This is my first post to the site but I am a long time reader. I love the offseason and the draft almost as much as the regular season and as a result do a mock draft every few weeks for the Raiders. I thought I would just throw this one up to see what you guys thought. Enjoy
First off this mock is based on the assumption that the Raiders sign Logan Mankins. A bit presumptious I know but he is the best lineman available and even Al should be able to see that Cooper Carlisle is not the answer. He is at the top of my FA wish list.
I wish with this pick the Raiders could pick up Stefen Wisniewski from PENN State or even Mike Pouncey from Florida but I doubt that either of them will be around by the time the Raiders pick. They could also go the Linebacker route but there are a lot of good LB’s in the draft this year and this gives the Raiders the chance to land a huge player. Kyle Rudolph is the top TE in the draft who could fit in very well with the Raiders. He has incredible speed for his size and great hands. He was on the way to a career season this year until he an injury shut him down. We need another TE across from Zach Miller who can actually contribute on offensive (sorry Brandon Myers). With him in our offense I envision running plenty of two TE sets, kind of like how the Patriost have done with Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski . Teams would respect and fear the combo of Zach Miller and Kyle Rudolph.
3rd Round 81st Pick Kris O'Dowd C USC 6-5 315
With only Samson Satele really at Center we could use another Center on our roster. Kris O’Dowd would push Satele for the starting job immediately which is a win-win situation for us. He was originally a late first round early second round consideration had he declared last year. He has been hampered by this year which has dropped his stock which is all the more reason to draft him now. He has extensive experience starting in a pro-style offense and has great size. He will be a bona fide star in this league barring injury and is the highest ranked player on my wish list.
4th Round 112th Pick Dontay Moch ROLB Nevada 6-1 245
I think most people agree that Quentin Groves will need to be replaced and I think Dontay Moch is the guy to do it. He has incredible speed for a LB and that could really cause havoc in the back field. He is a bit small for a 4-3 OLB but if he bulks up he could fit in real nicely in our scheme. We would finally be able to cover TE’s running those infuriating drag routes. He is from a big-time program as well which I think people tend to underrate.
5th Round Pick 145th Tandon Doss WR Indiana 6-3 200
Tandon Doss might seem like a confusing pick here as he is a bit of an unknown to most people but as a current student at Indiana University let me tell you this guy is one of the best YAC guys I have ever seen. The only way to describe him is playmaker. On every play this guy will break two or three tackles and always gets extra yardage. I have seen him play in person probably 13 or 14 times and even against the top teams in the Big 10 this guy makes plays. He is nothing spectacular when it comes to speed but he has great hands and is solid when running routes. He also has returned punts and kicks for several years which just adds to his versatility. I really think this guy could be something special at the next level. A cool extra note is that he is a huge Raiders fan and said that the Raiders are his first choice. It's kind of hard to find good clips of him so I'll just throw in this newsclip of him.
6th round pick 176th Overall Derek Hall OT Stanford 6-5 305
Not a whole lot of info is out there about this guy but when i watched him the other night during Stanford's bowl game I came away very impressed. He seemed to have solid everything, I couldn't point out anything that he was doing wrong. He could probably be better in some areas sure but he was very impressive nonetheless. The entire Stanford line gave up only 5 sacks on the whole year so he has been doing something right it seems. He also has been clocked at a near 5 second 40 which means Al will love him.
7th Round 209th pick Tyrod Taylor QB Virginia Tech 6-1 215
This last pick is just kind of a boom or bust scenario. Tyrod Taylor is an exciting talent that could become a useful starting QB in the NFL with the right guidance and leadership. I am also banking on the fact that Hue Jackson will still be around if not the head coach which I feel could help Tyrod develop immensely.
I think this would be a solid draft for the Raiders. Let me know what you guys think
