Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

I wish we still had Gradkowski

Everybody that has seen the first five games of our beloved Raiders' season knows that this year's incarnation of the team has two fatal flaws: linebackers and quarterback. While a subpar linebacker corps is a problem that can be schemed around, especially with our D-line, the awful play of Jason Campbell cannot. If we still had Bruce Gradkowski as our starter, there is no way we wouldn't be undefeated right now.

From intangibles to tangibles, Gradkowski is superior to Campbell in every category except maybe height and ability to throw inaccurate deep balls. Gradkowski's QB rating this season is a very solid 96.5, as compared to Campbell's decidedly mediocre rating of 84.3. Interceptions? None for Gradkowski. And we all know what Campbell has done already in that department. Just with that alone, if we are starting Gradkowski we beat the Patriots. And there would have been no effect on the games we won already. And in the Buffalo game, the real reason we lost was because of poor offensive execution in the second half. Yes, the defense obviously fell apart, but if we had Gradkowski we would have been able to play better ball-control offense, not leaving the Bills enough time to score the 5 touchdowns it took them to beat us.

So there you have it. If we still had Bruce Gradkowski as our starter we would be 5-0. Here's hoping Campbell can find a way to turn it around before it's too late. Keep the faith and go Raiders!

lets take 12 pas attempts and extrapolate them over a whole season

campbell’s the better QB, that’s why he was starting over him to begin with… and he’s also had some pretty damn good games… the aforementioned bills game being one of them…

and let’s be honest… we aren’t in a position to compete with the Patriots atm… we have a strong team with a lackluster secondary… you can’t beat the best QB in the league (without a neck injury) with a lackluster secondary… also, some of the interceptions were tipped balls off the receivers’ hands…

so no… I’m not sad we don’t have Gradkowski… sucked to see him go, but he wouldn’t have had a snap yet if he had stayed…

Bo knows the Chiefs can suck it...

If Gradkowski was our QB

he would be completing 41% of his passes.I can use stats from a guy who has thrown the ball 12 times this season too.Grad throws costly INTs and is injury prone.Hes kinda like tebow, he fires the team up, but he just not that good.

RIP Al Davis

by RyanTheRaider on Oct 15, 2011 12:22 PM PDT reply actions

tebow isnt injury prone either...

so even if grad was still here, campbell would still be starting and playing anyways….grad looked great because of who he originally replaced….(the duece) so anything after him looks great, anything more then lethargic the team feed off. Do I wish campbell scrambled a lil more, yup. But overall, he’s done what he’s asked. Manage the game. He’s done that, and even starting to build the chemistry necessary with out WRs to have a passing game. He might not throw for 4,000 or 5,000 yards, but he will probably end it with 3,000 maybe 3,500. At the very least more then grad….nothing against him, just a lil over hyped then he should be. A very poor man’s phillip rivers maybe…

That's the thing

Gradkowski is a better game manager than Campbell is too. He would be doing all the things you stated and then some. He would be keeping more drives alive (and in turn keeping the offense on the field more) and getting the most out of everybody else on the offense by inspiring them to play harder. And as much as it pains me to say it, I’d rather have a poor man’s Rivers than a poor man’s Joe Flacco which is what we have in Campbell.

I meant undefeated this year

And last year was a different team, with a much different offense. With this year’s team, there is no doubt he would have them either 4-1 or 5-0. And yes Campbell is 9-6 but he should be at least 11-3 if not better.

This Is A Dumb Post

This is how Tebow got his starting job in Denver. When delusional fans just want to see their QB fail because they actually believe someone who is average can take us to a undefeated season. Support the guy, he has won us some big games, he is a the Raiders QB, and you wish Grad was here based off JC’s play? Ok JC has made some terrible plays, but grad hasn’t when he was playing for the Raiders? Your putting Grad where he doesn’t belong in the NFL, your saying he would have given us a better shot against the Patriots? Really? Dude seriously, if you wished Grad was so good, like Tom Brady good because your saying he would have beaten the Pats. Obviously the only way to beat the Pats is outscore Brady. Be real man, this is just dumb.

