The greatest corner tandem in the NFL-on the Raiders??
So I'm watching the NFL Network, and they're doing their usual thing, saying how DHB had better be the most improved wideout (Raider Nation agrees with this but please mention how atrocious our ex QB was next time) this coming season. I'm half asleep, not really paying attention to who got signed and who got cut. Then I hear about D'Brickashaw Ferguson's contract and I think, good for him. And then they start talking about all the guys that the Jets need to sign, like Mangold and Revis and someone else.
Don't worry, I'm getting to it.
Apparently Darrelle Revis wants a new contract. He's one of the best corners in the league along with Awesome-One, and he's only making 500k next year. It's more than I'll ever make but peanuts compared to what Nnamdi's making. The word is that the Jets are afraid that Revis wants Nnamdi money and they won't even consider his deal when doing the contract for him. No one, they think, will match that type of deal.
Al Davis would.
Al would pay Revis big money to come be a Raider. Many people, myself included, have said Al wants that Hayes/Haynes corner combo. And here comes the golden opportunity to get two Pro-Bowl corners on the same team, wearing the Silver and Black. The Raiders would have an untouchable pass defense. But then the dilemma comes into play.
Who would we trade to get him?
This was discussed a few months ago, I'm aware of that. In light of the current situation with Revis being unhappy and our roster a little more settled with the draft a fading memory, I thought it best to bring it back up. And the conventional wisdom was that we were more likely to trade Nnamdi than the Jets were to trade Revis. Not many outside of here thought it was even possible. We will clearly have to give up some very key guys, but the potential exists for this to happen.
My version of the trade is below. Make your own if you'd like.
Jets get from the Raiders: Chris Johnson, Michael Huff, Richard Seymour, 2nd round pick in 2012
Raiders get: Darelle Revis, 2nd round pick in 2011

It will not happen
As much as I would like to see it I just don’t see it happening. The salary cap situation is just not going to allow it. Yes yes yes I know there is no cap in the year coming……..HOWEVER after this year THERE WILL BE A CAP. Having those 2 at the corners will definitely make our defense better BUT the team as whole does not have it to win this year and thus allowing for some dismantling of the team to make room for the cap afterward. It is way too much commitment on the Raiders and then leaving nothing in the coffers to contribute to building other parts of the team. I don’t even want it just for the fact it will deny other weaknesses getting addressed due to financial constraints.

I thought the cap was for rookies only (where was that when JaCrackhead was picked?)

Simply put, this trade is just a ripoff for the Jets. You don’t trade a top 15 player for a decent cornerback, an okay safety and an aging defensive lineman.

I'm Stanford Routt HaHa!!!! Oh crap I hope his suckage doesn't rub off on me for voting for that as a goof.
Even if Al wanted to make a move for a premier corner alongside Nmamdi he first of all wouldn’t have signed Routt to that F’d up tender in the first place and he would have made some sort of move by now. You never heard anything about Duanta Robinson or trading for someone who would realistically be available. Also I doubt he waited until the 5th round to get Walt McFadden assuming he was the diamond in the rough when there was so much good depth at the position available in the first 2 rounds. I agree we need to get someone soon if we are going to be running the same man to man dinosaur defense of the past 40+ years but Revis will not be a Raider. When all is said and done he unfortunately will report and will end up signing an extension which may not be higher but comparable to Nmamdi’s.

i would love it but get serious
come on now the jets most consistant/best player will not be traded away and we dont even have anything to trade no first rd pick, no pro bowlers(i say that bc were not trading away shane or aso) we have no one the jets need, they have money they will pay revis

I don't like Revis
he’s a ME guy he thinks he’s the greatest when he aint Nnamdi way better than him
why do people wana bring in new players with fat contracts
warren sapp, randy moss, deangelo hall all sucked on the raiders when they were supposed to be great players. i say fuck it, it will just be the same thing again
just keep the players we have now and let them become a team
DHALL all over
We would give up a lot to get one dude and then we have to pay him crazy money. I like Revis and think he is very good, but we all know AL Davis would run man to man every play if we had Revis. I think Nnam and Revis could play together and do well if we use the Jets Defense not man to man every down. I would be afraid of having Branch and Mitchell playing the middle because with Nnam and Revis that were every QB is going to throw the ball at those two Branch and Mitchell.
chris johnson is fine for now
let mcfadden develop, if he busts, then take a corner in the first round in a couple years
stop thinking we need an upgrade at every position, our players are fine
we cut alot of dead weight and have changed the atmosphere into a winning team, well thats what louis murphy said.

