Thank You Al Davis....
8-8 does not make a winning season, finally we've re-commited ourselves to a "Commitment of Excellence"...
If Tom Cable proved anything in 3 years it's that he is NOT worthy of being a NFL Head Coach. I have never seen a team play more inconsistent than his. He was a terrible evaluator of talent and stuck with guys wayyy too long see-Kwame Harris, Cornell Green, Cooper Carlisle, Mario Henderson and DHB as proof. His Oline regressed as soon as he became HC despite the fact Al kept adding talent to it. He never held players accountable-see our record breaking year of penalties. He was a terrible game manager that wasted timeouts and challenges on a regular basis. Despite what most people think this team won despite him not becuase of him.
In the beginning of the season I believed 8-8 was the over/under for keeping him; after I saw the impact Hue had on our offense as well as the impact McClain, Houston and Wimbley had on our defense my expectations went up. Cable had plenty of chances to right the ship and get us back in contention the problem is he could never win a game when he really needed it. It's no coincidence he NEVER won a season opener or a game after a bye week. Cable had to be the most desperate Coach I've ever witnessed, starting Veldheer at Center in our season opener and benching Campbell after winning three straight is a perfect example of this. Common sense was definitely lacking with Cable and the fact he insisted on relying on our teams weakneeses really was his biggest downfall.
As a result I am very confident when we all look back on this Al Davis will prove this was the right decision. In getting rid of Cable we'll see instant improvement on gameday because whoever comes in here is taking over a very talented team. As long as he has a little bit of comon sense and rely's on our strengths and hides our weaknesses we will win more games then we lose.
Either make Hue the HC or bring in Harbaugh and keep Hue at OC for continuity. Add a good Tackle and vet WR and we may even compete for a Super Bowl next year...GO RAIDERS!!!

I'd want to see the next move or two before really celebrating. Cable was half oaf but a very tough oaf

Truer words were ne’er spoken:

Spit AD's balls out for just a second.
If you think anybody but Al Davis was pushing for DHB to still be a major factor, you’ve been hitting the pipe. As far as Henderson goes, he went to the pine more and more as the season progressed. Beyond that, I have serious doubts Al Davis came up with this draft plan. In fact, I think the reason Cable’s leaving is because he locked AD in a closet on draft day. Notice the insanely fast wideout and freakishly athletic but unpolished tackle were picked up in the later rounds, while 3 starters were the first three picks. I’ll save my praise based on results. I think this was a foolish move.
Nice one!
You took the words right out of my mouth. Who the fuck else but Al Davis the crypt keeper himself has been the lone advocate of DHB? If Bill Cowher was HC or Bill Parcells were the HC they would also be stuck with…………… you guessed it DuHB. The WR that makes $50k for every yard he receives OR $100k for every ball he drops that hits him in the hands.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

You'll save your praise for later but dish out the scrutiny now...
Sounds fair.

Fair,
Is where you go on rides, eat cotton candy, and step in horse poop. Life is seldom fair. In my experience scrutiny comes with risky moves. Praise doesn’t show up unless they pay off. This move is sketchy, and the reward seems to stand on shaky ground.

Yes, Cable stuck with his O-linemen too long
but DHB is Al’s fault and was “his” as was JaPurpleDrinkus
I don’t think anyone here thought Cable was a great coach, but he did give us stability, continuity and direction. He changed the losing culture that had long ruled the locker room.
That, from an outsiders view, gave the Raiders the look of a team headed in the right direction, a team that needed just a few more players to really take the next step into the playoffs.
Those outsiders I’m talking about would be talented free agents, that for years avoided the Raiders because of instability, lack of continuity and direction. If I’m a free agent, I take one look at us and say, uh oh there they go again, the dysfunctional Raiders are back, better stay away.
JUST DOMINATE BABY !!!
What EVER
Whatever!! It’s not like I haven’t been disapointed by Al’s decisions before. Like the most recent F. up. Not the last 7yrs. of not being able to be proud I’m a Raider fan. But the dumbest move Al’s done since I’ve been a Raider fan.
He traded Chucky Gruden for a couple of draft picks and some cash. WTF was that move. It was a super bowl lost and the last time I was able to be a proud Raider fan. So here we are again. What would be so hard to keep the team in tact for one year? Well it isn’t so Mr. Davis had better get the best F.ing coach out there to make me watch.

i agree man
cable just isnt a head coach, doesnt come up with competitive strategies, he doesnt intimidate the opposition, he isnt a head coach…..now my praises would go to Al Davis only if the next 2-3 moves peice together something good, until then im sitting on the edge of my seat. this can either be a good or bad thing for us
Success is not measuredby what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds...

I trust Al Davis will find the right man...
Hue might prove to be a great head coach and in a few years this may end up turning out to be the move that defined Oakland back into the postseason and beyond mediocrity!
Every man for himself...
why and how would you trust him he fires everyone of the coaches he hired Art Shell, Joe Bungells, Norvell, Cable guy, Callahan, Kiffin, no one else has ever hired any of these guys as NFL head coaches doesn’t that alone say something? I dont count Norv in this because he blows AJ Smith for a living. The last coach to take us to the superbowl was fired/traded the year before we got there and then beat us in the game the ultimate genius move. Look in the mirror fellow Raider fan Al does far more damage than good regardless of the reasons for his actions. our record over the last ten years is soley on the shoulders of management or mismanagement. Im a lifelong fan I aint changing teams no matter how bad it gets and never will I’m just not drinking the Kool Aid cause Al says so

I was hearing Cable was dumping a lot of Davis' game plans already drawn out.
Also he was pissed Cable would kind of be like ok ok and agree with his decisions and turn around and do things his way. Sound familiar anyone? While I am not a Cable fan, I am a fan of continuity and team chemistry. Al Davis has no idea what it takes to win in the new millineum NFL and this team won in spite of his stink being up in everything Oakland Raider.

You and everyone else can only speculate what goes on behind the always closed doors of the RRRAIDERS front office. I hear you can get a good look at a steak by cramming your head up a bulls ass, but I’ll take the butcher’s word for it.

If it's true.........
good. The 70’s style football seems to be a fan of is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy long gone. To be honest I think Hue had total control of the offense BUT as for the defense play calling. Could be a mix of it.

Now that's an ass chewing
+1
Hue needs his ass chewed, too. Screw that guy. He teased us with a high powered offense. And then sent crap on the field. I wonder if he would do that as a head coach. Or was he trying to make someone else look bad… If that’s the case, we’re the one’s who suffered just so he could put his name on it. We will start winning when everyone starts doing their f’n job and quit trying to be the great Tesla or Einstein or even Edison. It’s not science. Stick with what works.
