Exhibit (DH)B
..or Steve Corkran gets his chops busted in chat. Today was Inside the Oakland Raiders weekly chat session, and in it people got on Corkran's case for his opinion of Darrius Heyward-Bey. It's the not the first time. I'd seen other people get on Jerry McDonald about what they believed were negative comments towards McFadden. But today it was a little more pronounced than usual.
Despite DHB having his best season, Corkran says:
"I still of am the belief that Heyward-Bey is Oakland's sixth-best receiver talent-wise."
Seems strange doesn't it with as reliable as he's been this year, and with the other receivers showing up some games and disappearing others. Granted injuries play a part. But it seems a harsh label to put on somebody who's been our go-to guy this year.
He goes on to say:
"Darrius Heyward-Bey is Oakland's most-productive receiver right now, no doubt. Not sure why other receivers aren't getting as many balls thrown their way as Heyward-Bey."
Could it be that DHB is getting open when other receivers are not?
To this, a person in chat responded: "sounds like you were wrong about DHB like many but you won't admit it..."
Corkran denied having a problem admitting he was wrong, instead simply saying that he was firm in his beliefs.
"6th best receiver? Why so stubborn?" somebody else wanted to know
It was pretty clear a bunch of people were not going to let this go. And I was curious myself.
"Hey, I like Heyward-Bey as a person. I just am pointing out how I feel based on what I see in practice and games. He is closing the gap and getting better all the time. He's just not a natural football player, " was Corkran's response.
"Natural receiver or not, DHBs by far leading our team in stats... is that not how we base who is best??" another poster asked.
"He should have the best stats, though, given he starts and gets far and away more passes thrown his way," Corkran replied.
By now some of the people are just plain outraged:
"Come clean and tell us why you hate DHB so much.....need to be right instead of AL?"
"I do not hate him at all. Just pointing out that the Raiders should be getting a heck of a lot more from a guy who was the No. 7 pick in the 2009 NFL draft. To see what I'm talking about, go check out the Steelers' Mike Wallace, from the same draft, and see his stats. He has six straight games now in which he has caught a pass for 40 yards or more," Corkran answered.
And it goes on from there.
Okay, fair enough, Steve. DHB is probably not going to the Pro Bowl and has been outplayed by Mike Wallace, Hakeem Nicks and Jeremy Maclin from the same draft. But that wasn't the original point. The original point was Corkran saying that DHB is the worst wide receiver the Raiders have. Still seems awfully harsh to me, so what do you say?

Talent wise 6th best receiver?? Is this guy serious??
He’s 6’2, runs a 4.3 40 time, and he’s such a load to tackle. IMO, DHB ranks up there with the top of the receivers in the NFL talent wise
Clippers own staples center!!!
that would be athleticism not talent
Hes runs great routes, consistently gets open and is starting to go after the ball much more aggressively. he still needs to work on his hands. he catches the ball with his body to much but so did cliff branch

"running great routes"... Please shut up bro. Running routes is more realistic.
DHB is now actually running routes more smoothly or how they are designed. He is being more agressive now too, but can he do this consistently? I notice sometimes that when running his routes he looks robotic, but he can do some moves and has speed to his advantage.
The RaiderLaker
Plus, what I said is true, he is just developing his *football* talent. Took him 3 seasons.
But we can’t say fully yet, he has to do so frequently and not drop easy balls, and have elite stats to live up to being a high ass pick and getting paid a lot. (Albatross contract to acquire other players.)
Don’t hate DHB, just hate the situation. He needs to step up on TD’s and yards anyways, CP is a baller and isn’t afraid to gun that shit, we’ll see how good DHB is with a gunslinging QB like Palmer.