I don’t understand why you would rather have gradkowski then JC. Doesn’t make no sense, JC has played way better then Gradkoswki this year. Gradkowski would be a better choice then Boller but to be a starter, i don’t think so. To be undefeated right now with Gradkowski? Are you serious? What does JC have to do? throw for 1 billion yards then he would be considered good. JC manages the game well, thats how the raiders win, they keep the opposing team off the field and we win with TOP. With Gradkowski we are a gun slinging team without a run game. Gradkowski is a backup kind of guy, he can make plays for you but he isn’t the best option when you are down 14 points.

This maybe the worst post ever

Bruce is backing up a 2nd round rookie QB on the Bengals. That alone proves Bruce can’t start anywhere in the NFL. I loved how you hide the stats like saying a 91 qb rating . He went 5 for 12 92 yards an a touchdown. You forgot to say that 41 of those yards came on a busted play. Bruce is a gunslinger with a sling shot for an arm

Packers and Pats, I wouldn't argue ...

But I don’t put any of the rest of those QB’s as “far superior” to Campbell. Are they ‘better’? Yes. So is Phyllis, and Matt Ryan, and Joe Flacco, and …

But JC is what we got for now, and Grad showed last year in the Miami game that he is NOT the answer, plus he’s gone anyways and he ain’t coming back.

So basically, this whole thread is pretty lame as a discussion point. If you wanna bring up better QB options that are actually POSSIBLE at this point in time, fine. But the whole Grad v. JC discussion is fuckin’ pointless.

Here are better quarterbacks than Campbell in my opinion, in no particular order:

Brady
Rodgers
Stafford
Rivers
Roethlisberger
Flacco
Cutler (stats look bad but he is a victim of his system)
Brees
Fitzpatrick
Vick
Ryan
Newton

All these guys are better than Campbell is right now. So I wouldn’t consider Campbell to be top third.

by resident troll on Oct 15, 2011 4:14 PM PDT up reply actions

the quarterbacks better than Gradkowski

All the other QBs. Let’s be honest here for a dang second. If Bruce was the Raiders starter we wouldn’t be 5-0, we wouldn’t be 3-2. At best we might be 2-3. Campbell has a career QBR of 82.8 while Bruce’s is 66.5. Bruce has more career interceptions than touchdowns and only had one year, well two if you count this year, where he had more TDs than INTs. Campbell has 25 more career TDs than INTs and never had a year where he had more INTs than TDs. Career completion percentage goes to Campbell also. 60.8 for JC and 53 for Bruce. Even this year, JC’s completion percentage is better with a 60.3 while Bruce’s is 47.1.

If Bruce is so good, then why didn’t he beat out a rookie to be the Bengals’ starting QB. As far as a good game manager, if closing your eyes and heaving the ball down the field is good game managing then oh well.

Raiders Passing game rated 22nd.

Campbell sucks. He never wins. He manages not to lose. Look at the numbers. If you have a qb that always dumps off short passes and the offense has a tendency to have three and out. The defense will wear down and end up collapsing. Look at what Mcnabb is doing to the Vikings. We should of killed the browns. Special teams scored two of the touchdowns. The Browns scored off Campbell’s fumble. I hope I never see JC in a Raiders uniform again!!!!!!!!

Campbell isn't lighting up the world but...

the other choices in your poll either inspire no confidence or have already proven to be lesser than Campbell, Gradkowski included. I had to vote Campbell.
I was a big Grad fan and supported him last year, but he proved to take to many chances and over estimate the power of his own arm he ended up injured and threw too many picks.
As a leader he is probably a better motivator of men than JC, but Campbell handles the offense better and is now in his second year running this offense and is improving greatly. He is by no means perfect, but he’ll do. Besides changing QB’s all the time just screws up what chemistry the offense has going and the reason we lost the games we lost was not Jason Campbell is was a defense that can’t cover the short, quick hitter underneath.

