Raiders Add Bob Wylie as O-Line Coach
He coached in the CFL, has a long list of coaching jobs, holds annual NFL O-Line seminars, and coached the Broncos when they transitioned from zone blocking to power blocking last year. Doesn't look so good for Carlisle

move forward in "assembling"! Clear indication of departing linemen ... I wonder whose leaving

Assembling does is not precluded by disassembling.....
there will be more pieces joining this O-line puzzle and they will need to be fit in.

if anybody won’t be back it’ll be Carlisle, I think Wylie can work with Gallery as can Wisniewski. If not, oh well. Loper looks like he can do the power blocking needed and plays pretty good. I’d rather we keep gallery though.
As for bringing in new talent, look for possibly Mankins. I think Wylie and Wisniewski would love to have someone as physical as him at RG. Maybe we just move Langston Walker to RG, Wisniewski and Wylie (the double-dubs?) would love having a mauler with a 365 pound body to lead the way on the run. I prefer this option actually because Walker did very well as a guard in 09. Pick up a right tackle, or maybe use Bruce Campbell at RT and I think we’re set.
Personally, I think Gallery is physical enough, and has enough a mean streak that he will be back.

Yes, Loper and Walker are big maulers and will serve the running game well (especially if Walker delievers a baby as Kelly did)
Barnes may well survive and Mario too (he played very well at times but was erratic) once the coaches see what they can do with him. Campbell is an enigma; his improvement might be sufficient proof for Al that Saunders and Wylie are major upgrades…. but he, like I, must know this already.

Barnes will stay on for sure. The way we used him to run block from the second TE spot (showed good hands to lol), was a huge part of our success in the running game. You had 3 O-Lineman on one side, but you didn’t leave the other side weak like you would if doing an unbalanced line set. You still had two lineman there and Miller is a very underrated run blocker (gets more cred for his pass blocking). And of course Satele assisted whichever side we ran to.
If we can get an actual run blocking FB (Reece wasn’t bad just not his cup of tea), then i think this will be the best set up rushing offense in the NFL. Maybe Tonga steps up next year, or perhaps we go with another UDFA. Either way, I’d like said blocking fullback to be able to run and catch to some extent. Just like Reece can block to some extent. That way you add a new wrinkle of confusion.

I kind of like Reece's role in the backfield.
Yeah, he’s not much of a blocker, but DMac has gained a hell of a lot of yards with Reece in the backfield, and Reece made some Very big plays. I see Al keeping him, because I think he was also mentioned in the press conference. For example, the hurdle against the Chargers, the long TD run against the Broncos, etc.

Al is rightfully happy with Marcel at FB, so he'll remain. It would be a trade-off opting for a lead-blocking FB and
Reece did improve his rush support over the season. However, if we are going to stretch the field (which I highly suspect…Al has his vision and Hue seems to share it) then backfield blocking will be critical and whoever’s back there must not fail to pick up blitzing LBs and/or Safeties.

Mr. Reece will play for the Raiders
His hands out of the backfield remind Al & us of Mr. Hewertt Dixon, Mr. Hawkins, Mr. Ritchie and a few others.
I hope Mr. Tonga makes the active roster this year as a fullback, especially in goal-line and 3rd and 1’s.
Plus I think Marcel provides an alternate at TE, should we lose Zach.
I know he will play and I love Reece, i think he’s a good FB. Easily the best runner-receiver in the NFL. But I think you’ll see a more traditional lead blocker added. This fullback won’t start mind you, but just rotate in like on the goal line or short yardage. Hue and Saunders are bringing back power blocking with Wylie and Wisniewski, so I think they’d love to get a big 250 or 260 pound fullback to come in and light up a linebacker on 1st and goal so McFadden can burst through for the TD

Seems so; and Hue has stressed is role as "putting players in situations that will enable them to play their best"
[paraphrased] and he’s said that several times … usually in proximity to referencing Jason. So a blocking back is a logical conclusion and one used in passing situations (as well as leading DMC through).

I really don't think we ever stopped looking for that guy
Just not your prototypical guys like that available, like Ovie Mughelli of Atlanta, or your classic T. Richardsons or Lorenzo Neals in their days. Not too many modern era guys like that. We saw experimental guys that never really fit the mauler bill. Kaiz is right in that it will be a big focus in looking. We will always expect those guys to be able to catch when necessary too.

