The game between the Chargers and the Chiefs couldn't have barely ended better. The only thing better could have been a tie and those are so rare that they should never even be asked for. In my opinion that game couldn't have ended much better for the Raiders sake. The game was sloppy with turnovers and penalties galore. Both teams made major errors in the final quarter to force overtime.
Phillip Rivers could be seen on the sideline clearly saying "Worst Night Ever" after KC's field goal sailed through the uprights. Although that could be considered slightly exaggerated I don't know how far it was from the truth. The Chargers had a golden opportunity slip away after they intercepted a Matt Cassell pass on a promising drive late in the 4th quarter. Rivers couldn't handle a snap between him and the center when they were just kneeling down and getting ready for a long feild goal. The Cheifs recovered and forced overtime.
Even in the overtime the Chargers got the ball and were unable to move the ball with success. They punted to the Chiefs, who drove 60+ yards to kick the game winning field goal. As for the Chiefs, there certainly is some signs for concern. They have a bonafide winning streak going, with two straight games being wins against division rivals that are now tied with them for 1st in the AFC West.
Despite that winning streak, I feel like the Raiders gained the most momentum after tonight. We didn't even play and gained a share of the 1st place prize in our division. The team that just beat us was less than convincing with their win over the formally division leading Chargers. The Chargers have an obvious lack of momentum after This tough overtime loss, and the Chiefs looked anything but impressive in their victory.
This was exactly what I hoped for. Neither team making a statement and allowing us to steal a lead in the division. We get to play our weakest divisional oppenent coming up, while San Diego plays Green bay and KC plays Miami. The reasons San Diego playing Green Bay is a good thing for obvious reasons that don't even need to be stated. Miami is a harder opponent then their winless record appears. They have played hard in every game, and KC has had two huge games and are ripe for a let down. I have no question in my mind KC vs Miami is a trap game for KC. Lets hope they get their leg caught! We are now easily in the best position to come out of this week with the division lead. If we do that the rest of the season depends on us performing well. That is a bet I am happy to make right now. I think we just became the smart bet to take the lead in the AFC West after week 9 in the season, and I really hope we take advantage. Winning this game and taking the division lead would go along way towards making Carson Palmer feel comfortable in the Silver and Black!
