"Is Kevin Kolb worth a look?"

Michael Vick will be franchised tagged this upcoming season (if there is a season). This decision puts Kevin Kolb on the trading block. With that information already announced from the Eagles organization, it makes a lot of teams in need of improvement at quarterback have to wonder if Kolb might be the answer for them. The question that I have is: Are we one of those teams? By the end of the year Jason Campbell had won me over as our unquestioned leader for the 2010 season. I am interested to see what kind of improvement we will see from Jason in his 2nd year in the same system, which will be his first 2 year stint in the same offense since coming to the NFL. It is one of the most unfair things I have ever seen for an individual player having the odds stacked against him. Yet Campbell has persevered through all of this and is still an NFL quarterback. I have no question what so ever that Campbell would be a successful starter and leader for us, but would Kevin Kolb be better?

Kevin has had some incredible success in certain games, looking like a perennial pro bowler. In other games though he looked like an inexperienced quarterback that is going to make mistakes. That is something that the Raiders of 2011 will not be able to afford. We can not have our quarterback make mistakes that he should know better than to make. Then there is also the concussion that Kolb had incurred during the first game of the season against the Green Bay Packers. I will say that Clay Matthews hit him hard on the play, but with the concern that the NFL now has for concussion related injuries, even one concussion immediately puts up a red flag. Is this going to be a one time only thing, or is this a problem that he is going to have to deal with for his career?

The thing that does make me question if we should make a move for him though, is how good he has shown himself to be on multiple occasions. I have to admit I was far more impressed with Kolb when he had 3 straight games of throwing for over 300 yards in 2009 while taking snaps for an injured Donovan Mcnabb than I was at any point during this season with Jason Campbell. I do not consider Donovan Mcnabb as an option to be our quarterback, not because I think he doesn't have enough left in the tank (I think he does have another pro bowl year in him) but because when the Raiders were the rumored landing place for him he basically said Screw You Oakland. By saying he would rather retire than play for us, he eliminated any interest I had in ever acquiring him. So I ask you Raider Nation: Is Kevin Kolb worth trading for? We do have to consider the option because of the success that he has shown, but would he be the answer for us? Personally, I want to draft a QB and see what Hue can make him into, while finally giving Jason Campbell the opportunity to start 2 years in a row in the same system. Let me know how all Y'all feel!
