The Coaching Carousel Continues in the Bay!

As all of us have heard, read and/or seen by now, Tom Cable is unfortunately gone. There have been many blogs, posts and articles around the web speculating over who will take over as Head Coach. As there are many coaching changes this year in the works and some on the horizon, it be interesting to see who gets the job. The Raiders have publicly denied that Hue Jackson will be the head coach, but we all know how that goes. I want to weigh in on some possibilities and also rule some out.

Lets look at available candidates:

Sports Analysts / Former Coaches

  1. Jon "Chucky" Gruden
  2. Bill Cowher
  3. Steve Mariucci

Recently Fired Coaches / Coaches on the Hot Seat

  1. Mike Singletary (fired from San Fran)
  2. Josh McDaniels (fired from Denver)
  3. Jeff Fisher (hot seat in Tennessee)
  4. Tony Sparano (hot hot seat in Miami)
  5. Eric Mangini (fired from Cleveland)
  6. Steve Spagnolo (hot seat in St. Louis)
  7. Wade Phillips (fired from Dallas)
  8. Jon Fox (fired from Carolina)
  9. Brad Childress (fired from Vikings)
  10. Tom Coughlin (hot seat in New York)

NFL Coordinators

  1. Hue Jackson (Oakland OC)
  2. Jason Garrett (Dallas OC & Interim HC)

College Coaches

  1. Jim Harbaugh (Standford HC)

As for the Raiders, we can automatically rule out, Gruden (Al would never take him back), Cowher (he would never Coach for Al Davis), Josh Mc Daniels (Al wont take Denver's scraps), Mike Singletary (Al Davis wants an Offensive minded HC). So even though Hue Jackson seems like an obvious choice, there are actually many more possibilities than we think. There could also be more than this, but these are the ones I came up with.
