A Little House Cleaning: Language
This is a quick reminder that racist or homophobic comments will not be tolerated on the site. In the guidelines, I have outlined what is and is not acceptable as far as language is concerned. I am now adding that using terms like "Gay" as a term for anything other than happy or someone's sexual orientation is not alright. Neither are any terms that degrade any race, religion or sexual preference.
I want to ensure that every Raider fan can feel free to read this site and be a part of the Community without being offended by such things.
Cheers,
- Saint

So…umm…what?
like calling game calling “gay came calling” is bad, but saying someone is gay is alright?
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
More PC bullcrap on SBN blogs.
Censorship always wins out….
Except when people use slurs on TV like “guido”… then its ok because it’s not a classically repressed group of people.
/sarcasm
SBN doesn’t grant freedom of speech as per the agreement when you join…
They own you, your content, and your comments as long as its on their servers.
They pay the bills and don’t gotta grant anyone civil rights lol.
Live it and love it is what they are saying!

Actually
I was just commenting on how he worded the sentence.
There is proper etiquette on on a blog that should be followed. I know I’m an ass, and I’m not changing that, but you’ll never see me come out and say “well he’s a dumb nigger” or “he’s just a fag” or anything like that. Do I curse, sure, so does everyone else. A blog is as much a community as is talking to people on the street.
Now, there have been some censorship comments Saint has made that I had issues with. Like telling someone to change their signature, which was small and mentioned their own blog, before posting their post on the front page. But, as for no derogatory remarks, I can live with that. To be honest, I never really noticed that much racial remarks from most of the Raiders fans on this site. But whatever.
And as for freedom of speech. If you think we truly have freedom of speech at all, you’re nuts. However, in an interesting turn of invents: cursing is protected by the 1st Amendment.

One lawyer once said it as I was asking her about a case in which a workplace bully won because her bullying turned out to be the result of mental illness.

Ironic that victims are becoming the bullies in this society; but not surprising since chronic victims are mentally ill
a workplace bully won because her bullying turned out to be the result of mental illness.

No: Calling someone gay is not alright as it is derogitory:
Calling someone like Billy Beane, who is out of the closet, gay is okay.

i get it.
but your wording was a little off for my feeble mind.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
I think you mean Billy Bean, not Beane
the A’s General Manager.
Billy Bean, the former Major Baseball player is the Bean that is come out of the closet gay:
Source: Gay Celebrity Profile: Billy Bean
Billy Bean was a star major league baseball player until the internal conflict of being gay in a homophobic sports world forced him to rededicate his life to gay advocacy. He’s now a public speaker and author.

And explain what fanposts and fanshots are for
instead of non relevant articles being splattered all over the fanposts page.
Win, Lose, or Tie, Raiders til I die!
I think there also have to be guidelines for people overreacting as a result of misinterpretation
That guy blasted Sons and piled on complaints – just because Sons offered an explanation as to how the stereotype might have come about?!
If any homosexual(s) were offended when I offered a suggestion as to why "gay" might be used in place of "pansy" or "lightweight"
then I do not understand how that should fall under the prohibition against “homophobic comments”. If a homosexual doesn’t want to admit that a stereotype exists, that’s one thing, but to attack someone for pointing out that it does exist is incomprehensible.
S-O-B: ITS HOW I ROLL, DEAL WITH IT.
On this, Sons-of Blanda
to say you just "offered a suggestion as to why “gay” might be used in place of “pansy” or “lightweight” " is a lie. You outright said that is what “gay” stands for and means. And to know that you are a moderator on this site is shameful.
This whole thing has nothing to do with being PC or anything of the sort. It is all about being respectful of others. If you can’t even see or understand that, then that is sad. This is the whole reason I and many other fans I know do not ever post on this site.
Stop blaming others for pointing out disrespectful and quite outdated behavior.

Mindless rhetorical blather from a baseball addict who has never posted here or on any SB Nation football site before yesterday
What’s really shameful is your calling me a liar without any support from the record. The fact is you are not telling the truth and you are the one being disrespectful.

No, it’s because you have no interest in the Raiders, or more likely, football generally. You are some type of knee-jerk advocate whose needs to get a life.

