Appreciate this j-man. Maybe it's time to lay aside what might have been off the waiver wire and start focusing
From what I’ve seen in preseason, this game will come down to our LineBackers – will they contain CJ early before the Safeties come into play. A huge test for for all 3 LBs (Rolando, Kamerion and Quentin) but especially for McClain because the middle is the target – preseason exposed that.
What do you think about possibly assigning Asomugha to Chris Johnson and play someone else at LCB? Asom1 vs. CJ! … just track him everywhere – be dedicated just to him?

Make that RCB - Routt, Ware or McFadden. Don't believe assigning Ro to CJ would work.

Now that is a bold idea!
Where would Nnam line up? I’d rather have Branch on him and use Ro on the TE’s.
Thought is cheap.

What if they did? What if we told them in advance that that's what we planned to do - put Asom1 on CJ?
I believe Asom1 is as good against the rush as he is against the pass. He’s easily the best tackler on the team.

CJ had only 3 poor games season: Pittsburgh, Indinapolis and Miami
What do those 3 teams have in common? What did they do that the other teams didn’t?

White Quarterbacks.
That settles it: We’re starting Bruce this Sunday.

Reasoning questionable (Pitts and Indi also have redneck fans) but maybe you reached the right conclusion

i.e. the coincidence that they have redneck fans, or that the temperature was 62 degrees in both games, etc. Enough

U can take that BS type of thinking, and shove it BACK UP YOUR AZZ's !!
SOB !!! U lost me with that comment, and you just lost a little respect in the process !!! I never like the Real Robert Horry, So enough said !!!
The cheerleaders wore blue ribbons that day - same thing. False causation. As for the conclusion, I'll stand behind it-
Grad is overall a better QB for this team than Campbell.

i disagree
grad is a career backup campbell can win if he is proted by his o-line

ok - slow down and think clearly
SOB says :
CJ had only 3 poor games season: Pittsburgh, Indinapolis and Miami What do those 3 teams have in common? What did they do that the other teams didn’t?
Hory responds, sarcastically:
White Quarterbacks. That settles it: We’re starting Bruce this Sunday.
To which SOB responds in kind. Can’t you read humor??
by Spirals galore on Sep 7, 2010 9:03 PM PDT up reply actions
It wasn't humor. I said the reasoning was flawed but (somehow) he arrived at the correct conclusion, viz, Grad should start
Christ, does anyone read English on this post?

If we keep CJ averagin at least 2-3 yrds carry on the beginning..
And i mean seriously..committing to stopping CJ..forcing Young to mfke plays..pressure..more pressure!! Letting Young know he can get the big play only if u got enough heart to go for it…but other than that i cant stress how important it is to contain the TE and the RB.
Marshall has to think - for a change - outside the box... business as usuall won't work

Okay, we'll continue tomorrow. This is our assignment for the week - figure out how to minimize / neutralize CJ.
S-O-B: ITS HOW I ROLL, DEAL WITH IT.
I'm liking our chances of containing CJ
We don’t really know what our defense is capable of against the run. The middle of our line didn’t see much action during the preseason besides Kelly. I think Seymour, Kelly, and Henderson are going to be the big keys. If they can win their individual battles against the middle of the Tennessee o-line, then our ends will have a much easier time against their men, which would clog up the running lanes and enable McClain and company to swoop in and attack. My guess with the Steelers success is that Hampton probably did a really nice job in the middle, and it spread to the rest of the front 7.
If CJ gets past our front 4, I can pretty much say "bye bye!"
We need to have mitchell up there nice and close, for support. We need a safety who can move around an open area, and make a sure-fire tackle. Mitchell can do that(or should be able to). Like a safety/LB hybrid role.
But what I want most of all this game, is good red zone defense. That’s all I ask for. Make them kick field goals IF they get in field goal range. That’s all I ask. If we do this, we have a good chance to win.
I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP
I'm also a Raider Fan dammit!!! RAIDER NATION!!!!
I say
We maximize our speed on defense and go with a 4-2-5 set up. Subbing Mitch for Groves at WLB, and maybe giving Howard the nod over Wimbley at strong side. Use Mitch to spy CJ and Howard to spy to Young. If we get the push I expect from our front four, this should limit CJ’s ability to get to the edge, and limit VY’s ability to freelance, as well.
I don’t just want to stop CJ, I want to PUNISH him, and the missle the perfect person to do it…
Either way, I don’t play Cover 1 and expect Huff to make plays against this team. We need Cover 2 looks to keep our DBs eyes in the backfield, and we need BOTH safeties flying to the flat, not in the box manning up the TE like we were when Forte went to the house…
we never retreat we always ATTACK!!!
by transparent58 on Sep 9, 2010 10:13 AM PDT up reply actions
The 46 defense sounds like it mght work, but if he get’s to the outside, it’ll just make it harder to catch him. I like the idea of having Branch on him at all times, but that leaves Rolando covering a TE. And well, he just can’t do that at this stage.
True knowledge consists in knowing that you know nothing
Branch dedicated to CJ - every play - Ro or Howard on Scarfe (TE). Matt, Trevor and LaMarr bring relentless pressure on VY
Jason leads us down and scores! then, when he goes flat, Grad comes in. … und viktori vil b ows

Success is not measuredby what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds...

right now
im praying we put in mitchell one play and he lights him up early and give him a concussion.
fingers are crossed….
to stop CJ
U must stay at home make him run inside take the toss away make young beat u and runs slant to beat their 46

MLB stayed home vs Dallas and started freelancing vs Chicago and even more freelancing before snaps vs SF with bad results
So I agree with you. More dropped balls on slants and across middle than anything, but I think Nick Miller is the man for that assignment.