I suppose TAW will hear of this and we'll be treated to a 1st rate mock of FBs with strong legs and soft hands

an excerpt from Jerry McDonald's article on Wylie
Wylie runs an annual offensive clinic which features blocking seminars and instruction from many NFL coaches, which last year included the Saints’ Aaron Kromer, the Colts’ Howard Mudd and the Jets’ Bill Callahan.

This guy shall get major points.
Very good OLs(except the colts OL last year was hectic).

Except I attest that more to injury than lack of ability.

even when healthy their OT position still needed to get upgraded.
and their OL stinks at run blocking….. lolololol.

They didn't look that bad gaining 192 yards against us did they?

That was really the only good running game they had....
I was extremely surprised.

because McDaniels wanted pass plays, pass plays, and more pass plays. he didn’t care about the running game. Also, their running backs were easily the worst in the league. No contest in that department. Even Moreno was painfully average.
If they had better backs and a scheme that would actually practice them in run blocking or force them to be better run blockers (or thus be released), i think they would have had a good O-Line last year. Wylie could have done it, but McDaniels basically said no.

We tore throught the Broncos OL
like it was tissue paper.
We need to improve pass and run protection, not go backwards.
There were a ton of injuries on, what was going into the year, a dominant O-Line. Also it’s hard for an O-Line to look good when the other team knows every single play is a pass, and that if a run actually did get called, their backs would be unable to really get anything.

This is a good point.
but we need a center……. wisnieski’s kid? XD

That's What's Worrisome...They Couldn't Block For The Run...
I think Hue knows what he is doing and the man he picked has a ton of experience….That said I’m worried about his inability to get that “OL” to block in the run game which is a huge part of our “O”….We can’t afford to let that diminish again like it did in “09”…“Wiz” as his assistant does bring hope and an element of toughness that may have been missing…
“Stupid Mario”….Why should he be brought back…That guy scares me worse than “JC” who has his sleep walking lapses…

I hope we draft
Wisniewski and re-sign Mr. Satele.
I hope we draft Gilbert and re-sign: Barnes and Loper.
I hope we sign Mankins.
Line could look like this:
Vehldeer Wisniewski Satele Mankins Campbell
with Barnes Loper and Gilbert as back ups
or
Campbell Wisniewski Vehldeer Mankins Gilbert
or
Vehldeer Hudson Wisniewski Campbell Gilbert
however you draw it up the Raiders’ O-line will be one of the best for years to come
Yes Gallery & Mario
can go along with Carslie to another team, we might even get a compensatory pick out of Gallery.
Eagles' DC hunt reportedly includes Vikes' Woods; Moss, too?
the Eagles plan to interview at least one coach from either the Green Bay Packers or Pittsburgh Steelers after Sunday’s Super Bowl.
And that could be Packers assistant head coach/linebackers coach Winston Moss.
“It would be a great opportunity and absolutely I would be interested in having that opportunity to sit down with (Eagles coach) Andy Reid and his staff,” Moss told WPEN-FM in Philadelphia. “I have the utmost respect for what they’re doing, for the owner (Jeffrey) Lurie, those guys are well respected throughout the league. They do a tremendous job.”
Hope we get him instead….
Eagles promoted a coach to be their Defensive Coordinator.
That leaves us and us alone in persuit of either "GB"s “DB” coach Darren Perry or their “LB”/Assistant “HC” Winston Moss…
That's a relief ... maybe Moss and Perry can come to Alameda and compete against each other.
Hue and Al will sift them down, selecting the favored former Raider to be our Iron Nuts DC

Great Read.
Al’s destructiveness. Old SI archive article I just read. Was 4 at that time. Ammo baby.
The RaiderLaker
But seeing as how now he is older and needs help to walk... I don't see him walking in and out of the film room and intimidating anyone.
Due to his age, we may come back to win one more.
The RaiderLaker
You're referring to 1988 through 1997 (between Coadhes Flores and Gruden) Rat, White, Shell, Bugle all had a tough time
establishing order and authority (perhaps Art least of them). But there’s nothing directly stated in that article about Al’s destructiveness – just opinions about the organization from former disgruntled players.