Coming from the guy that rants about how we can't win with man coverage.

Michael me and you seem to disagree a lot but I always read what you have to say. I’m sure you don’t care but just saying. I’ve never seen a QB give the pats D a pick in the redzone. Great blocking all day to throw and just gave it away. I know it was one throw but when we need the win I haven’t seen him step up for the game winner. If he hits that pass to Moore at the end and puts it away. Yes there are 5 QBs that are great but what about the young rising ones? I want to have a Bradford, Stafford, Freeman, Ryan, Flacco, or even a Newton. When we drafted a QB it was the wrong year to. Now that we have our headcoach he needs his franchise QB to mold into a great one. We have the staff, and the playmakers we’re just missing a few peices on defense and a young QB with the sky as the limit talent.

I could of thrown that pass.

He got the ball back and had a chance to win it for us. To be clutch. To be the leader. No one says Campbell and the Raiders. It’s McFadden or Seymour. Campbell doesn’t throw picks but when he does they aren’t even picks where the defense made a play they are stupid should never of been thrown picks. He doesn’t trust his receivers which I think are getting better by the week. Until he shows he can be clutch and get the 1st when we need it I think we should be looking at QBs on saturdays.

no you couldnt have.It was a perfectly thrown ball, on the run, across his body. What about that deep pass to Moore in Buffalo to give us the lead late in the 4th? That would have been the game winner if the defense could have gotten a stop.Gradkowski throws more ints then Campbell.

Also the KC game last year ...

Tossed pretty much the game-winner to Ford (twice, actually), even if they weren’t scoring throws, they were HIGH pressure, basically game-winning throws. So it’s not like he can’t function under pressure and can’t win games for us. He’s done so.

Sure I would’ve liked to see the offense manage a first down to close out the game in TX last week, but I’ve seen that exact thing happen a 1000 times to other teams besides us. Defense needs the stop to get the ball back to the offense, and they end up getting it rather than the O of the team that’s ahead picking up any first downs to close out the game.

Mark my words, TX is for real this year. Although losing their version of Seymour for the season is really gonna hurt them, and they need AJ back on the field. But that is a damn good team

We have the #2 rushing O

How high do you expect the pass O to be rated when we run it the most and throw it the 5th lowest amount of times per game.

Campbell is playing well enough

first winning record after 5 games since 02 with 3 winnable games at home coming up we could be in much worse places.

by Trho14 on Oct 15, 2011 6:21 PM PDT reply actions

But we could be much better too!

If Gradkowski was starting there’s no way our record wouldn’t be better.

Did you watch

any of the games bruce played in last year. Yeah people were excited when he first came in but when most folks started to watch him more carefully, they realized that he wasn’t that good. If he was any good, don’t you think the Raiders would have made him the starter. If he was any good, he would be the starter over Dalton. Campbell is the better QB. Period.

No not even

More TO’s and less efficiency = less points = less wins

Seriously it was much better around here without you and your Campbell hating,

Just as it was last year after you left, what was that you said something like, “This is the best day of my life” when Gradkowski was named the starter. How did that decision work out? Grad showed off his pop gun arm, The Raiders lost, didn’t make the playoffs and a fat oaf lost his job.

The funniest thing about this post is that you are comparing stats from this season

Bruce has played ONE game and was 5 for 12 with a TD and 92 Yards and somehow you think that translates to him being a QB that would have out performed JC and lead us to 5-0, NO SHIT he has thrown less INT’s its pretty hard to throw INT’s from the BENCH.

I LOVED Bruce when he was here and for that half a season when he took over for J-Russ he was special especially that Pitt game but the guy has lost his job 3 times in the last two years. JC beat him out in training camp then won the job again during the season and Bruce lost his job to the Rookie this year.

I am a huge Bruce fan but the whole premise of the argument is ludicrous.

Such BS

JC has a top 10 QBr , a great game manager and is very efficient and takes care of the ball. Bruce was a reckless wanna be gun slinger with no accuracy . JC wins, Bruce doesnt .

