Raiders 2011 Draft Wish List

So, with the majority of the media and some fans denouncing the Oakland Raiders decision to let Tom Cable go,  I've been spending sometime looking at Hue Jackson and reflecting on the explosive offense he's brought back to Oakland. Granted, Cable did bring the team together in a way we haven't seen in sometime but I see Jackson as being the most capable person of leading the Raiders to potential playoff contention in 2011, and the beginning of a new era for the Raiders. From what I've gathered, Jackson and Davis share the same ideology regarding the Raiders past 8-8 season and while the change at HC has upset some veteran players in the locker room, I think it's important to realize that without Jackson we wouldn't have seen the boost in offense and overall camaraderie that comes with winning games as a team. With Lechler being one of the big names vocally distraught about Cable, losing him would definitely alter our team but it wouldn't by any means render us helpless. Come next season we'll be facing an onslaught of teams that are currently in the 2010 playoffs, they include the Patriots, Bears, Jets, Chiefs and Packers. It's no shock to us die hards' that our seasons aren't getting any easier and I believe there's no better time for the Raiders then right now to start making changes and that begins with having another successful draft. So while it's fresh in my mind, who do you think the Raiders will bring to Oakland in 2011? These following players are my "current" Silver & Black Draft Wish-list; in no particular order, and completely going off the hunch that Davis trades up for additional picks in the earlier rounds.

Nick Fairley may be the #1 pick in the draft now that Luck is going back to school.

Ras-I Dowling may be available when we pick 48th.

Ras-I Dowling (CB, Virginia) is an awesome player and I had him in mind but gone before we get a chance at him. With Luck bowing out of the draft this year I would’ve thought Locker’s stock would be impossible to contend with, more so than Fairley. Locker’s fearless mobility and strong arm are definitely things to think about but I’d say if Dowling and Fairley are gone Cameron Jordan looks like a beast, then again so do a lot of these OL’s.

Cam Heyward

seems to fit the mold of DLs we’d target. He can play anywhere along the DL and has a good motor…

we never retreat we always ATTACK!!!

Cam Heyward is the type of player that will be garnering heavy interest in the bottom of the first.

He can go to a lot of the teams playing 3-4s like Pitt, the Jets and the Pats.

The Steelers will take an offensive lineman

Rumor is they like Mike Pouncey, brother of their current center Maurkice Pouncey. Anyone who saw them together at Florida knows they work extremely well together.

I want someone like Marvin Austin, JJ Watt, or Nate Solder in the 2nd. Heyward is great but he probably won’t be available.

Don't believe everything you hear.

Besides they already showed their hand by saying they’re taking Pouncey. The Steelers other than Ziggy Hood are old farts along the D-line. They need to get young and D-line is one of the strongest positions in this year’s draft. JJ Watt is getting a lot of play and may go before Cam Heyward as a matter of fact. Also I think if Solder is there and Costanzo, Wisniewski, Pouncey, or Carimi aren’t Oakland has to draft him.

Pitts DL didn't look so old last November

Our average OL?

I’ll take 11 players with heart on the field over 11 guys with just talent. Talent is fleeting, it goes away over time. Heart is what drives you to be better. To push yourself beyond what you think your capabilities are. To show us that when you strive, all things are possible.- SMP

However you rate them

they got run over by a supposedly “old d-line” according to TAW. Nobody elses d-line ran over us like that what ever their age.

They have a very good DL, and they also blitz A LOT

with their talented LB core. Probably the best core in football.

My wishlist for each pick we have

Round 2 OT DeMarcus Love Arkansas
Round 3 C Kris O’Dowd USC
Round 4 OLB Dontay Moch Nevada
Round 5 FS Tejay Johnson TCU
Round 6 RB Darrick Locke UK
Round 7 TE Virgil Green Nevada

Free agency
Re-sign all our key guys like Seymour, Miller, Huff, and hopefully Bush and Gallery. I fully expect that we’ll re-sign the first 3, but if we don’t keep Gallery, then we should replace him in free agency with someone better. At Cb we should sign Johnathan Joseph, and we should also try and get a #1 type receiver.

I'd like to see us

I think the Niewsk is gonna get snaked before we can snag him.