This is ridiculous.
Instead of focusing on the point, you attack the guy instead? ChickenStanley is right.
Even if you intended to only “offer a suggestion”, it certainly didn’t come off that way, and you’ve made it far worse by childishly attacking everyone and digging your heels into the ground. Why not be the better man, realize that it may have come off worse than you intended, and apologize?
lol
You must be new here. The day SOB apologizes to somebody getting in his face will be the surest sign the apocalypse is upon us.
Yeah
Nobody should be holding their breath for an apology or admission of being wrong when it comes to subjective interpretation…..especially from any one who posts on this site.

Can those crocodile tears get any bigger?
Go to a Civil Rights forum if you wanna talk about your “Coming out” story.
I thought this was a football blog.
I (a Guido according to my TV) am here to discuss football.
Go lecture some people who give a bleeding heart with your sensitive bullshit.
100 years ago everyone had to fight for the rights they had around the world… now people like you born with them take it all for granted and use them for selfish causes like berating others about their syntax.
The vanity and self importance of your post disgusts this Guido.

White trash mick that is! So much for talking about football.
Are you seriously saying that homosexuals have the same rights and take them for granted?
Is this like, you got the right to vote, now shut up and make me a sammich?
BTW, Chickie is straight and all man.
I’m a hetero gal.
You don’t need to have an ‘agenda’ to give a shit about people different from you.
Go Raiders!
...being a role model I probably wouldn't recommend eating dirt. But at the same time, I'm not trying to be a role model. I'm just trying to eat some dirt.
Go raiders
and you might be illiterate.

Wow
I don’t see anything wrong with Saint’s post. I think he’s just reminding people not to resort to those stupid back and forth “conversations” that one typically finds on… I don’t know… places like youtube. Ever read the comments section there? When there is no censorship, or no one to moderate the language, all hell breaks loose (due to some “misinterpretation”)…
Keep up the good work, Saint.
(great response, ChickenStanley)

I disagree with your assertion that unless there is a censorship all hell breaks loose
In fact, censorship just makes people more creative. Let people control each other, don’t resort to 1984-esque measures. Trust me, I have a very intimate experience with censorship and what it does to people.
I also disagree with your endorsement of ChickenStanley’s comment. She either didn’t read the whole thread, or she read it hastily. She zeroed on Sons because Wachchampions’s eruption was to Sons. She is so absolutely sure she knows what Sons is thinking that she calls him a liar. And then she talks about respect and shame.
by Spirals galore on Sep 19, 2010 5:24 AM PDT up reply actions
I respectfully disagree
1984? Are you serious?
I understand where you’re coming from by making a reference to that classic, and I understand your reasoning, but you’re thinking a bit too hard here… waaay too hard, I’m afraid.
Your argument that it leads people to being more creative (and I’m assuming you mean creative in the way they address people online) is a lot better than being straightforward about it, right? Besides, being “creative”, as you put it, takes a lot of work, and it’s the kind of creativity that’s usually carried out by more intelligent fans such as yourself. My point? If being creative is a requirement to insulting someone, then it probably won’t happen considering a majority of people who insult others are usually stupid and too lazy to take the time out in being creative. Pardon me if I’m thinking too hard here, but I’m only returning the favor by jumping ahead the way you did in your response. Also, if I thought you were kidding by referencing 1984, I probably wouldn’t have commented. However, you seem dead serious.
Listen, I appreciate your response as you’re very well-informed. But that being said, this is a sports site where fans come to and talk about football. FOOTBALL.
This isn’t a site dedicated to talking about the federal goverment, or those elitist bastards.
Take it easy. And again, I’m sure the purpose of Saint’s post was only to prevent any of those back-and-forth childish gibberish that, like I said, you often see on sites like youtube. I’m 100% positive Saint’s purpose wasn’t to control bloggers in a 1984-esque manner.\
Good day to you, my friend. Go RAIDERS!

What about Queer?
Queer
From Wikipedia, 1]Queer has traditionally meant odd or unusual
"May the wind be at our back, here comes the Silver and Black "
I think you can use your better judgement on that.