We need an upgrade at corner?
We need an upgrade all over the place that doesnt mean we deal the farm for one. Build it with sensible trades, signings and drafts. We could also pressure the QB with a blitz now and then. When we blitzed last year we kept the QB on his toes. Our CBs are not that bad. We have one all universe one and some very good ones that you cant compare to Nnamdi. IF there were some lay off from man to man and we threw some blitzes in here and there the CBs would be far better and the pressure would not be as great.

True
First we need an upgrade on play calling on Defense. Its come sense that if Nnam and CJ are both playing Man to Man QB’s are going to throw at CJ 75% of the time. If we played a Defense which wasn’t so predictable maybe we could have a high turnover rate. Rushing with four is fine when you have a Jared Allen any NT that can push the double team back and a UT like Kevin Williams. I don’t know what Kelly can do if he doesn’t get doubled but I Know we don’t have a Jared Allen. Scott shows signs I wonder if we should just allow him to play a wide end and rush up field because he is to small to read and push off LT and RT. Maybe like Trent Cole with the Eagles. We all know CJ isn’t a top Corner and if AL allows the defense to play zone and blitz when needed he will be Okay.
Not gonna happen.
Def not Seymour ‘cuz contract’s too fat, and let’s face it, the NYJ’s don’t wanna pay shit. Revis wants Nnamdi’s plus fitty cent. That ain’t gonna happen.
I think everyone above nailed it when it would ruin something good we have going. Keep the big egos and dissatisfied guys out of the locker room. We suddenly find ourselves in the enviable position of having almost no one not ready to go to camp and play hard.
Would love to upgrade the corner position, but want to see CJ get better with improved front seven play, and see lil Walt usurp him for his job with some mad ball skills when we have a dominant pass rush and improved run D.
The only position to discuss right now is O tackle.

I didn't say this would actually happen
We’re missing a key ingredient: that home-run guy opposite Nnamdi. This situation surfaced with Woodson, now it’s back. We have a guy to shut down half the field but not the gambler on the other side willing to take the chances to get the picks that create more possessions for our improved but still weak offense. And we need those possessions with Campbell learning the playbook and the receiving corps still young. We have a difficult task this season and we might not have the record to match the talent (I can’t endorse a record of anything above 8-8 realistically) but progress will be shown.

Asoughma and Revis Island on the same team?
That would be one of the greatest cornerback tandems ever!! But it’s not happening. No way the Jets are letting go of the face of their defense, NO WAY!!!

Is He That Big Headed to think he's Better than Nnamdi !!!!
This would be a great tandem!!! No doubt !!! Would it take a sign & trade to make it happen? More than likely. Can we afford both?? Long as we win the next 2 SB’s !!! Who’s Goes?? Huff, CJ, Kelly/Seymour, & next year’s Sec. Rd. Pick, For Revis & the Jets 2nd rd. pick !!! Hmmmmm, VERY INTERESTING !!!!What about Mitchell, CJ, Trever Scott, Myers & the 2nd Rd. pick!! Think about that there for a Second!!! I Imagine Ryan would get an instant Drool going, once he started thinking about what he could do scheming, on Defense !!! You got make someone in the Jets Organization blink, and I think Ryan would be the way in !!! He is a defensive Coach!!! He could be the laxative to the Jets Mgmt, Having the Big Brain Fart needed to make this Deal happen.
Now As Fas Revis vs. Nnamdi ….???? Revis was blessed to have a Decent team to play on coming into the league. Nnamdi has been the best Since he Learned From Charles Woodson, and poor teams since, or POOR COACHING since Chucky Left !!!
Revis is Good, Nnamdi Is better, so lets not get it twisted. Truth of the matter is, if this (pipe)DREAM doesn’t happen, the Raiders will be fielding a much Better team as it stands now!!! I still think there’s more to come, possibly when rosters start getting trimmed once camps starts. Were getting close, Camps open in a week, RaiderNation is Digging out all there gear that’s been in the closet & garage !!! Can’t WAIT !!!
a 2011 2nd round choice???
New England already owns our first rounder, so basically our first pick would be in the THIRD round. Not a fan of this idea
