Raiders Will Not Bring Back DC John Marshall
Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that the Oakland Raiders will not be bringing back John Marshall as defensive coordinator in 2011.
Discuss potential successors who share Mr. Davis' schematic philosophies on defense who may be brought in to run the Raiders' defense in 2011. Who fits the bill for the Raiders defense?

I am so sick of Al...

If Al decided that Marshall would stay he would be accused of medling and forcing his guy on the new coach……
I think letting the new coach pick his own staff is by far the right thing to do

WTF???
If Al decided that Marshall would stay he would be accused of medling and forcing his guy on the new coach……how do u know this was Al’s call? Maybe this was Coach Jacksons call.
I think letting the new coach pick his own staff is by far the right thing to do.

So nice you said it thrice.

It's true. most of the sacks came via the line
Raiders are historically good at getting sacks though.

Don't forget Wimbley man. Some of those blitzes were successful. (The run D was not though)
But we better blitz next year either the same or more.
Wimbley, not part of D-line.
The RaiderLaker
Wimbley Played Nickel DE
Wimbley played the “Elephant” position, where he’d play SLB in base packages and move to DE in nickel packages. He got almost all of his sacks from his DE position.

I say the early favorite is Winston Moss.
He is the current Packers LB coach. The Packers run a 3-4, but Moss has coached in a 4-3. Al brought in Moss for an interview for the Head Coaching spot before he lifted Cable’s interim tag.
I’d be all for it. Moss has never called D plays before, but that’s better than calling them and sucking at it and it’s not like Al is going to go out and bring in a big name defensive coordinator.
Drunk by noon, but that's okay--I'll be president someday.
Oh yeah... damn that Mathews. Get Winston Moss!!! Fuckers are still in the playoffs though.
If he is hired though… it tells me Hue Jax had no say, because we know Al was looking at him last year.
Thought Hue was looking for his staff…
The RaiderLaker
Hue and Al are of one mind. Hue stands while Cable and Marshall have fallen. ... Life is good.

Best news since we bombed Kabul
As for replacements [Noon] I don’t see GB’s Assistant Coach taking a DC position, here or elsewhere but hope I’m wrong because he would be an upgrade over John Marshall. WM would help our dysfunctional LB corps as he helped the Saints and GB’s and as a former NFL standout MLB would develop Death Ro’s latent potential. What’s more, Winston Moss was a Raider (1993) leading us in tackles and an integral part of our advance to the Divisional Playoffs.
Rejoice Nation! Al Davis is on fire and hasn’t made a single poor decision in the past 380 days!

I think he'd jump ship for a chance to call his own plays.
He obviously wants to be a HC and very few LB coaches move to head coaches. Unless the team is Pitt and they seem pretty set at HC.

kinda upset at this, kinda not. The Raiders defense was last year was its D-Line and nothing else. I liked Marshall personally. After all, what can you do when the defense is in Al’s hands?
Candidates I could see as likely are Winston Moss…….and well no one else short of that. Moss i think is actually very likely. He’s probably the best linebacker coach in the NFL, and could definitely run a 4-3 defense. I’d love to see what he could do for our backers.
Moss could definitely get a big pay raise as a DC, and he’s definitely capable of it.
The Sunkist Kaiser, most epic thing since the Grizzly BLAAAAAAAIR! Relax, play, and drink Sunkist! Your Kaiser commands it.
There will be other candidates, including...Chuck Pagano
who is currently the Ravens secondary coach, worked with Hue when Hue was there and was the Raiders secondary coach during the 2005 and ’06 seasons.
There are also some good candidates on the remaining playoff teams, so we may not have a new DC until after the Super Bowl.
Your team is your child...You love it no matter what.

Lardarious or whatever his name is should be drummed out of the league
For getting beat deep (badly at that) when he was already giving up about a 20 yard cushion
Fuck the ravens for subjecting us to another week of thoughtful big ben interviews and hines wards fucking smile
If there is any justice at all in this world ryan clark should come down with traumatic dementia before next week and james harrison should contract superaids. Damn I hate that fucking team.

I'm not advocting for Pagano
just saying that there will be several other candidates, including Pagano, who by the way, coached the #1 pass defense in the NFL during the Raiders 2006 season which also happened to be Nnamdi’s breakout year.

I understand but
Marshall never made any adjustments at halftime. when we are up he played soft and gave up everything under. True we don’t know if it was Marshall calling the plays or AL but we will know with new DC. If he comes here and run single high the who game we know its AL.
Winston Moss
From what I remember about Winston Moss in previous interview news he wasn’t an “X’s and O’s” kind of guy, much like Mike Singletary isn’t an “X’s and O’s” kind of guy. Inspirational leaders work as positional coaches and head coaches, but not as coordinators. I’d be weary of Moss for this reason.

And I have no idea what his philosophies are (but I bet they are aggressive)
My new defensive coach mancrush is on Kevin Greene.

Hey at least it won't be Rob Ryan
He’s being hired by the Cowboys for their DC opening.
John Marshall sucked and should have been fired for the Titans game alone.

Yes.
The best move the Raiders made was one they didn’t. Rob Ryan going to the Cowboys is great news. They will continue to be Allas (no D). This and the hiring of Al Saunders as OC is brilliant. Saunders has a history utilizing both PBS and ZBS as well as run-heavy and pass-heavy offenses.

What are we going to do next year
When we run essentially the same D we ran this year only with less blitzing?

Trick question. Marshall was terminated for the right reasons not the one you suggest. If you disagree, bring some proof.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Bill Williamson have heard grumblings that, should Hue Jackson be named the Raiders’ head coach, Al Saunders may be brought it to be the new offensive coordinator.
We’ve heard Saunders’ name before, and the move would make perfect sense. As an Air Coryell disciple Saunders would run the type of offense Mr. Davis would like. Futhermore, Saunders is familiar with both Jason Campbell from time spent in Washington D.C., and with Hue Jackson from time spent in Baltimore.

Agreed
I’m sure Hue will still call the plays, he just needs assistance building the offensive gameplan on a week to week basis. Gruden called plays, but even he had Callahan and Trestman helping with the gameplan.

biggest joke of the day
Discuss potential successors who share Mr. Davis’ schematic philosophies on defense who may be brought in to run the Raiders’ defense in 2011. Who fits the bill for the Raiders defense?
there is nothing to discuss, its Al’s man or his scheme or nothing. That is why NOBODY fits the bill never will too.
I can only wish we ran similar schemes to the current top teams (yes the talent might not be at the same level but it at least gives us a better chance than 100% man with little to no blitzing.) It was a breath of fresh air to see the DL get as much pressure as they did and to lead the league for most of the season. Too bad the rest of the defense couldnt keep pace.
