Huge sigh of relief

It would have been devastating if we let go of Cable and didn’t promote Hue. Thankfully thats taken care of, and I’m loving the hiring of Al Saunders as offensive coordinator for a few reason
a) Has worked with Campbell before
b) Has worked along Hue Jackson before
c) Was an assistant under Dick Vermeil with the “Greatest Show on Turf” as well as those high scoring chiefs of the early-mid 2000’s with trent green and co.

Hue will still be the same playcaller with a run and play-action heavy offense but i’m sure he will integrate some of Saunders’ complex passing plays which would be a great addition to our playbook.

the only question is who will be defensive coordinator. im a fan of Jim Mora Jr as he is an aggressive coordinator

Wow

Got to say as a Chiefs fan I’m getting very worried about what’s going on in Raider land. It looks like AL has the start to a very good coaching staff.

Some cool info on Chuck Pagano from a Jerry's blog comment poster.

—"In 2001, Pagano entered the NFL as secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns. In 2003, he helped the Browns tie a franchise record for the fewest passing touchdowns allowed with 13. In 2001, the secondary accounted for 28 of the Browns’ NFL-high 33 interceptions, and, in the same season, rookie cornerback Anthony Henry led the league with ten interceptions"—

—"After leaving Cleveland in 2004, Pagano spent two seasons as defensive backs coach of the Oakland Raiders. In 2006, the Raiders’ pass defensive allowed just 151 yards per game, and total defense just 285. This ranked them first and third in the league, respectively"—

Didn’t know he was once a Raider.

Cool, wish Hue best of luck

And as many posters have said, let’s see who we get for DC. Already, Hue seems to be a more nimble politician (and smarter guy) than Cable—which is good when dealing with Al.

by worldblee on Jan 17, 2011 6:23 PM PST reply actions

Let's get a DC who can

stop the run, keep the sacks and stuffs, and strip the ball from the opponents’ hands, and from the air.

Let’s take our defense from #11 to #1.

As far as Hue…pheww!

Now let’s get some superbowl rings!

by xville on Jan 17, 2011 6:28 PM PST reply actions

Finally a pick that makes sense!

OK Cable guy was NOT the reason the Raiders were so much better this past year, THIS guy was. Good hire. I like his attitude and his results.

So have the hired his replacement at OC? I have seen Saunders name a few times in here, but heard nothing official.

As far as DC, the Raiders need someone who isn’t afraid to bring the pressure and switch it up some.

Congrats Hue, I am happy for you, for figure out how to keep Seymour, Bush, Miller and Nnamdi.

by TD Rader on Jan 17, 2011 6:28 PM PST reply actions

Yes, let's jab Cable one more time.

Can we simply just congratulate Hue and wish him the best of luck and pledge our support since he will need them both?

by naq92 on Jan 17, 2011 7:36 PM PST up reply actions

Now we see what happens.

Here’s what I want to see: so much confidence that Hue gets to do what HE wants.

I’m confident our Offense will improve.

1) What’s the new O-Line Scheme?
2) How improved will the WRs be?
3) How much of the offense will be Hue’s? (VERY IMPORTANT)

Now..pertaining Defense…..

1) Are we assigning gaps?
2) We’re probably still playing High safety……IF Nnamdi stays.
3) How improved will our LBs be??

Ocho Cinco?

Yeah , Right. Credible. Reliable. let’s take it a step further. Trustworthy , Loyal , helpful , friendly , courteous , kind , obedient , cheerful , thrifty , brave , clean and reverent. A veritable Boy Scout. I have to admit he’s right though, after seeing how Hue’s influence enspired D.H.B. to higher levels. And how about Louis Murphy eclipsing last years stellar performance. Yeah , that Hue knows how to inpire those WR’s all right. I’m glad Al made the right choice – finally! Off we go ,into the wild blue yonder!!
TD Raider , Hue was responsible for the turn around? Hue got rid of Russell? Hue inspired Jacoby Ford to return TDs? Or to step up as a WR? Hue did all this ? Come on guys wake the fuck up and put the pipe down. Cable wasn’t the best Coach but HE (besides Al) was in charge. YES ,the offense was more creative this season , ,and that was Hue’s doing but other variables (D Mac breaking out -Ford and the “D” stepping up) figured into our turnaround too). All I ask is that we look at this objectively and when you do it’s not what it seems when you weigh the facts Bro’s.

by Sons-of-Blanda on Jan 17, 2011 6:50 PM PST up reply actions

so let me get this straight

you believe that Cable was responsible for these changes? The same guy that couldn’t muster more than 5 wins in all of his previous seasons? Nothing changed on that team until Hue came in an challenged a bunch of lazy guys to man up and play with heart. Yea, I believe he was responsible. In training camp he called players out on BOTH sides of the ball. He challenged the D to stop his runs, when they knew it was coming.

Sorry man, I don’t think that I have any pipes to put down, I am looking at the facts. Fact is Cables O sucked. DMC did nothing and the O was ridiculous with Cable calling the shots. The D improved in part to the O improving.

Like him or not, he has more to show than I have seen on that team since Chucky. I actually have some faith that there is a chance, and I never did with Cable (sorry for kicking the dead dog Sons of Blanda).

You’re preaching to my choir but as Sons said, I’m going forward with Hue and will support the heck out of the guy. Cable is gone and there isn’t much we can do to change anyone’s mind about him. That said, we’ll see how the draft goes 1st. If it makes sense, we’re good. If not, we might be in for a long season and most of these Cable was the problem folks can start saying the Hue is the problem. I hope it all works out.

Don't shoot, I'm a man.

TD Raider, too bad about the pipe first of all. 2nd of all NO, Cable wasn’t responsible for all the changes, but he had more input than Hue ,count on it. 3rd, I don’t DISLIKE HUE JACKSON , he’ a decent offensive coordinator, but to hear Raider Nation tout him as being the sole reason for our nice season is bullshit Bro. Likewise the notion that because he’s a decent coordinator he’s going to be able to deal with Al’s bullshit and be a good head Coach. GRUDEN couldn’t deal with it and Hue can? THINK!

I think our coaching staff will be better this year

The two guys that should stay are staying (Jackson and Waufle). Now we have a very knowledgeable OC in Saunders, who has experience with Campbell, and now we need to either get WM or Pagano. I know Moss is a tough guy who has helped put together one of the best LB groups in the NFL, and when Pagano was the DB coach, our secondary was flying all over the place and making plays. Waufle would also be a good option at DC. Hopefully we can get a good WR coach to help our young guys. It would be a dream if Tim Brown came and took that spot. I’m sure Jackson has some good one’s in mind.

Waiting for Lechler to chime in

The official hiring of Hue will be the opportunity and defining moment for Lechler after his season ending Cable rant. He will either use the opportunity to effuse enthusiasm about Hue, while wryly apologizing for his outburst by claiming that he was just emotional following the end of a very improved season for the team. Or, he will be silent, which will probably spell doom for the punter.

Now I can get excited.........

we got our HC now its time to get the coaching staff in place. There is going to be 212 free agents this off-season so the Raiders should be able to beef up the O-line shore up the secondary and maybe claim a prize or two (I personally want to see Vincent Jackson signed hes a beast) also the signing of Hugh keeps some continuity on our team and might make some of the key free-agent re-sign. GO RAIDERS!!!