I won't respond about Jason's game management or squandering of TOs but will say this about your comparision ...

I’ve never seen Bruce melt down and throw directly to a white jersey when wearing the home Black. Moreover, Bruce made plays and they worked for us until he wrecked his shoulder against Houston … the aftermath is well know and unfortunate.

grads did throw a lot more picks than Campbell ...

Which is a pretty important stat when you get down to it.

Just sayin’

Peyton Manning throws more picks then Freemen.

Big Ben throws more picks then Alex Smith. Yet Manning and Ben have rings. Favre threw a shit ton of picks his whole career. Somebody in my last post pointed out to me that the snake threw 3 picks a game and we still won. Ok Campbell doesn’t throw picks but sure as hell goes 3 and out a lot.

WHY ARE YOU DOWNPLAYING GRADKOWSKI'S IMPACT?

HE IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TURNAROUND OF THE OFFENSE LAST YEAR AS MUCH AS ANY OF THE PLAYERS. HIM AND HUE.

i do think

that we should have kept garcia (remember we had him?). i mean yea he was up there in age, but come on he could have outplayed and outscrapped doc b with one arm. and isnt that why we liked him in the first place? he was scrappy and fiery and he got the team rowled up and never quit on a play… and whats all this about us being short on db’s? i swear not too long ago we had lito sheppard on board, what happened to that?

by S.D. Raider on Oct 16, 2011 6:19 AM PDT reply actions

I totally wanted to keep Jeff ...

I do actually know the guy, I’ve played tennis with him and went out partying with him a couple times … a friend of a friend from Gilroy, basically.

I wished we’d benched Jamarcus in favor of Garcia that year we brought him in, probably woulda had a better season but there was no way Al was going for that, and Jeff wanted to start … so Al let him go to try to find himself a starting job. Which I don’t think he did if memory serves. I found that pretty astounding because he’d led the Eagles and the Bucs to the playoffs in the previous two seasons if I’m remembering history correctly.

Anyway, pretty sure that Jeff is actually still playing in some football league, dunno if it’s Arena or what … At his current age of like 41 I don’t think he’d be a good option for this team except as a 3rd stringer, and I think he’d rather be playing and be a ‘star’ in some other league than warm the bench in the NFL. He ain’t got many more years of playing left, and I know that guy LOVES to play football.

The bigger question is...

Are those 8 people who voted for JaWalrus actually serious about rather having him be our starter right now over Campbell? Or were they just trying to be funny? Hopefully it’s the latter.

Keeping things in perspective

and an eye on the big picture:

  1. The Raiders are more solid at QB than they have been in years, even considering Campbell’s limitations.
  1. Grad had his chance, couldn’t do it. In any event, he’s gone now, back up to a rookie QB, and would be 3rd on the depth chart if Carson Palmer wasn’t on sabbatical.
  1. Blanket comments like “Jason Campbell sucks!” don’t serve a lot of purpose. You got a problem with him, at least specify areas he’s weak in AND suggest how he might improve, OR figure who we could get that’s better and how we could get him.
  1. Resident troll is a troll, and probably is enjoying himself to no end pushing people’s buttons. Some people take delight in strange things. Go figure.

by rightnasty on Oct 16, 2011 11:43 AM PDT reply actions

To say Bruce should be the starter isn't accurate even though Bruce won the job twice and lost it both times to injury.

Campbell played well enough at the end of last year to keep the job. That doesn’t mean he is our franchise QB. He has yet to prove anything. He has no confidence, no leadership, and kind of inconsistent. I think some of you fans are tired of the rump roast at the QB position and are willing to settle for the 6 ounce sirloin with fat on it then trying to get that filet franchise guy.

I think we would all love an upgrade at QB

but there are no options to upgrade at the moment. If we could get a better QB than Campbell next off season im all for it.

Need a new QB

If we get a top tear QB we are championship material. If we keep taking guys like JC. We should go after McNabb.
