My 3-4 am mock O-line post-Rip it good!
So its 3 am, I'm up for no reason at all. It's hard for me to even check out the site lately. I see we got Henderson at the DT spot, nice pickup btw. Work and school are kickin my butt lately. I've been reading some posts and gathering we will at least have a run defense, finally. Everyone's still wary about the offensive line, though.
Most agree, with a few exceptions of course, that barring a trade or a free agent pickup Super Mario will be the starting LT with Gallery at LG and Satele at center. The right side is still a clusterf**k though. No one really agrees who should go where. So with little thought and absolutely no research, I figured I'd give my offensive line lineup a shot and let everyone rip on it. It won't happen, of course, so no need to freak out too much.
Right Tackle: Langston Walker
He was, after all, a career tackle. He spent a good chunk of time playing the right side. And he's not Cornell Green.
Right Guard: Bruce Campbell
Gotta get his cherry popped sometime. And the alternative is Cooper Carlisle. If he's as versatile as they say, should be an easy transition.
Center: Robert Gallery
I know that half are thinking, "WTF?!?!?" and the other half are wondering why Samson isn't here. I want some nastiness in the dead center of the line. Gallery fits that, plus he's seemingly played everywhere on the line, why not take a shot here?
Left Guard: Khalif Barnes
He's a guy who spent his career at left tackle who came in last year to compete for Mario's job when he broke his ankle or foot (one of the two, told you I did no research) and ended up going in at a few places. I figure we put him on the left side which gives a veteran presence next to his former competitor.
Left Tackle: Mario Henderson
I'd put him at the right tackle spot if we got Gaither in a heartbeat. But I'm giving him this year alone to finally show that he can be a premier tackle in the league. I'll give him last year and chalk it up to "Get that fat bastard QB off this roster now" syndrome. I guarantee anyone on this site who lived through last season would have done the same thing.
So enjoy mocking my mock line. It's 4am now, it deserves it. You have a better idea?

I like it
but can I still have some of that you’re smoking?
"We want to win. The Raider fans deserve it. The Raider players deserve it, even my organization deserves it. You have to win and you have to win with a vision for the Super Bowl. That's our passion here." - Al Davis
Gallery at center?
Could potentially be a very good move, a la Don Mosebar, but the Raiders O-line suffers mightily when Gallery is not at LG. So, unless and until the Raiders find a superior or at least equivalent replacement for Gallery at LG, I don’t see that happening. Khalif Barnes is probably too slow-footed to be adequate at LG.
Your team is your child...You love it no matter what.
Khalif can't play the right side
and had a bum ankle, the only reason he didn’t take Mario’s spot in camp. I figured that he’s experienced on the left side, and we need a vet next to Mario since in this particular lineup, Gallery’s at center.

Satele will be fine. I like the unconstrained idea about Gallery though - it would be fun to see and might work
Agree Campbell will be starter at RG, if not by opener, during the course of the season. Hope Dutchboy becomes the Dutchman soon.

Putting a 3rd Rd. pick in at LT is the biggest mistake we could make.

you really think carlisle lost his spot, still vouch for the starting Oline of week one '09
after that we were plagued with injuries
Success is not measuredby what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds...

The starting line of week 1 09 included Cornell Green
which makes the point irrelevant. It’s not what you do in a week 1 loss but the course of a season that determines your team fate.

cornell the obvs. hole
but after week one we were plagued with injuries and everything fell apart forcing cable to experiment mid season…i like our oline now we can go far with them

I like it. I haven’t thought about Gallery playing Center, but it’s not that bad of a thought. He’s big, nasty and doesn’t make much mistakes. I’d definetly put him there.
Barnes should be comfortable at LG as well. He can hardly walk if he’s on the Right-Side of the line, so maybe being put back onto the Left-Side, he will return to Pro Bowl form.
Good job. And lay off the acid.

There is nothing "super"
About Mario, he is one of the lowest rated T in the game, and our line is still horrible. ESPN rated the o lines and had ours at number 32, the worst in the NFL.
Can we trade bey for oher now? The draft selections are good, but neither could last at LT. Is Gaither still available? We need a GOOD LT or we are fucked once again.

Not really.
I mean, the O-line played great when Grad was in..I think that the line we have will play solid. Nothin’ too special, but enough for us to get by.

a little strech
I wouldn’t say the OL played great. Serviceable with a quick footed QB. Grad did hurt both his knees. He can’t take that punishment this year. A vet LT is the only missing link to a true competitive team.

When you subtract
JaSippinSizurp, we’ll cut our sacks in half this year…let’s not forget the continuity aspect as well. This is the third year we’ve had ZBS so guys like Mario and Gallery will be more accustomed to the calls. Having Satele in his second year will also add to continuity for the “QB of the Line.” for sight adjustments and calling out blitzers and responsibilities/adjustments.
Veldheer would be fine starting now…at RT…

Who would you start at RG? Carlisle?
If you thought our right side was jacked up last year, start two rookies on one side. So I’m curious who you’d start at RG.

u did right by the RG spot
Campbell is a freak and will be our RG.. Cableguy knew this when he drafted him… weird how he is so tall though… way tall for a guard, especially at RG, where most right handed QB’s would be slappin him in the dome. I THINK VELDHEER will be seeing alot of time this year…. maybe not starting the first game, but by end of year, he will be in the rotation alot.
SAMSON – wild beast / warrior….. his people were savages and cannibals up till 140 years ago…. They (Pacific Islanders) are genetic mutants of freakish proportions… (i am NOT being racsict, i know this sounds this way but i am not slighting the islander race at all, my eleven year old is hapa-Hawaiian, and she is stronger than all boys two years older than her. my cousins were grown size at 15, and i know wayyyy to many Islanders to count…. GENETIC SPECIMENS they are) IS NOW 2 YEARS INTO OUR SCHEME, i am looking for him to be a mauler this year.

I think your lineup works better on Madden:
where shuffling your guys around to different positions doesn’t make much of a difference. I think it also points out the problem with our line and how it has been constructed as more of a “jack of all trades, master of none” set of guys. Sure there’s some versatility, but no true dominant presense who is irreplaceable.
You all occupy a world dominated by Kobe Bryant, consider yourself fortunate.
I don't play Madden, I prefer the company of beautiful women, thank you
And the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. This is the time for some unusual thinking. Get different things tried now so when someone goes down in week 2 we aren’t seeing a make-it-up-as-we-go line approach that we did last year.
