to be Seymour .. I hope the point Jake made is correct.

Scott is a complete animal. And honestly, he’ll most likely end up the leader. But I have this gut feeling about Houston. He’ll probably end up being a starter and I just love it attitude.

It easily could be Seymour. He’s still a great player and with all these new additions, maybe he can live up to that 1st. Rd. pick we traded for him.

One can only hope ..

I believe Seymour can still play at a high level .. I just think Scott is so beastly, it’ll be him as the leader in the sacks department. I have that same feeling about Houston, but I still think his time will come. I think he’ll have a great rookie season .. And it will be sign of what’s to come ..

Like the post!

With the additions we have made on the DL I think Seymour will get 10+ sacks this year.
I definitely think Scott could as well.
That being said, I believe Seymour could possibly be traded.

I think this year's dynamic will make it difficult to really say who "started" and who didn't after the year is over

and look forward to that. What I am sure of, is seeing every piece of talent we have on this team being worked in somewhere, somehow. It’s an exciting time for Raider Nation.

I’m not saying he’s going to get double digit sacks and make the Pro Bowl. I should have been more clear. My bad. What I’m trying to say is that he’ll finally be the force we expected him to be and may even end up with 6 sacks.

I think it might be seymour if he plays end.

I’m guessing around 6 sacks this year for him.

Scott will get around 5(I know. Close).

But how about some love for Wimbley? I think he may have a chance now that he’s on a better team overall, and defensively. :)

Wimbley is going to be a 4-3 LB. So unless they blitz him a ridiculous amount of times, I’m not expecting him to get any more than 3-4 sacks.

The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing.

by JaKe. on Jul 26, 2010 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions

True

If he was a 3-4 OLB, we can have him as a 4-3 End sometimes on passing downs, although it seems unlikely.

by JaKe. on Jul 26, 2010 10:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Hold up.

Isn’t Scott moving to 4-3 LB as well. This team is going to show lots of 3-4 looks as well and Wimbley is such a poor cover LB that for the defense to get the most out of him is to have him rush or play mainly in 3-4 looks. Also remember he was a 4-3 end in college which is where he may be best suited.

If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother.

by dubzfan on Jul 26, 2010 3:26 PM PDT reply actions

I tend to forget about Dez at times, but he may just make me regret that. I’ve yet to see any actual proof about all this muscle mass he’s putting on, but nonetheless, he’s still the underdog.

The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing.

by JaKe. on Jul 26, 2010 4:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Even if he worked out hard in the offseason and put on a lot of mass, camp may take off the majority of the bulk

and he’ll return to a more natural playing weight. It’s intriguing because he fits his position better and matches up more suitably with big men on the interior front at a higher weight, but he’ll be productive this year, and a lot of folks who don’t know who the first NFL player named Dez Bryant really is, will know after this year.

The real OG Dezmond Bryant is a Raider, and I’d believe Jim Otto if he said he added some muscle weight when he did, whether we see the evidence or not. It’s more key to note the positions around him that will increase his stats. This guy could vie for numbers against big Dick.

Predictions

Richard Seymour: 8
Trevor Scott: 8
LaMarr Houston: 11
Tommy Kelly: 6

Scott could get plenty more, but I have a feeling LaMarr is starting next to Dick, so it’ll be hard for Scott to find PT at a position where he can flourish. Dammit, we need to move to the 3-4.

Ha! Alright, enough is enough.

Tommy Kelly’s one bad year was in 2009, and you’re writing off as if he’s the worst player in the league. Other than that, Tommy has been one of the better DT’s in the league racking up almost 300 tackles, 19 sacks and 7 forced fumbles in 7 years.

He’s NEVER played on a decent team yet he’s still managed to be a force. In 2008, TK had 5 sacks and that D-line was way worse than it was this year. Yeah, he had a bad year in ’09. But giving up on a player after one bad year is dumb. You probably wanna trade Darrius too huh?