Cork didn't use an objective standard but relied on DHB's draft position / rookie expectations - this is not objective

right now DHB is r best WR.
DHB was drafted on pure athletism with a lot of raw talent. He came on to the raiders with no experience proven Wrs to help him out. So to compare to mike wallace that had Hines Ward and accurate QB is not comparable to wut he had here with #2 and last yrs QB courasell. So everything that DHB has improve on has been all him. If Carsn can get the timing down with him his hardwork will payoff and he will be a true legit WR threat.
Anyone can be a fan of a winning team, supporting your team when its down is what makes you a true honest fan.
I would rate DHB at 3 as of right now.... which i think is good for him considering his improvements!
I think Chaz & D. Moore are much more talented & natural wide recievers….. But when you are performing like the # 1 one on your team who cares what others say…
"THE TIME TO WIN IS NOW" - Coach Hue Jackson
Raider Nation, all hand's on deck or get the hell off the ship! That's the way it's gonna be around here from now on! If a 7th & 5th round pick gets you Aaron Curry (a former 4th overall 1st rd. pick) instead of a couple of crap-shoots a year later, then fine and if dealing away a couple of first rounder's gets you a proven franchise quarterback like Carson Palmer and a legitimate shot at the playoffs, then great, you know why? Because your team is standing behind it's motto & legacy, "Just Win Baby!" and "Commitment to Excellence" instead of "Suck for Luck" and "Give Up". Imagine if you were a fan of a team that actually bought into that!?!
Cheers,

+1 Even Ford sometimes knocks him to 4th when he produces but right now DHB is a rank 3.

Nicely done, Sam! It’s also worth noticing how DHB’s catch rate has improved phenomenally over the previous years.

Chaz has always had sure hands and I'd like to see more of him, especially with Palmer getting up to speed
DHB is currently our best overall receiver but is still suspect catching the deep long ball over the shoulder … hopefully, he’ll have his chance soon enough to change that perception.

Except for one thing
Murphy was more productive in 2 seasons than Chaz was in 4. Granted he’s not looking good now, but Chaz has never been the receiver he could have been. Really don’t know why he’s still on the roster.
If Chaz can't play again Sunday then we really need to consider him expendable. But I'd drop Murphy first because
he’s lost it.

he is on the roster because he is cheap
and has (like always) the potential to be a stud if he can stay healthy and that’s always been the big “if” in Chaz’ case.
This season is Chaz’ last chance with the Raiders, his contract is up and we’ve got a lot of guys looking to take his spot. He’ll have to perform at an elevated level for the rest of the season to get signed back.
"Now I know what your thinking, did he fire six shots or only five. Ive forgotten myself in all this excitement, but being that this is the 44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and could blow your head clean off, you have to ask your question. Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk!"

I chose to leave the chat after that came out...
I rated him number 1 because of his effort and consistency week in and week out. he is the only WR making plays. How many big drops have there been they have been all the other guys… DHB has improved enough to get the action.
Comparing Mike Wallace to DHB with who he has delivering the deep ball is ridiculous.
I’m not a fan of Big Ben but he throws a nice deep ball and DHB has never had a ball to run under because the guy delivering to him cant make that throw.

1,000 Yards
Even is he gets 1,000 yards this year the pundits will say he should have had that every year.
What a dumbass.
DHB is getting passes because he’s showing he can catch passes. Add that to his size and speed, and yes, at the moment he is at LEAST our 2nd-best receiver.
Here are his highlights so far this season

Al Davis the Greatest Raider of all times... You will live forever in the hearts of true Raider fans...RIP
Hue and our QB's (and by extension, Al and the entire Raider Org) have no clue what they're doing
Is probably what this is all about.
Considering that DHB has had several consistent games of numerous passes....
and no other wr has matched his performance, regardless of whether or not he is a natural talent or not he is producing. That alone unquestionable qualifies as No.1 at this time. How can that be argued? Any arguments made to the contrary is all based on speculation and supposition, which are unsound arguments. Sure, he may jump a little when he makes a catch and still has a number of areas he needs to clean up. So what??? Do I care as long as he is making those catches, moving the chains, etc.? Give credit where credit is due
Since he came in
DHB has been all effort all the time. His work is starting to pay off as his ability and perhaps more importantly, belief, is now coming into line with that effort.

