I just finished doing my weekly rant-masquerading-as-a-column post over at AP, and I just wanted to come over here and make a few points that I made in that post, as well as get the overall vibe here at S & B.
First of all, let me say congratulations on landing Palmer. While I may not agree with the steep price paid, I applaud the bold action taken. With Campbell down (and arguably even with Campbell healthy) you guys had a rather gaping hole at QB. And one that prevents your offense from really taking advantage of a talented group of WRs.
Personally, I think Palmer gets a bit of a bum rap (as I've been arguing on AP all day, when perhaps I should've been paying attention in class... but I digress). Despite the widely held view that he's washed up, he's still thrown for roughly 4,000 yards the last couple of years with over 25 TDs each year, all the while completing 61+ percent of his throws.
Additionally, one area he is without a doubt superior to Campbell is his ability to throw the deep ball. I cringe (and you no doubt smile) at the idea of a decent deep-ball QB with your WR corps.
Throw in the fact that Palmer is almost certainly going to be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder, and I'm concerned. At the very least, I see you guys from having moved from a subpar QB who while not a devastating weakness was hardly a strength, to a guy who at WORST is an above average QB. Which makes your offense pretty much complete.
If you were to tell me the feeling of Raider Nation, what would it be? Too much given up? Smart move made to win now? I should screw off, being a Chiefs fan?