The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing.

by JaKe. on Jul 26, 2010 5:39 PM PDT up reply actions

No

Cut/trade Kelly and wait on DHB. Kelly has not lived up to his contract. If you crunch the numbers you will see that. Most people in the NFL will agree he is way over paid. For a smaller $ contract ok no problem but not at that bloated contract he has now.

by TheLyleAlzadoPunch on Jul 27, 2010 6:30 AM PDT up reply actions

How are you expecting Wimbley to get 8 sacks? He’s a 4-3 OLB. His job is now coverage and run support. Not attacking the passer.

Ya’ll can say what you want about Kelly, but I’ll still believe this is his year. And I can’t disagree with Houston getting 5, I guess I’m just biased cause he’s my favorite player now. But, you can’t deny the guy is a mean son of a bitch.

He brings a fiery, pull-no-punches attitude and won’t suger-coat if he thinks a guy sucks.

It's why predicting will be tough too soon before preseason action starts.

I’m sure we all have ideas for our own legit reasons, but I’m with you on this one about Hue, and that the possibilities will make it difficult until the actual days before the cuts happen, to even decide.

I will be interested to see who picks who and why, and which, come to fruition.

If I had to guess I'd go with Trevor Scott

I see him ending up with 10 sacks. I think Seymour will have a solid year and I’m excited about Houston but it’s probably too much to ask for a rookie to be the teams biggest pass rusher.

by Brian Here on Jul 26, 2010 7:21 PM PDT reply actions

i'm glad u got such a boner for houston

but it is highly unlikely that he has double digit sacks…. not sayin he isnt a beast and mean as all hell, but as a rook, thats a high expectation….

i think wimbley and scott have the highest chances of being the sack leader, with maybe seymour and houston and richardson and shaughnessy all gettin a few… look for bryant and kelly to have about two each, with heard gettin a couple in there…. and dont forget our secondary sack machine, THE MISSILE MITCHELL, he will have two or more.

the reason i think wimbely or scott is that each has proven to being better as a pass rusher, and being seasoned enough to actually recognize the various formations and stunts that are common to todays NFL oline…

I personally think HOUSTON shall be a team leader in a couple seasons, and will be a beast, a cornerstone of Raider toughness and overall nastiness. I just think that it will take a year or maybe two before said beast switch is flipped and he enters RAGE-MODE….

i would love for Lamarr to be a contributor right away, a team leader, a nasty “SUMBITCH” that smacks of the mutant genetic test between Alzado, the TOOZ, and sasquatch…. yes, the sasquatch. A mean machine that breaks helmets, facemasks, and QB collarbones…. As is apparent, i should like a big nasty bastard on the line, and my hope is that henderson/seymour can instill in this kid some leadership values from the big guy side… a 2nd to DeathRo, a captain to his generalship of our D…. but as a rook is just a tad to close to unrealistic for my tastes…

Here's the thing. Take any lineup of the aforementioned dudes and line them up...

who do you double team? Who do you put your best guy on? Who do you put a back to chip block? Who lines up across from your TE, and are you sure he can handle said person?

I, like our opposing defensive coordinators, do not know that answer… and that is a good thing, a very good thing.

well

with the way the depth is, u stack it any way you want, cuz its gonna cause fits for any O-coordinator, cuase as far as schemes go, you can only do so much… whereas our dline as infinite more advantageous schemes and stunts and fakes and blitzes…. not to mention if an audible is called before the snap, as once your fatboys on oline are in stance, they best not move dem feet…. you cant shuffle a oline like you can a dline, and if you got what we got u can do some good work throwin em off…..

Defense wins CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! Hopefully we go through the season injury free, especially on offense. The more looks we can give on defense, especially with the talent it looks like we have on the Defense. The more players we have on the D, the more we can do on the D. Defense wins CHAMPIONSHIPS, LADIES !!!! Whether it’s 4-3, 3-4, 4-6, or even the 5-2, which is a look that would even fuck with Payton Manning’s head!!!
