Soon as I saw Jason struggling to get up, my first reaction was, "Fuck."
JC is a big unit and a tough guy. If he was struggling then he was clearly hurt pretty badly. As we now know, he's broken his collarbone and is probably out for the rest of the regular season.
Which means that Kyle Boller is our starting QB. Yes.
While I'm not totally opposed to this if it means we get more camera time on his wife, the fact is that he's a walking turnover with an arm. The thought of having to rely on him to get us to the playoffs makes me queasy.
That said, as long as he's playing for us I'm happy to cut my vodka with Kool-Aid and say he's the white Jim Plunkett. (Gotta admit, there are a few certain similarities to the situation Plunkett came into that Boller is in now). But either way, we need to make a move at QB because Terrelle Pryor isn't even ready to be a backup this season.
So what are our options? Brett Favre isn't one (even though, God forbid, I wouldn't actually mind that happening) and neither is Carson Palmer. I'm not willing to give up a kings ransom for one season and I know Hue and co won't be either.
David Garrard is the first name that comes to mind. We know he can be an NFL starter, and he'll probably come to us knowing he can start or at least fight for the starting position with Boller. That's a bonus since he's said he doesn't want to be a backup.
Kyle Orton is another guy who I'd like to try get - he'll come cheap (even to a division rival) and you know he'll be ready to destroy Denver first game after the bye week. You have to imagine part of the reason he's sucked this year would be having Jesus Elway H. Tebow being invoked everywhere he looks. That can't be good for a guy's confidence.
We could also bring back Trent Edwards. He's probably not a substantial upgrade on Boller, but he knows the offense and can manage a game which is about all we really need from a QB.
Other options are Brodie Croyle, Marc Bulger, Colt Brennan...either way we'll probably be inviting a few guys for try-outs this and next week.