Kick their ass and take their stuff!
Even when I used to refer to him as "-" I thought he was our 4th best at worst.
His draft position, slow development, and salary made me want to toss him but if you ask me right now who our best WR is it is unquestionably Darrius Heyward-Bey. Al Davis would be proud. Even when he doesn’t get the ball he runs terrific routes. The beautiful stagger post come back route in which Boller sailed the ball 15 yds over his head against the Stains made me pissed off at such a wasted effort.

Studies show stress can kill you, but don't worry about it.
I would like to bring to everyone's attention
To an article I just wrote on SBN-Bay Area about DHB.
It details his season-by-season improvement. Judging by his catch% and overall numbers, it is my opinion that DHB is not just the best receiver on the Raiders, but is one of the better receivers in the AFC period.
As for Corkran’s comment about Mike Wallace, he has a valid point but omits the fact that the Steelers have had several injuries to their running back corps and have evolved into much more of a passing team, which Roethlisberger’s massive arm is more than adequate to handle. The Raiders are still very much a rushing team and have been throughout DHB’s time as a pro.

Hasn't CP been throwing the ball to him lately while waiting for events to unfurl?
I thought he said Housh, but I could be wrong.
Carson may want Hue to check him out.
DHB
I’ ve been in his corner since he was drafted (remember this?) although I’ve had my doubts from time to time. I think for most of us this was his last season to prove himself and he’s done just that. The guy has worked really hard and has made tremendous progress this year, (27 catches, 434 yards, 16.1 per catch. vs 09+10 combined he had total 35 catches, 490 toal yards, 13.9 ave.) plus he’s big enough now to lay some great blocks. He deserves a lot of credit for character and work ethic not to mention finally catching the ball.
The downside; he’s gonna be a sleeper for a while longer, but soon D’s will start scheming for him.
Girlfriend: So the guy who catches the ball is the catcher, right?
Me: No. They are called wide-receivers. Catchers play baseball.
Girlfriend: Samething.
DHB vs....
Other guys drafted in 2009.
(2011 season stats):
Mike Wallace 800 yrds.
Jeremy Maclin 543 yrds.
DHB 434 yrds.
Percy Harvin 334 yrds.
Micheal Crabtree 263 yrds.
Austin Collie 183 yrds.
Still have a lot of love for Maclin and despite my love for DHB think we sould have picked him. Wallace has Rothesburger who we all know can nail the great deep ball.
Murphy was the steal that year. Hope he can turn it back on or he’s gone.

I have nothing
But respect for Darrius Heyward Bey, the man came in his rookie year getting payed huge bucks while also being our no.1. pick and totally sucked. He saw this, and prepared for the following season working his ass off in practice and he still sucked. And after that he still worked his ass off preparing for his 3rd season and now its starting to pay off, Ive seen 1 or 2 interviews of D.H.B. explaining what he does to prepare. It was something like he catches 150 tennis balls, footballs and etc. Just the man didn’t give up and hate to go off topic but if Jamarcus Russell had the Darrius Heyward Bey mentality, maybe we still have our no.1 overall pick.
I agree completely, DHB has worked extremely hard, and he is still improving which means we have
not seen his full potential yet. His confidence growth has been so large it has become visible. When he’s in the zone he’s got that head bob going like Charles Barkley used to.

He’s showing continued improvement week to week and by Week 7, he’s “the man” and is the plays are being run for him. Patriots game was his break out game and since then, the drops have gone away and his route running is continually improving.
Also, it seems like the ball is often getting thrown late and slightly inaccurately. It’s not being thrown before the break, but often after and many times it’s not out in front, but into the body or the back shoulder. There were lots of yards left on the field b/c of throws.
Watching these, I feel that once Carson and DHB get their timing down (I’m not expecting it necessarily this week), that DHB will become HUGE. Seriously. 8-10/150+ yards is not out of the question if it all gets squared away.
